Safety and Efficacy of a Five-Fraction Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy Schedule for Centrally Located Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer: NRG Oncology/RTOG 0813 Trial.

Purpose: Patients with centrally located early-stage non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are at a higher risk of toxicity from high-dose ablative radiotherapy. NRG Oncology/RTOG 0813 was a phase I/II study designed to determine the maximum tolerated dose (MTD), efficacy, and toxicity of stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) for centrally located NSCLC.

Materials And Methods: Medically inoperable patients with biopsy-proven, positron emission tomography-staged T1 to 2 (≤ 5 cm) N0M0 centrally located NSCLC were accrued into a dose-escalating, five-fraction SBRT schedule that ranged from 10 to 12 Gy/fraction (fx) delivered over 1.

Survey of cull sow bone and joint integrity in the Moorepark Research Farm herd.

The objective of this study was to examine the effects of production (the number and weight of pigs produced over a lifetime) on the physical and mechanical properties of the metacarpals of cull sows, the prevalence of osteochondrosis and conformation traits. Metacarpals (n=79) and forelimbs (n=36) from cull sows were collected at slaughter. Bones were CT scanned for cross-sectional area and moment of inertia.

A survey of bone integrity from cull sows in Ireland.

The objective of this study was to examine the differences in sow metacarpal properties through various parities and to compare the incidence of locomotory problems between stalled and loose-housed sows. Metacarpals (n = 110) of sows from six farms were collected at slaughter and stored at -20°C. Bones from one forelimb of sows in stalls (n = 36) and loose-housed (n = 20) were collected and their articular surfaces examined for Osteochondrosis Dissecans (OCD), these sows were also scored for lameness pre-slaughter.

Analysis of a summertime PM2.5 and haze episode in the mid-Atlantic region.

Observations of the mass and chemical composition of particles less than 2.5 microm in aerodynamic diameter (PM2.5), light extinction, and meteorology in the urban Baltimore-Washington corridor during July 1999 and July 2000 are presented and analyzed to study summertime haze formation in the mid-Atlantic region.

Pollutant transport during a regional O3-episode in the mid-Atlantic states.

Ozone (O3) concentrations in the Baltimore-Washington (B-W) metropolitan area frequently exceed the National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) in the summer months. The most extreme O3 events occur in multi-day high O3 episodes. These events can be regional in scale, with O3 concentrations exceeding the NAAQS at numerous locations along the eastern U.

Routine coronary angiography for effort angina.

Objective: To compare the value of exercise testing and coronary angiography in the management of patients with effort angina.

Design: A retrospective follow-up study.

Setting: A university teaching hospital.

Assessment of cardiac risk 10 days after uncomplicated myocardial infarction.

A total of 188 patients with uncomplicated acute myocardial infarction (long-term Norris prognostic index 3.2) were rapidly mobilised, underwent a symptom-limited exercise test around the day of discharge from hospital (day 10), and returned to work at a median of six weeks after the acute event. The incidence of cardiac death six months, one year, and three years after infarction was 2.

Effects of morphine on left ventricular dimensions and function in patients with previous myocardial infarction.

To assess the effects of morphine sulfate on left ventricular function and dimensions we administered 15 mg of this agent to 11 stable patients with previous transmural myocardial infarction. All studies were carried out in the supine position. Before morphine administration an echocardiogram was obtained, and this procedure was repeated at 15, 30, 60, 120, and 240 min after morphine.

Noonan's syndrome and cyanotic congenital heart disease. A report of 4 cases and review of the literature.

The clinical features of four adult patients with Noonan's syndrome and cyanotic congenital heart disease are presented. These findings, together with those of previously reported cases, illustrate the wide spectrum of cardiac anomalies that may be associated with the multiple somatic abnormalities of Noonan's syndrome.

Severe mycoplasma pneumonia.

A patient who developed who developed a protracted illness following severe mycoplasma pneumonia is described. The acute phase of the infection was complicated by myocarditis and haemolytic anaemia. The respiratory symptoms abated and lung function tests improved with the administration of systemic and inhaled corticosteroids.
