Introduction: Atlas and axis fractures are the most severe cervical fractures which may result in complete paralysis or death. The purpose of the current study is to identify disparities regarding length of stay (LOS), mortality, and demographic factors in patients with the most serious cervical spine fractures utilizing a nationally representative database.

Infants are vulnerable to infections owing to a limited ability to mount a humoral immune response and their tolerogenic immune phenotype, which has impeded the success of newborn vaccination. Transplacental transfer of IgG from mother to fetus provides crucial protection in the first weeks of life, and maternal immunization has recently been implemented as a public health strategy to protect newborns against serious infections. Despite their early success, current maternal vaccines do not provide comparable protection across pregnancies with varying gestational lengths and placental and maternal immune features, and they do not account for the dynamic interplay between the maternal immune response and placental transfer.

Beta-lactam antibiotics are widely used in the intensive care unit due to their favorable effectiveness and safety profiles. Beta-lactams given to patients with sepsis must be delivered as soon as possible after infection recognition (early), treat the suspected organism (appropriate), and be administered at a dose that eradicates the infection (adequate). Early and appropriate antibiotic delivery occurs in >90% of patients, but less than half of patients with sepsis achieve adequate antibiotic exposure.

SSc is classified into limited cutaneous SSc (lcSSc) and diffuse cutaneous subgroups (dcSSc) based on the extent of skin involvement. Purpose: To determine if long head of the biceps (LHB) tenotomy is not inferior to suprapectoral LHB tenodesis when performed in conjunction with arthroscopic repair of small- to medium-sized nontraumatic rotator cuff tears.

Methods: This multicenter, randomized, non-inferiority trial recruited 100 participants older than 50 years who had a supraspinatus and/or infraspinatus tear sagittally smaller than 3 cm and arthroscopically confirmed LHB pathology. During arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, we randomized 48 patients to undergo suprapectoral LHB tenodesis and 52 patients to undergo LHB tenotomy.
