Introduction: Digital health tools can be beneficial in the care of patients with chronic conditions and have the potential for widespread impact as readily scalable and cost-effective health interventions. However, benefits are often contingent on users sustaining their engagement with these tools over time. Sustained engagement with digital health tools can be challenging, and high rates of attrition from digital interventions are common.

Are protected characteristics associated with mental health care inequalities in the adult UK general population? a cross-sectional study.

This study investigates the association between protected characteristics and inequalities in mental health care in the UK. Multinomial regression was used to model the association between protected characteristics and self-reported distress. Data was extracted from waves 6-10 (2014-2019) of the UK Household Longitudinal Study.

Examining the Case for Palliative Care in Patients With Systemic Sclerosis.

Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a complex, multiorgan disease that causes substantial and progressive symptoms and impairs quality of life. International guidelines recommend early, integrated palliative care for patients with advanced cardiopulmonary disease, such as heart failure and interstitial lung disease, as this care can improve patient, caregiver, and healthcare outcomes. In this article, we examine the potential need and role for palliative care in SSc.

Quantifying the Need for Specialist Palliative Care Management in Patients With Systemic Sclerosis.

Objective: The importance of early integration of palliative care in the management of complex multisystem diseases has been recognized. In this study, we aimed to quantify the need for specialist palliative care in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc).

Methods: Using data from 875 patients enrolled in the Australian Scleroderma Cohort Study, we defined the need for palliative care as a high symptom burden at two or more consecutive study visits, at ≥50% of overall study visits, or at the study visit immediately before death.

Background: Exposure to green space and feeling connected to the natural environment have independently been associated with improved mental health outcomes. During the coronavirus pandemic, people experienced restrictions on access to the outdoors, and health data indicated a decline in mental health in the UK general population.

Methods: Data available from two independent surveys conducted prior to and during the pandemic enabled a naturally occurring comparison of mental health and its correlates prior to and during the pandemic.

This study examined the impact of therapeutic community gardening prior to and across the pandemic on the wellbeing of individuals referred for support with their mental illness.

The relative propensity for regional metastasis in floor of mouth squamous cell carcinoma versus other oral cavity subsites.

There are previous papers suggesting that floor of mouth (FOM) oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSCC) metastasise earlier than other oral cavity subsites. This report further evaluates that hypothesis. Between February 2006 and December 2019, 825 patients underwent curative resection of OSCC.

Green spaces for mental disorders.

Purpose Of Review: Mental illness is a global challenge, exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic. Research suggests access to local green spaces is associated with better mental health, yet access is not always equitable. Evaluation of how nature-based interventions protect and support mental health is therefore required.

The impact of environmental context on the psychological benefits derived from physical activity has attracted research attention in recent years. Previous reviews have compared effects of indoor versus outdoor exercise. This review compares the effects of physical activity undertaken in outdoor green natural environments versus outdoor urban environments on psychological health outcomes in adult general populations.

Printed titanium implants in UK craniomaxillofacial surgery. Part I: access to digital planning and perceived scope for use in common procedures.

This first part of a two-part study examines perceived applications for and barriers to using printed titanium in light of current caseloads, funding pathways, and use of digital planning. It aims to demonstrate the scope for printed titanium in modern practice and to guide industry about the needs of UK surgeons. A cross-sectional study over 14 weeks was performed electronically with support from the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (BAOMS) and a national trainee-led recruitment team.

Understanding the determinants of attendance at public health interventions is critical for effective policy development. Most research focuses on individual-level determinants of attendance, while less is known about environmental-level determinants. Data were obtained from the Leeds Let's Get Active public health intervention in Leeds, England.

Team-based approach to improving medication reconciliation rates in family medicine residency clinics.

Objective: The objective of this quality improvement project was to design and implement a systematic team-based care approach to medication reconciliation, with a goal of physician-documented medication reconciliation at 70% of all patient office visits.

Setting: Ambulatory clinics located in urban, underserved communities in Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN.

Patient experiences of psychological therapy for depression: a qualitative metasynthesis.

Background: Globally, national guidelines for depression have prioritised evidence from randomised controlled trials and quantitative meta-analyses, omitting qualitative research concerning patient experience of treatments. A review of patient experience research can provide a comprehensive overview of this important form of evidence and thus enable the voices and subjectivities of those affected by depression to have an impact on the treatments and services they are offered. This review aims to seek a comprehensive understanding of patient experiences of psychological therapies for depression using a systematic and rigorous approach to review and synthesis of qualitative research.

Oral focal mucinosis of the palate: a rare disease entity.

Oral focal mucinosis (OFM) is an extremely rare, benign oral soft tissue condition; less than 10 documented cases have been reported in the literature in patients under 18 years old. OFM has an unknown aetiology and predominantly presents in the fourth and fifth decades. The pathogenesis of OFM may be due to fibroblast overproduction of hyaluronic acid.

Chemical Barcoding: A Nuclear-Magnetic-Resonance-Based Approach To Ensure the Quality and Safety of Natural Ingredients.

One of the greatest challenges facing the functional food and natural health product (NHP) industries is sourcing high-quality, functional, natural ingredients for their finished products. Unfortunately, the lack of ingredient standards, modernized analytical methodologies, and industry oversight creates the potential for low quality and, in some cases, deliberate adulteration of ingredients. By exploring a diverse library of NHPs provided by the independent certification organization ISURA, we demonstrated that nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy provides an innovative solution to authenticate botanicals and warrant the quality and safety of processed foods and manufactured functional ingredients.

Team-based care: an expanded medical assistant role - enhanced rooming and visit assistance.

Primary care practices face significant challenges as they pursue the Quadruple Aim. Redistributing care across the interprofessional primary care team by expanding the role of the medical assistant (MA) is a potential strategy to address these challenges. Two sequential, linked processes to expand the role of the MA, called Enhanced Rooming and Visit Assistance, were implemented in four family medicine residency clinics in Minnesota.
