Groundwater is a critical resource for economic growth and livelihoods in the dense agricultural plains of plateaus. However, contaminations from various sources pose significant threats to groundwater quality. Understanding the sources of groundwater contamination and the mechanisms of hydrochemical control is essential for the sustainable development of agriculturally intensive plains.

Methylglyoxal (MG) can be produced via various pathways in plants. MG is toxic for plant cells at high levels, however it acts as a signaling molecule at low levels, just as HO in plants. Therefore, MG detection is very important for investigating its roles in plant cells, especially in plants under environmental stresses.

The confined groundwater of arid sedimentary plains has been disturbed by long-term anthropogenic extraction, and its hydrochemical quality is required for sustainable development. The present research investigates the hydrochemical characteristics, formation, potential health threats, and quality suitability of the confined groundwater in the central North China Plain. Results show that the confined groundwater has a slightly alkaline nature in the study area, predominantly dominated by fresh-soft Cl-Na and HCO-Na types.

Biosensing is vital for many areas like disease diagnosis, infectious disease prevention, and point-of-care monitoring. Microfluidics has been evidenced to be a powerful tool for biosensing via integrating biological detection processes into a palm-size chip. Based on the chip structure, microfluidics has two subdivision types: open microfluidics and closed microfluidics, whose operation methods would be diverse.

Identifying hydrochemical fingerprints of groundwater is a challenge in areas with complex geological settings. This study takes the Gilgit-Baltistan, a complex geological area in west high Himalayas, Pakistan, as the study area to get insights into the hydrochemcial genesis and quality of groundwater in complex geological mountainous regions. A total of 53 samples were collected across the area to determine the hydrochemical characteristics and formation of groundwater.

The present study investigated the effect and underlying mechanisms of ginsenoside Rg1 (Rg1) in attenuating subacute liver injury induced by D-galactose (D-gal) in mice. Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) male C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into 3 groups: i) D-gal-administration group (D-gal group), where the mice were intraperitoneally administrated with D-gal (120 mg/kg/day for 42 days); ii) D-gal + Rg1 group where the mice were treated with 120 mg/kg/day D-gal for 42 days and with Rg1 at a dose of 20 mg/kg/day for 35 days. The first dose of Rg1 was administered on the 8th day of treatment with D-gal; and iii) the normal control group, where the mice were injected with an equal volume of saline for 42 days.

To investigate the effect and mechanism of ginsenoside Rg1 antagonizing bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) aging, which contribute to the delaying senescence of hematopoietic cells in vitro and in vivo. Rg1 could reduce the effects of senility agent on BMSCs by decreasing the rate of SA-Gal positive cells, and increasing the proliferative ability of CCK8 cells. After BMNCs co-cultured with BMSCs which were treated by Rg1 in vitro, compared with BMNCs co-cultured with BMSCs from aging group, percentage of positive cell SA-Gal staining was decreased, the formation ability of CFU-Mix was enhanced, the proliferative ability was increased, and the apoptosis rate was decreased.

In this paper, the enhancement effect of backward second harmonic generation of acoustic waves in the system, consisting of a linear solid superlattice and a nonlinear liquid resonant cavity, is investigated analytically and numerically. Results show the nonlinear effect in the system can be enhanced drastically due to the existence of defective modes and the large acoustic impedance mismatching between solids and liquids. Because of the latter, the dual-resonance phenomenon can always take place approximately and automatically.

Background: Ginsenoside Rg1 (Rg1) is one of the most active ingredients in Panax ginseng and has been proven to have anti-oxidative and anti-aging properties. However, there have been few reports concerning the anti-aging effects of Rg1 on the hematopoietic microenvironment and bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs).

Methods: Thirty Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups (control, D-galactose (D-gal)-administration, Rg1-treatment, and D-gal-administration + Rg1-treatment groups).

In this paper, the resonance frequency equation and expression of displacement amplitude magnifications of a full-wave barber ultrasonic horn are obtained. By discussing the relationships between the displacement amplitude magnifications and the geometrical dimensions, the optimized design of the horn for the largest magnification is proposed, which is helpful to improve the radiation power and the transfer efficiency of the acoustic energy of the ultrasonic oscillatory system. Based on the optimized design of the horn, we introduced a barbell ultrasonic transducer operated in the longitudinal full-wave vibrational model and obtained the resonance frequency equations.

This paper presents a new high power ultrasonic (HPU) radiator, which consists of a transducer, an ultrasonic horn, and a metal circular ring. Both the transducer and horn in longitudinal vibrations are used to drive a metal circular ring in a radial-axial coupled vibration. This coupled vibration cannot only generate ultrasound in both the radial and axial directions, but also focus the ultrasound inside the circular ring.
