Aim: To assess safety and efficiency of the Cheshire & Merseyside Collaborative, the largest trainee led on-call service in the UK, based on discrepancy rates and time taken to issue reports.

Materials & Methods: All studies reported by the collaborative in a 4-week period were evaluated for discrepancy and the time taken to issue a report. These figures were compared against the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) guidelines and a recent national audit of discrepancy rates.

We report the case of a 43 year old female patient, who underwent a left groin dissection 5 years after her original diagnosis of a 3.8mm Breslow thickness malignant melanoma of her left leg, where the appearance of a post-operative computed tomography (CT) scan caused diagnostic misunderstanding. This case demonstrates the importance of providing the radiologists with accurate information regarding surgical procedures prior to imaging such that misinterpretations of this kind can be avoided.

The effect of hormone withdrawal following hormone-simulated "pregnancy" on "depressive-like behavior" in the Forced Swim Test (FST) was investigated in female Long-Evans rats. Females were randomly assigned to "pregnant", "pregnant"+estradiol benzoate (EB), and control groups. Both the "pregnant" and "pregnant"+EB groups received daily injections of the hormones estradiol and progesterone to simulate the 23-day gestational period in the rat.

Magnetic resonance imaging in the assessment of cervical nodal metastasis in oral squamous cell carcinoma.

Objective: The accurate pre-operative assessment of cervical lymph nodes is a well recognized problem in the management of patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma. Imaging techniques have improved the accuracy of staging but cannot determine if nodal enlargement is due to reactive changes or malignant involvement. We assessed the diagnostic performance of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in detecting metastatic disease within the neck in oral cancer patients.

Crohn's disease, calculi and cancer: a report of two cases.

We describe two patients with long-standing Crohn's disease in which small bowel obstruction occurred secondary to a combination of small bowel enteroliths and stricture formation. In both patients some of the strictures were infiltrated by small bowel adenocarcinoma.
