Background: Molnupiravir (MOV) is an orally bioavailable ribonucleoside with antiviral activity against all tested SARS-CoV-2 variants. We describe the demographic, clinical, and treatment characteristics of non-hospitalized Danish patients treated with MOV and their clinical outcomes following MOV initiation.
Method: Among all adults (>18 years) who received MOV between 16 December 2021 and 30 April 2022 in an outpatient setting in Denmark, we summarized their demographic and clinical characteristics at baseline and post-MOV outcomes using descriptive statistics.
Background: Health care is a strongly universal right across European welfare states; however, social inequalities in health persist. This literature argues that health care organization is an important but overlooked determinant of social inequalities in health, as health systems buffer or amplify structural and individual health determinants. The Client-Centered Coordination Platform (3CP) model offers integrated health access to people with severe mental illness, through core groups of professionals from across health and social services.

Materials And Methods: The study used registry data covering the entire population of older adults (≥65 years) in seven municipalities in Denmark (N = 178 787 individuals). Oral care services utilisation was computed from administrative data on oral care contacts up to and including 2019, including both private oral care and a municipal oral care programme (MOCP).
Social inequalities in health are a complex problem that often emerge at the interfaces between different sectors, such as health and social care, and the corresponding transitions between different provider organisations. Vulnerable people are typically in greater need of accessing different sectors of the health system and therefore often experience lack of coherence in their treatment pathway. We aimed to examine the contexts of health systems that influence initiatives concerned with integrated health access.

National surveillance, leveraging mandatory reporting and epidemiological data, highlights three distinct clades linked to heterosexual transmission. Despite the rise, these exhibit high susceptibility, contrasting MSM-associated strains.

An increasing number of patients with heart rhythm disorders are becoming eligible for cardiac interventions, not least due to the rising prevalence of atrial fibrillation and increased longevity in the population. Meanwhile, the expansive costs of healthcare face finite societal resources, and a cost-conscious approach to new technologies is critical.

According to guidelines, inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) are the cornerstone of asthma management. However, ICS treatment is associated with a risk of local side effects, including hoarseness and thrush, and long-term high-dose therapy may cause systemic adverse effects.

Background And Aims: Weight gain is a major adverse effect of antipsychotic medication, negatively affecting physical and mental well-being. The objective of this study was to explore if dose reduction, discontinuation, switch to a partial agonist, or switch from polypharmacy to monotherapy will lead to weight loss.
Methods: Controlled and uncontrolled studies reporting the effects of discontinuation, dose reduction, switch to a partial agonist, or switch from polypharmacy to monotherapy on weight were included.
Background: Patients with asthma are heterogeneous in clinical presentation and in response to treatment. Despite this, tools to guide treatment are limited and include mainly measures of eosinophilic inflammation and symptoms. Airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR) to mannitol is present in patients across inflammatory phenotypes and improve with inhaled corticosteroids.

HS affects hair follicles causing perifollicular inflammation, resulting in the formation of nodules and painful abscesses. Intense pulsed light (IPL) uses selective photothermolysis to destroy the hair follicles.

Background: Serious mental illness (SMI) reduces life expectancy, primarily due to somatic comorbidity linked to obesity. Meta-analyses have found beneficial effects of lifestyle interventions in people with SMI and recommended their implementation to manage obesity.
Objective: The objective of this systematic review was to assess the benefits and harms of individualized lifestyle interventions for weight in people diagnosed with SMI and to explore potential mediators and moderators of the effect.
Objective: Airway hyperresponsiveness and airway inflammation are important hallmarks of asthma and are useful in asthma diagnosing, monitoring and treatment. The aim of the study was to assess whether two commonly used clinical tests, the mannitol challenge and Fraction of exhaled NO (FeNO), were stable clinical indicators over time in stable untreated asthmatics.
Methods: 54 non-smoking, asthma patients not treated with steroids were enrolled in the study and assessed at baseline and a median of 6 months later.
Asthma is a common disease causing cough, wheezing and shortness of breath. It has been shown that the lung microbiota in asthma patients is different from the lung microbiota in healthy controls suggesting that a connection between asthma and the lung microbiome exists. Individuals with asthma who are also tobacco smokers experience more severe asthma symptoms and smoking cessation is associated with improved asthma control.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Tobacco use causes long-term morbidity and mortality. In patients with asthma, the frequency of smokers is high; however, asthmatic smokers experience more pronounced symptoms, accelerated loss of lung function and treatment resistance. Varenicline is an effective drug in smoking cessation, when investigated in COPD patients and general populations.

For decades, asthma has been treated with bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroids (ICS). However, adverse effects of ICS and disease heterogeneity necessitate improvements in the existing treatment regimes.

In spite of numerous detrimental effects on asthma, smoking is common among asthma patients. These smoking-induced aggravations of asthma may be attributed to changes in airway inflammation, which is characterized by a higher degree of neutrophilic inflammation than in non-smokers.

Background: Smoking has been shown to have several detrimental effects on asthma, including poor symptom control, attenuated treatment response and accelerated decline in lung function. In spite of this, smoking is at least as common among asthma patients as in the rest of the population. The aggravations of smoking on asthma may be caused by effects on airway inflammation, which has been found to be changed in asthmatic smokers.

Introduction: Asthma is a common chronic respiratory disease affecting the airways causing inflammation, airway hyperreactivity (AHR), and respiratory symptoms. Frequently, asthma can be effectively treated with inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) but in more severe cases additional drugs are required, such as long-acting β2-agonists (LABA). Mometasone furoate (MF) is a synthetic steroid exhibiting a strong affinity for the glucocorticoid receptor as well as a low bioavailability and a high plasma protein binding.

Using follicle hemispheres in thick histological sections, morphometric changes of primordial to primary follicles and possible age-related effects were evaluated.
Methods: In ovarian sections from 25 females aged 4-39 years a total of 1122 primordial, transitory or primary follicles were assessed for the diameters of follicles, oocytes and oocyte nuclei and for number of granulosa cells (GCs).
In this prospective, randomized study, concentrations of gonadotrophins and steroids in pre-ovulatory follicular fluid (FF) and serum were related to type of stimulation protocol as well as to the outcome of assisted reproduction in 280 women subjected to the long protocol gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist pituitary down-regulation and ovarian stimulation with either human menopausal gonadotrophin (HMG) or recombinant FSH. In the women treated with HMG, concentrations of LH, FSH, oestradiol and androstenedione in FF were significantly higher, and those of human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) and progesterone significantly lower, than in the women treated with recombinant FSH (rFSH). More women became pregnant and delivered in the HMG than in the rFSH group.
