Digital twins (DTs) are an emerging capability in additive manufacturing (AM), set to revolutionize design optimization, inspection, in situ monitoring, and root cause analysis. AM DTs typically incorporate multimodal data streams, ranging from machine toolpaths and in-process imaging to X-ray CT scans and performance metrics. Despite the evolution of DT platforms, challenges remain in effectively inspecting them for actionable insights, either individually or in a multidisciplinary, geographically distributed team setting.

While EMS utilization decreases time to intervention, many US regions are not within timely proximity to an advanced-care-capable stroke center (ASC), defined as a comprehensive or thrombectomy-capable center. This study aims to utilize geographic methodology to identify regions in Wisconsin with both high stroke mortality and low physical accessibility to certified stroke centers (SCs), particularly ASCs.

Target undertriage and overtriage rates of <5% and <35% are difficult for centers to achieve, and performance variability exists. The objective of this study was to optimize and externally validate a previously developed hospital trauma triage prediction model to predict the need for emergent intervention in 6 hours (NEI-6), an indicator of need for a full TTA.

Numerous recent incidents involving ricin have occurred, many in the form of mailed letters resulting in both building and mail sorting facility contamination. The goal of this study was to assess the decontamination efficacy of several commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) cleaners and decontaminants (solutions of sodium hypochlorite [bleach], quaternary ammonium, sodium percarbonate, peracetic acid, and hydrogen peroxide) against a crude preparation of ricin toxin.

Building on the recent evidence that PD-1 inhibition plus chemotherapy improves the OS of patients with metastatic GEJ adenocarcinoma, we evaluated whether the application of this strategy in the neoadjuvant setting would improve the pathological response. This single-center phase I/II trial evaluated the safety, toxicity, and efficacy of neoadjuvant atezolizumab with oxaliplatin and 5-fluorouracil (modified FOLFOX) followed by esophagectomy followed by atezolizumab.

This study examines how racial/ethnic disparities in COVID-19 mortality vary with age, sex, and time period over April-December 2020 in the United States, using mortality from other natural causes as a proxy for underlying health. We study a novel measure, the COVID excess mortality percentage (CEMP), defined as the COVID-19 mortality rate divided by the non-COVID natural mortality rate, converted to a percentage, where the CEMP denominator controls (albeit imperfectly) for differences in population health.

Prior research on COVID-19 mortality rates and racial/ethnic disparities in those rates has not considered to what extent disparities reflect COVID-19-specific factors, versus preexisting health differences. This study examines both questions.

Both asthma and COVID-19 hospitalization are characterized by racial, ethnic and socioeconomic disparities which also pattern geographically, yet no studies to date have adjusted for neighborhood context in the assessment of this association.
Methods: Mixed effects logistic regression was used to estimate the association between asthma and hospitalization due to COVID-19 in a sample of 28,997 children and youth diagnosed with COVID-19 in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, from March 1, 2020, to May 31, 2022.
Background And Aims: This study analyzed the optimal biliary stenting strategy for palliation in cholangiocarcinoma (CCA).
Methods: This was a retrospective study of patients with CCA who underwent biliary drainage from 1997 to 2023. A per-patient analysis of percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD) rates, the median number of ERCPs, and overall survival (OS) and a per-procedure analysis of clinical success (CS), stent-specific adverse events (AEs), and mean time to repeat ERCP by stent type and laterality (unilateral and bilateral) are presented.
Prior research generally finds that the Pfizer-BioNTech (BNT162b2) and Moderna (mRNA1273) COVID-19 vaccines provide similar protection against mortality, sometimes with a Moderna advantage due to slower waning. However, most comparisons do not address selection effects for those who are vaccinated and with which vaccine. We report evidence on large selection effects, and use a novel method to control for these effects.

This study sought to identify baseline clinicopathologic characteristics associated with peritoneal metastasis (PM) among patients with Siewert II AEG.
Methods: Trimodality therapy-eligible patients with Siewert II AEG (2000-2015, single institution) were retrospectively identified.
Primary meningococcal conjunctivitis from is a rare cause for acute, purulent conjunctivitis most commonly presenting in children. Here we present a case of primary meningococcal conjunctivitis in an adult patient with mild signs/symptoms mimicking non-gonococcal bacterial conjunctivitis. The patient was immediately treated with topical and systemic antibiotics.

Comparisons of mortality rates between more and less vaccinated groups may be misleading due to selection bias, as these groups may differ in underlying health status. We studied all adult deaths during the period of 1 April 2021-30 June 2022 in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, linked to vaccination records, and we used mortality from other natural causes to proxy for underlying health.

Though a critical element in understanding inequity, race and ethnicity information are often missing from the prehospital patient care report. This study aimed to characterize and understand demographic trends among records with missing race and ethnicity information.

Both problems are dictated by the properties of an organism's metabolism. However, due to the tremendous complexity of metabolic systems, it can be difficult to predict how metabolism will respond to changes in nutrient availability.

Objectives: This 2-phase study aimed to answer the questions "What do EMS providers know about report readers?" and "What do report readers expect from reports?" through surveys and interviews.
Background: We present our experience and established management strategy for endoscopic ultrasonography-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) in diagnosing suspected pancreatic neoplasms at a tertiary referral cancer hospital.
Method: Relevant data were extracted from our database for patients who underwent EUS-FNA for suspected pancreatic neoplasms at our institution between 2007 and 2016.
Results: Among the 309 patients, the median age was 67 years and 56% were men.
COVID-19 vaccines have saved millions of lives and prevented countless adverse patient disease outcomes. Understanding the long-term effectiveness of these vaccines is imperative to developing recommendations for precautions and booster doses. Comparisons between more and less vaccinated groups may be misleading due to selection bias, as these groups may differ in underlying health status and thus risk of adverse COVID-19 outcomes.
