We evaluated a digital cognitive assessment platform, Philips IntelliSpace Cognition, in a case-control study of patients diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and cognitively normal (CN) older adults. Performance on individual neuropsychological tests, cognitive -scores, and Alzheimer's disease (AD)-specific composite scores was compared between the CN and MCI groups. These groups were matched for age, sex, and education.

This study provides insight into the causes of inferior long-term stability of nanocomposites based on organic layered silicates (OLSs) used for cable mantles. A hierarchy was established by analyzing bentonite products and their respective polyolefin nanocomposites. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), gas adsorption, energy-dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDX), and infrared spectroscopy (IR) provided evidence for the adsorption of stabilizers onto the filler surface and thus their reduction in activity, promoting polymer oxidation.

We report a spontaneous and hierarchical self-assembly mechanism of carbon dots prepared from citric acid and urea into nanowire structures with large aspect ratios (>50). Scattering-type scanning near-field optical microscopy (s-SNOM) with broadly tunable mid-IR excitation was used to interrogate details of the self-assembly process by generating nanoscopic chemical maps of local wire morphology and composition. s-SNOM images capture the evolution of wire formation and the complex interplay between different chemical constituents directing assembly over the nano- to microscopic length scales.

Three tetraaryl-1,4-dihydropyrrolo[3,2-b]pyrrole derivatives containing different number of long alkoxy chains (2, 4 and 6) were synthesized, characterized and applied in Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs). The compounds showed good emission properties with Photoluminescence Quantum Yields (PLQYs) higher than 80 % in solution and 50 % in solid state (thin film). The solvatochromism results revealed a pronounced vibronic emission in methylcyclohexane and toluene, characterized by two distinct sharp emission peaks and a small redshift in the following order: methylcyclohexane>toluene>dichloromethane>tetrahydrofuran>acetonitrile.

Lignin@FeO nanoparticles adsorb at oil-water interfaces, form Pickering emulsions, induce on-demand magnetic responses to break emulsions, and can sequester oil from water. Lignin@FeO nanoparticles were prepared using a pH-induced precipitation method and were fully characterized. These were used to prepare Pickering emulsions with castor oil/Sudan red G dye and water at various oil/water volume ratios and nanoparticle concentrations.

Purpose/background: Extensive research has been conducted comparing the metabolic characteristics of older second-generation antipsychotics (SGAs); minimal data exist comparing the long-term metabolic effects of SGAs approved in the last 10 years.

Methods/procedures: A retrospective chart review of patients treated with brexpiprazole, lurasidone, asenapine, cariprazine, and iloperidone (newer SGAs) for at least 6 weeks at an outpatient psychiatric practice was conducted. Patients treated with olanzapine, an older SGA, were included as a comparator.

The rotational diffusive motion of a self-propelled, attractive spherical colloid immersed in a solution of self-avoiding polymers is studied by mesoscale hydrodynamic simulations. A drastic enhancement of the rotational diffusion by more than an order of magnitude in the presence of activity is obtained. The amplification is a consequence of two effects, a decrease of the amount of adsorbed polymers by active motion and an asymmetric encounter with polymers on the squirmer surface, which yields an additional torque and random noise for the rotational motion.

Previous studies have shown l-methylfolate to be a safe and beneficial therapy for neuropsychiatric conditions, including major depressive disorder and schizophrenia in adults. The purpose of this study was to assess safety and describe patient experience using l-methylfolate calcium in a real-world pediatric and adolescent population. We report the synthesis of a new phenalenyl ligand, functionalized with a methyl ester electron withdrawing group, named 9-hydroxy-1-oxo-1 H-phenalen-5-methyl carboxylate (L), and the generated complexes [Ru(bpy)L]PF and [(η-CH)Ru(L)Cl]. Compounds were characterized by spectroscopic and X-ray diffraction methods, and their electrochemical behavior was investigated via cyclic voltammetry and UV-vis spectroelectrochemistry. The one-electron oxidized compounds have an unpaired electron located in the phenalenyl ring, as supported by theoretical calculations (DFT) and EPR results.

The spatiotemporal dynamics in systems of active self-propelled particles is controlled by the propulsion mechanism in combination with various direct interactions, such as steric repulsion and hydrodynamics. These direct interactions are typically anisotropic, and come in different "flavors", such as spherical and elongated particle shapes, pusher and puller flow fields, etc. The combination of the various aspects is expected to lead to new emergent behavior.

A new series of amphiphilic η-areneruthenium(II) compounds containing phenylazo ligands (group I: compounds 1a, 1b, 2a and 2b) and phenyloxadiazole ligands (group II: compounds 3a, 3b, 4a and 4b) were synthesized and characterized for their anti-glioblastoma activity. The effects of the amphiphilic η-areneruthenium(II) complexes on the viability of three human glioblastoma cell lines, U251, U87MG and T98G, were evaluated. The azo-derivative ruthenium complexes (group I) showed high cytotoxicity to all cell lines, whilst most oxadiazole-derivative complexes (group II) were less cytotoxic, except for compound 4a.

Background And Goal: Cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes are responsible for the conversion of clopidogrel into its active metabolite and the metabolism of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), which may also inhibit CYP enzymes. A current Food and Drug Administration advisory suggests avoiding esomeprazole and omeprazole while taking clopidogrel because of concerns that PPIs may compromise clopidogrel's antiplatelet effects. The objective of the present study was to examine the robustness of this interaction using a well-controlled study design in a population of participants free of confounders.

We propose a hydrodynamic model for a spheroidal microswimmer with two tangential surface velocity modes. This model is analytically solvable and reduces to Lighthill's and Blake's spherical squirmer model in the limit of equal major and minor semi-axes. Furthermore, we present an implementation of such a spheroidal squirmer by means of particle-based mesoscale hydrodynamics simulations using the multiparticle collision dynamics approach.

Two isomeric achiral bent-core liquid crystals involving a 4-cyanoresorcinol core and containing a carbosilane unit as nanosegregating segment were synthesized and were shown to form ferroelectric liquid-crystalline phases. Inversion of the direction of one of the COO groups in these molecules leads to a distinct distribution of the electrostatic potential along the surface of the molecule and to a strong change of the molecular dipole moments. Thus, a distinct degree of segregation of the carbosilane units and consequent modification of the phase structure and coherence length of polar order result.

The friction and diffusion coefficients of rigid spherical colloidal particles dissolved in a fluid are determined from velocity and force autocorrelation functions by mesoscale hydrodynamic simulations. Colloids with both slip and no-slip boundary conditions are considered, which are embedded in fluids modeled by multiparticle collision dynamics with and without angular momentum conservation. For no-slip boundary conditions, hydrodynamics yields the well-known Stokes law, while for slip boundary conditions the lack of angular momentum conservation leads to a reduction of the hydrodynamic friction coefficient compared to the classical result.

This study demonstrates that patients who are taking 81 mg of aspirin and are nonresponsive benefit from a dose of 162 mg or greater vs a different antiplatelet therapy. We identified 100 patients who were nonresponsive to aspirin 81 mg via whole blood aggregometry and observed how many patients became responsive at a dose of 162 mg or greater. Platelet nonresponsiveness was defined as >10 Ω of resistance to collagen 1 µg/mL and/or an ohms ratio of collagen 1 µg/mL to collagen 5 µg/mL >0.
