The continuous release of phosphorus from sediments by geochemical processes can cause endogenous eutrophication. This study examined the effect of carbon felt-sediment microbial fuel cells (CF-SMFCs) on the release of deposited phosphorus into the overlying water. In the CF-MFC system, the voltage ranged from 27 to 584 mV and the anode electrode potential increased from -130 mV to 202 mV.

CSN5 is responsible for the deneddylation of cullin-RING E3 ubiquitin ligases and is closely linked to the development of various cancers. We previously developed a noncatalytic activity assay platform using novel fluorescent probes derived from azaindole inhibitors, which also highlighted the potential for further structural optimization of azaindoles. Herein, we report a series of new 4-NH-substituted azaindole derivatives, some of which showed nanomolar activity against the CSN5 subunit.

Microplastics and nanoplastics (MPs/NPs) are ubiquitous environmental pollutants that act as endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), raising significant concerns about their impact on human health. Research highlights the hazardous effects of MPs/NPs on both male and female reproductive systems, influencing germ cells, embryo development, and progeny. Introduction: C-reactive protein (CRP) is a prototypic inflammation marker, with elevated levels associated with an increased risk of cerebrovascular events. To determine whether CRP could be a useful biomarker of stroke etiology, we investigated CRP expression in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) clots from large-artery atherosclerosis (LAA), cardio-embolism (CE) and cryptogenic (Crypt) subtypes.

The study aims to investigate the long-term sequelae of HFMD survivors and to provide a comprehensive understanding of the potential harm caused by this infectious disease.

Participants: In the retrospective phase of the cohort study, children diagnosed with HFMD from January 2014 to January 2023 were included, and clinical and demographic information about the patients was collected through a self-developed questionnaire.

Prediabetes is characterized as a transitional phase between normal blood glucose and diabetes, and the potential role of fucoidan in the progression of diabetes is still debated. The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was designed to assess the effect of fucoidan supplementation on glycolipid metabolism, systemic inflammation and gut microbiota in individuals with prediabetes. A total of 70 Chinese participants with prediabetes were randomized to either fucoidan or placebo group, receiving daily doses of 1000 mg fucoidan or placebo capsules for 12 weeks.

In this work, electromembrane extraction (EME) was used for the first time to separate aconitine (AC), mesaconitine (Mes-AC) and hypaconitine (Hyp-AC) from biological samples and Chinese herbal medicines. Efficient EME of polar and high molecular weight aconitine alkaloids from different sample matrices was achieved with the solvent of 1-ethyl-2-nitrobenzene (ENB). Under the optimal EME conditions, EME provided recoveries for all targets in the range of 72%-74 %, 85%-103 % and 92%-94 % for whole blood, urine and aqueous samples.
