The association between Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and low-grade inflammation has been explored in children but rarely in adults. Inflammation is characteristic of some, but not all, patients with ADHD and might be influenced by ADHD medication but also lifestyle factors including nutrition, smoking, and stress. It is also still unclear if any specific symptoms are related to inflammation.

Scientific tasks aimed at decoding and characterizing complex systems and processes at high pressures set new challenges for modern X-ray diffraction instrumentation in terms of X-ray flux, focal spot size and sample positioning. Presented here are new developments at the Extreme Conditions beamline (P02.2, PETRA III, DESY, Germany) that enable considerable improvements in data collection at very high pressures and small scattering volumes.

Background: Scelionid wasps are arthropod egg parasitoids, many of which are relevant to global biosecurity. However, the scelionid fauna of Germany has not received much attention from professional taxonomists.

New Information: Eleven species and four genera are recorded for the first time from Germany, including species of interest to agriculture and biological control.

The brown marmorated stink bug, , is a polyphagous pest species of worldwide economic importance. Since the mid-1990s, it has invaded and become established in various countries outside its native Asian range. In the newly invaded areas, biological control by native natural enemies has been shown to be insufficient in the long-term control of this severe pest.

Purpose: The goal of the present study was to investigate the effect of deep regional hyperthermia on early and long-term oncological outcomes in the context of preoperative radiochemotherapy in rectal cancer.

Methods: In this prospective phase II trial, patients with locally advanced rectal cancer were treated with 5-fluorouracil based preoperative radiochemotherapy with 50.4 Gy in 28 fractions.

Background: With the following report we want to present an unusual case of a patient suffering from acute respiratory distress syndrome with early discovery of bacterial pathogens in bronchoalveolar liquid samples that developed a fatal undiscovered disseminated fungal infection.

Case Presentation: A 67-year-old man was admitted to our university hospital with dyspnea. Progressive respiratory failure developed leading to admission to the intensive care unit, intubation and prone positioning was necessary.

Combination of in situ laser heating with single-crystal X-ray diffraction (scXRD) in diamond anvil cells (DACs) provides a tool to study crystal structures and/or chemistry of materials at simultaneous high pressures and high temperatures. Here, we describe the first dedicated single-crystal X-ray diffractometer coupled with double-sided laser heating (dsLH) system. The scXRD/dsLH setup was developed for the P02.

Fast compression experiments performed using dynamic diamond anvil cells (dDACs) employing piezoactuators offer the opportunity to study compression-rate dependent phenomena. In this paper, we describe an experimental setup which allows us to perform time-resolved x-ray diffraction during the fast compression of materials using improved dDACs. The combination of the high flux available using a 25.

Petscher and Logan's (2014) description of quantile regression (QR) might mislead readers to believe it would estimate the relation between an outcome, y, and one or more predictors, x, at different quantiles of the unconditional distribution of y. However, QR models the conditional quantile function of y given x just as linear regression models the conditional mean function. This article's contribution is twofold: First, it discusses potential consequences of methodological misconceptions and formulations of Petscher and Logan's (2014) presentation by contrasting features of QR and linear regression.

Background: Natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) has seen considerable new developments in its evolution to a platform for rectal and sigmoid resection, but to date no true single NOTES procedure has been convincing. This study investigates the safety and feasibility of a further developed transanal NOTES platform for single-access NOTES rectosigmoid resection.

Methods: Ten large female pigs, mean weight 99.

Ground feeds for pigs were investigated for fungal contamination before and after pelleting (subsamples in total n = 24) by cultural and molecular biological methods. A fungal-specific primer pair ITS1/ITS5.8R was used to amplify fungal DNA; PCR products were processed for the PCR-SSCP method.

Mycotoxin Res

March 2002

An analytical method for the detection of fusaric acid in wheat and wheat products has been developed as well as employed for the survey of randomly selected samples (n=33). While the application of GC-FID proved to be not sensitive enough for this purpose, the sensitivity and selectivity of GC-MS permitted the quantification of the mycotoxin in 78% of the wheat samples. The measured concentrations ranged from 7 to 570 μg/kg (average value 134 μg/kg).
