Proprotein convertase subtilisin kexin type 9 (PCSK9) is a clinically validated target on the treatment of cardiovascular disease (CVD). PCSK9 can regulate the hepatocyte surface low density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) level by binding to LDLR and leading to their degradation in the lysosome.
