Background: Ferroptosis is extremely relevant to the progression of neurodegenerative pathologies such as Alzheimer's disease (AD). Ubiquitin-specific proteases (USP) can affect the NADPH oxidase family.
Objective: Our study aimed to elucidate the potential role and molecular basis of a certain USP19 in reducing ferroptosis and mitochondrial injury in AD cells by targeting NOX4 stability.
Background: Respiratory nurses faced tremendous challenges when the Omicron variant spread rapidly in China from late 2022 to early 2023. An in-depth understanding of respiratory nurses' experiences during challenging times can help to develop better management and support strategies. The present study was conducted to explore and describe the work experiences of nurses working in the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (PCCM) during the Omicron outbreak in China.

Areca nut holds a significant position in traditional medicine in many areas and ranks first among the four southern medicines in China.

To address this issue, a low-carbon medium-chromium steel with martensite and nano residual austenite phases have been designed for future use. However, the residual austenite network could decrease the properties.

The process of gene editing via the clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat (CRISPR)/Cas9 system offers the potentiality to provide cures for dominantly inherited disorders. Herein, we generated a CRISPR/SaCas9-mediated gene reduction system to inactivate the mutant, while replacing normal rhodopsin in a rhodopsin mutation mouse model.

However, its active ingredients, targets of action, and potential mechanisms are still uncertain. Here, we investigate the role of DM as a prospective modulator of protection against non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) induced by type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and illustrate the molecular mechanisms potentially involved.

This study aimed to develop a model to predict the visual outcomes of vitrectomy surgery in OGI-NLP eyes using a machine learning algorithm and to provide an interpretable system for the prediction results.
Methods: Clinical data of 459 OGI-NLP eyes were retrospectively collected from 19 medical centres across China to establish a training data set for developing a model, called 'VisionGo', which can predict the visual outcome of the patients involved and compare with the Ocular Trauma Score (OTS).

Purpose: To report a case of eye structure changes in a patient with long-term overdose of sildenafil citrate.
Observations: A 28-year-old male presented to our outpatient clinic with flare sensation in both eyes for 1 year after taking sildenafil citrate at a dose of 200 mg daily for two years. mERG and OCT examination revealed persistent damage of retinal photoreceptor cells.
Aim: To determine the effect of safranal on diabetic retinopathy and its possible mechanisms.
Methods: We used human retinal microvascular endothelial cells (HRMECs) to test the influence of safranal . High glucose damage was established and an safranal was tested at various concentrations for its potential to reduce cell viability using the MTT assay.
Objective: To determine the incidence of fundus hemorrhage (FH) not associated with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) during ocular screening and report their clinical features, risk factors, therapies, and prognosis in a large population of premature newborns.
Methods: The medical records of all preterm newborns admitted to the Department of Ophthalmology, Peking University People's Hospital, Beijing, from January 1, 2016 through August 31, 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. Fundus examinations were carried out by experienced retinal experts.

Aim: To evaluate the potential efficacy and mechanisms of nintedanib in corneal neovascularization (NV) in rabbit models.
Methods: Corneal NV was induced using 1 mol/L NaOH. Rabbits (=21) were randomized to 3 groups: Group 1 were treated with 0.
Blood vessel dysfunction causes several retinal diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, familial exudative vitreoretinopathy, macular degeneration and choroidal neovascularization in pathological myopia. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-neutralizing proteins provide benefits in most of those diseases, yet unsolved haemorrhage and frequent intraocular injections still bothered patients. Here, we identified endothelial CD146 as a new target for retinal diseases.

mixture (DMix) is an effective treatment for diabetic nephropathy (DN), but the molecular mechanism underlying its action remains unclear. In this study, we investigated whether DMix regulates the transforming growth factor-1 (TGF-1)/Smads signal transduction pathway. Twenty-four db/db mice were randomly divided into three groups: the model, DMix, and gliquidone groups, while eight db/m mice were selected as the normal control group.

Neuroinflammation is believed to play a primary role in the pathogenesis of most neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and schizophrenia. Currently, suitable in vitro neuroinflammation models for studying cellular interactions and inflammatory mechanisms at the neurovascular unit are still scarce. In this study, we established an experimentally flexible tri-culture neuroinflammation model combining murine microglial cells (N11), mouse neuroblastoma Nuro2A cell lines and brain microvascular endothelial MVEC(B3) cells in a transwell co-culture system stimulated with lipopolysaccharides.

Objective: To analyze the association between the promoter of αA-crystallin (CRYAA) variants with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) and polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) in a northern Chinese population.
Methods: We performed a case-control study in a group of Chinese patients with nAMD (n = 345) or PCV (n = 371) and contrasted the results against an independent control group comprising 514 mild cataract patients without any evidence of age-related maculopathy. An association analysis of allele frequencies was performed for 6 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) at the CRYAA locus (rs3761381, rs3761382, rs79545821, rs13053109, rs7278468, and rs117396767).
Purpose: Recent research has provided novel insight into the function of fibromodulin (FMOD) in wound healing and angiogenesis. The role of FMOD in initiation of proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) has not been studied. This study investigated the effect of FMOD on human retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cell, which plays an essential role in the progression of PVR, and the possible mechanisms.
