Room temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) are interesting due to their myriad uses in fields such as catalysis and electrochemistry. Their properties are intimately related to their structures, yet structural understanding is difficult to achieve. This work presents a derivation of an approximate expression for the radial distribution function, ().

Recently, a proxy for DNA mechanics, cyclizability, was measured by loop-seq and enabled genome-scale investigation of DNA mechanics. Here, we use this dataset to build a computational model predicting bias-corrected intrinsic cyclizability, with near-perfect accuracy, solely based on DNA sequence.

Transmembrane transporters are the gatekeepers of intracellular environments, controlling the flux of solutes and ions across membranes. To discover which transporters are vital for survival as intracellular amastigote forms, we carried out a systematic loss-of-function screen of the L.

To survive transitions between vertebrate hosts and insect vectors, these parasites rely on precise regulation of gene expression to adapt to environmental changes. Since gene regulation in Kinetoplastids is primarily post-transcriptional, developing efficient genetic tools for modifying genes at their endogenous loci while preserving regulatory mRNA elements is crucial for studying their complex biology.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAccurate determination of activation energies and reaction enthalpies is essential for understanding the propagation step in free radical polymerization, as it significantly affects polymer chain length and structure. In this study, we compare DLPNO-CCSD(T) to canonical CCSD(T) for 17 radical addition activation energies and 18 reaction enthalpies from Radom and Fischer's test set. Additionally, we compare the computationally efficient composite methods G3(MP2)-RAD and CBS-RAD against CCSD(T)/aug-cc-pVTZ and DLPNO-CCSD(T)/CBS methods.

Objectives: Health and well-being have long been identified as key issues for investigation within agricultural communities. While myriad studies have been conducted to investigate causation, impact, outcomes and interventions among farming populations, the overall emphasis has been disproportionately weighted away from the experiences of women. This systematic scoping review determines the prevalence of topics, identifies the target populations and geographical locations of studies, outlines methodological approaches to the subject area, and summarizes the key findings and conclusions of the available literature.

To better understand this link, a number of maternal immune activation (MIA) rodent models have been studied. However, the majority of these studies focus on adult behavioural outcomes that mirror adult symptoms related to neurodevelopmental disorders.

However, inhibited dopamine signaling can increase behavior in certain settings, such as during drug self-administration. While aversive environmental stimuli can reduce dopamine, it is unclear whether such stimuli reliably engage this mechanism in different contexts.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFReliable thermodynamic and kinetic properties of free radical polymerization reactions are essential for synthesizing both primary polymeric materials and specialty polymers. The computational generation of these data from quantum chemistry requires a time-efficient method capable of capturing the essential physics. One such method, fixed-node diffusion Monte Carlo (FN-DMC) (using single Slater-Jastrow trial wavefunctions), has demonstrated the capability to recover 90%-95% of missing dynamic correlation energy for typical systems.

The axoneme-associated inner and outer dynein arms drive sliding of adjacent axoneme microtubule doublets to periodically bend the flagellum for beating, while intraflagellar transport (IFT) kinesins and dyneins carry IFT trains bidirectionally along the axoneme. Despite assembling motile cilia and flagella, IFT train speeds have only previously been quantified in immobilized flagella-mechanical immobilization or genetic paralysis.

We aimed to determine whether GMC guidelines on disclosure of alternatives during consent are being followed in a real-world example which is disclosure of non-operative management as an alternative to appendicectomy in uncomplicated paediatric appendicitis.
Methods: We undertook a retrospective single-centre observational study and national consultant specialist paediatric surgeon survey.

Leishmaniasis, a vector-borne disease, is caused by the infection of Leishmania spp., obligate intracellular protozoan parasites. Presently, human vaccines are unavailable, and the primary treatment relies heavily on systemic drugs, often presenting with suboptimal formulations and substantial toxicity, making new drugs a high priority for LMIC countries burdened by the disease, but a low priority in the agenda of most pharmaceutical companies due to unattractive profit margins.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTransition fibres and distal appendages surround the distal end of mature basal bodies and are essential for ciliogenesis, but only a few of the proteins involved have been identified and functionally characterised. Here, through genome-wide analysis, we have identified 30 transition fibre proteins (TFPs) and mapped their arrangement in the flagellated eukaryote Trypanosoma brucei. We discovered that TFPs are recruited to the mature basal body before and after basal body duplication, with differential expression of five TFPs observed at the assembling new flagellum compared to the existing fixed-length old flagellum.

This water will be used to irrigate future spaceflight crop production systems. We have evaluated the impact of three concentrations (31 ppb, 125 ppb, and 500 ppb) of ionic silver biocide solutions on lettuce in an arcillite (calcinated clay particle substrate) and hydroponic (substrate-less) growth setup after 28 days.

There is significant variation in practice in the detection, analysis and reporting. A survey in 2018 of 137 laboratories participating in the UK National External Quality Assessment Service (UK NEQAS) (6) quality control program showed significant variation in the laboratory processes which highlighted the need for standardisation of the detection, analysis and reporting of cryoglobulins.

With current therapies suffering from poor efficacy and safety profiles as well as emerging resistance, new drug leads are direly needed. In this work, 26 alkaloids (9 natural and 17 synthetic) belonging to the benzyltetrahydroisoquinoline (BI) family were evaluated against both the pro/trypomastigote and amastigote forms of the parasites and , the causative agents of these diseases.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe unicellular parasite Leishmania has a precisely defined cell architecture that is inherited by each subsequent generation, requiring a highly coordinated pattern of duplication and segregation of organelles and cytoskeletal structures. A framework of nuclear division and morphological changes is known from light microscopy, yet this has limited resolution and the intrinsic organisation of organelles within the cell body and their manner of duplication and inheritance is unknown. Using volume electron microscopy approaches, we have produced three-dimensional reconstructions of different promastigote cell cycle stages to give a spatial and quantitative overview of organelle positioning, division and inheritance.
