To evaluate the effects of age on the morphologies of the crystalline lens, ciliary muscle (CM), Schlemm's canal (SC), and trabecular meshwork (TM) using swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT). Images of the crystalline lens and iridocorneal angle were obtained in healthy participants' eyes using SS-OCT. Morphological parameters of the crystalline lens, CM, and TM/SC were measured, and the relationship between these parameters and age was evaluated.

Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed how age and cycloplegia (a temporary paralysis of the eye muscle) affect the structure of the crystalline lens using advanced imaging technology.
  • The research involved 76 individuals aged 18 to 86, finding that younger participants showed more significant changes in lens structure due to cycloplegia compared to older individuals.
  • Results indicated that with increasing age, the lens' anterior surface steepened and its equatorial diameter increased, while changes from cycloplegia were less pronounced in older adults.
