Methods: A total of 88 patients were followed from the time of diagnosis until a mean follow-up of 21 years. Anteroposterior pelvic and frog-leg lateral radiographs were obtained at diagnosis and at follow-up of one, five, and 21 years.
Objective: To investigate the microstructure, elemental composition and mechanical properties of polar bear teeth.
Design: Incisors, canines and fourth premolar teeth of two subadult male museum specimens were analysed. Teeth were measured, photographed, embedded in Epoxy resin, sectioned, polished and etched for scanning electron microscope (SEM) imaging, elemental composition and nanomechanical testing analyses.
Loss of Arctic sea ice owing to climate change is predicted to reduce both genetic diversity and gene flow in ice-dependent species, with potentially negative consequences for their long-term viability. Here, we tested for the population-genetic impacts of reduced sea ice cover on the polar bear () sampled across two decades (1995-2016) from the Svalbard Archipelago, Norway, an area that is affected by rapid sea ice loss in the Arctic Barents Sea.
