Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by infection with the enveloped RNA betacoronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, led to a global pandemic involving over 7 million deaths. Macrophage inflammatory responses impact COVID-19 severity; however, it is unclear whether macrophages are infected by SARS-CoV-2. Radon studies were conducted in two Canadian cities, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Winnipeg, Manitoba, to evaluate trends in indoor radon before and after the 2010 National Building Code of Canada was adopted into the legally binding provincial building codes in 2011. Participants were recruited in neighbourhoods characterized by newer housing developments. A postcard campaign in each city offered free radon testing to every house in the target areas, and free testing kits were mailed to study participants.

Large, multinucleated cells, like syncytiotrophoblasts (STB), are not readily analyzed by standard methods used for single cells, such as single-cell RNA-sequencing and fluorescence-activated cellular sorting (FACS). Here we have demonstrated that fluorescence-activated nuclear sorting (FANS) is suitable to analyze nuclei from STB. Human pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) can be differentiated into a mixed trophoblast populations comprising approximately 20 % STB by treatment with BMP4 (Bone Morphogenetic Protein-4), plus A83-01 and PD173074, inhibitors of activin and FGF2 signaling, respectively (the BAP model) in about a week.

Purpose: Rehabilitation intervention descriptions often do not explicitly identify active ingredients or how those ingredients lead to changes in patient functioning. The Rehabilitation Treatment Specification System (RTSS) provides guidance to identify the critical aspects of any rehabilitation therapy and supported the development of standardly named ingredients and targets in voice therapy (Rehabilitation Treatment Specification System for Voice Therapy [RTSS-Voice]). In December 1923, a twelve-day course took place at the University of Zaragoza, specifically at the Faculty of Medicine, given by Professor Róbert Bárány, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1914 for his discoveries on the vestibular apparatus. Professor Robert Bárány came to the faculty at the invitation of Professor Victor Fairén through the University Exchange programme. Microperimetry is an emerging technology that provides concurrent analysis of retinal structure and function by combining retinal sensitivity and fixation analysis with fundus imaging. We summarize the substantial evidence validating the evolving role of microperimetry as an adjunctive assessment of visual function in the perioperative setting. We show that microperimetry provides useful complementary information to other established imaging and functional modalities in the perioperative setting for a wide range of vitreoretinal surgical procedures, as well as in cataract and refractive surgeries.

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is an inflammatory disease leading to spine ankylosis; however, the mechanisms behind new bone formation are still not fully understood. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is associated with alterations in cerebral blood flow (CBF), which may underlie functional disability and precipitate TBI-induced neurodegeneration. Although it is known that chronic moderate-severe TBI (msTBI) causes decreases in CBF, the temporal dynamics during the early chronic phase of TBI remain unknown.
