Background: Surgical reconstruction is the standard treatment for injuries to the posterolateral corner (PLC) of the knee and can be performed using either a fibular-based or combined tibiofibular-based technique. Although some comparative studies have been performed, there is no consensus regarding the reconstructive approach that confers optimal biomechanical properties of the PLC.

Purpose: To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the biomechanical properties of the knee after PLC reconstruction with fibular-based and tibiofibular-based techniques.

Delayed milk ejection (DME) could compromise udder health and milking performance. The objectives of this systematic review and meta-analysis were to (i) explore the current evidence, assess the risk of bias, and identify the knowledge gaps in published studies that investigated the effect of DME on udder health and milking performance in dairy cows, and (ii) quantify the magnitude of the difference in milk yield per milking session (MY), milking duration (MD), and peak milk flow rate (PFR) between cows with and without DME. We performed the current systematic review and meta-analysis according to PRISMA 2020 statement.

The importance of teat canal integrity and its adjacent tissues in the dynamics of IMI is well documented, whereas research on the relationship between teat skin condition and clinical mastitis occurrence is scarce. The objective of this prospective cohort study was to investigate the association of teat skin condition with clinical mastitis occurrence in a closed cohort from a commercial dairy farm with a thrice daily milking schedule in the Northeast United States. We tested the hypothesis that quarters with teats with altered skin condition would have higher odds of clinical mastitis than those with normal skin.

Internal teat sealant products have been used alone or in combination with antibiotic dry cow treatment to prevent new IMI over the dry period in dairy cows. Conversely, knowledge about the efficacy of external teat sealants in the prevention of IMI is scarce. The objective of our study was to investigate the effect of 2 different teat sealants, one internal teat sealant and one external teat sealant, on the (1) risk of new IMI during the dry period, (2) risk of IMI cure, (3) first test day linear SCS, (4) first test day milk yield, (5) incidence of farm-diagnosed clinical mastitis ≤30 DIM, and (6) incidence of culling ≤30 DIM.

Conformational teat traits such as teat-barrel shape and teat-end shape have long been recognized as possible risk factors for elevated somatic cell count and clinical mastitis in dairy cows. However, the association between udder health and these teat traits is still under debate. Our objective with this ambidirectional cohort study was to investigate the relationship between teat shape and the occurrence of clinical mastitis in dairy cows.

Mastitis is among the costliest diseases affecting dairy cows, partly due to the resulting permanent reduction in the quantity and quality of milk produced. Most mastitis cases involve pathogenic organisms entering the cow's mammary gland through the teat canal. The teat has natural defenses against these pathogens that can be disrupted during milk harvesting.

The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effect of supplemental premilking stimulation, provided after manual stimulation, by means of high-frequency pulsation without reduction of the vacuum in the pulsation chamber on milking performance, teat tissue condition, udder health, and well-being in dairy cows. In a randomized controlled trial, Holstein cows (n = 491) from 1 commercial dairy farm with a thrice-daily milking schedule were assigned to treatment and control groups over a 64-d period. Treatments consisted of a maximum of 20 s of pulsation stimulation at a pulsation rate of 100 (SPS100) or 300 (SPS300) cycles per minute and a pulsation ratio of 25:75.

Ultrashort ultraviolet (UV) pulses are pivotal for resolving ultrafast electron dynamics. However, their efficient generation is strongly impeded by material dispersion and two-photon absorption, in particular, if pulse durations around a few tens of femtoseconds or below are targeted. Here, we present a new (to our knowledge) approach to ultrashort UV pulse generation: using the fourth-harmonic generation output of a commercial ytterbium laser system delivering 220 fs UV pulses, we implement a multi-pass cell (MPC) providing 5.

On-farm milk flow meter technology facilitates real-time assessment of individual cow milking observations and could be used to detect milking liner slips during machine milking of dairy cows. Here, we compared the accuracy of on-farm milk flow meters for detecting milking liner slips with that of audible detection and that of a portable vacuum recording system. Compared to audible detection methods, the on-farm milk flow meter facilitated the detection of milking liner slips with moderate accuracy.
