In preclinical studies, GST-HG141, a novel hepatitis B virus (HBV) capsid assembly modulator displayed potent anti-HBV activity in vitro and strong efficacy in HBV animal models. A randomized, double-blind, ascending phase 1b trial assessed the pharmacokinetics, safety, and efficacy of GST-HG141 in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) individuals. Thirty treatment-naïve CHB patients were enrolled in three cohorts (25, 50, and 100 mg twice orally after meals daily) over 28 days, with 10 subjects per cohort (8:2 ratio for GST-HG141 and placebo).

Marine actinomycetes exhibit a high level of biodiversity and possess significant potential for the production of high-value secondary metabolites. During the course of investigation of marine actinobacteria from corals, two strains, namely, HNM0983 and HNM0986, were isolated from stony corals collected from the coastal area of Hainan Island. The 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene sequence analysis revealed that these two strains are putative novel taxa of the genus .

Article Synopsis
  • This meta-analysis investigates the effects of ischemic preconditioning (IPC) on physical fitness, focusing on how it impacts aerobic and anaerobic endurance, explosive power, and strength in athletes.
  • By analyzing 27 studies with 405 participants, the review found that IPC significantly improved blood lactate levels and performance metrics after various types of exercise while reducing completion times for glycolysis and aerobic-powered activities.
  • However, IPC did not notably affect maximum oxygen uptake or other select performance measures, suggesting it may specifically benefit certain exercise types, warranting further research into its application.

Owing to substantial advances in the past several decades, transition-metal-catalyzed asymmetric reactions have garnered considerable attention as pivotal methods for constructing chiral molecules from abundant, readily available achiral counterparts. These advances are largely attributed to the development of chiral ligands that control stereochemistry through steric repulsion and other noncovalent interactions between the ligands and functional groups or prochiral centers on the substrates. However, stereocontrol weakens dramatically with increasing distance between the reaction site and the functional group or prochiral center.

Background: Greater yam is a key staple crop grown in tropical and subtropical regions, while its asexual propagation mode had led to non-flowering mutations. How transposable elements contribute to its genetic variations is rarely analyzed. We used transcriptome and whole genome sequencing data to identify active transposable elements (TEs) and genetic variation caused by these active TEs.

Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) H+-ATPase1 (AHA1), a plasma membrane (PM)-localized H+-ATPase, plays a key role in plant alkali stress tolerance by pumping protons from the cytoplasm to the apoplast. However, its molecular dynamics are poorly understood. We report that many C2-domain ABA-related (CAR) protein family members interact with AHA1 in Arabidopsis.

Preparing chiral plasmonic nanoparticles (NPs) with strong chiroptical responses is crucial in numerous fields including constructing optical materials, chiral sensing, and chiral-dependent biological processes. However, precise regulation over the chiral optical activity and chiral configuration of plasmonic NPs is still a challenge. In this work, we report Au helicoid NPs with different chiral structures and reversal chirality directed by the oligomeric structure of inducer glutathione (GSH).

Pyridine, a widespread aromatic heterocycle, features a sp-hybridized nitrogen atom that can readily coordinate to metals, leading to distinctive achievements in catalysis. In stark contrast, π-coordination of pyridine and derivatives with transition metals is notably scarce, and the involvement of such activation mode in catalysis remains to be developed. Herein, we present amination reactions of aminopyridines that leverages the reversible π coordination with a ruthenium catalyst as the arenophilic π acid, rather than relying on the conventional κ-N coordination.

Photoluminescence (PL) metal nanoclusters (NCs) have attracted extensive attention due to their excellent physicochemical properties, good biocompatibility, and broad application prospects. However, developing water-soluble PL metal NCs with a high quantum yield (QY) and high stability for visual drug delivery remains a great challenge. Herein, we have synthesized ultrabright l-Arg-ATT-Au/Ag NCs (Au/Ag NCs) with a PL QY as high as 73% and excellent photostability by heteroatom doping and surface rigidization in aqueous solution.

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is recognized for its exceptional effectiveness as a promising cancer treatment method. However, it is noted that overexposure to the dosage and sunlight in traditional PDT can result in damage to healthy tissues, due to the low tumor selectivity of currently available photosensitizers (PSs). To address this challenge, we introduce herein a new strategy where the small molecule-targeted agent, erlotinib, is integrated into a boron dipyrromethene (BODIPY)-based PS to form conjugate to enhance the precision of PDT.

Water transportation to developing tissues relies on the structure and function of plant xylem cells. Plant microtubules govern the direction of cellulose microfibrils and guide secondary cell wall formation and morphogenesis. However, the relevance of microtubule-determined xylem wall thickening patterns in plant hydraulic conductivity remains unclear.

Background: Maize is a major cereal crop world widely, however, the yield of maize is frequently limited by dehydration and even death of plants, which resulted from osmotic stress such as drought and salinity. Dissection of molecular mechanisms controlling stress tolerance will enable plant scientists and breeders to increase crops yield by manipulating key regulatory components.

Methods: The candidate OSR1 gene was identified by map-based cloning.

Solution-based methods for fabricating all-inorganic perovskite film arrays often suffer from limited control over nucleation and crystallization, resulting in poor homogeneity and coverage. To improve film quality, advanced vapor deposition techniques are employed for continuous film. Here, the vapor deposition strategy to the all-inorganic perovskite films array, enabling area-selective deposition of perovskite through substrate modulation is expanded.

Plasma membrane (PM)-associated abscisic acid (ABA) signal transduction is an important component of ABA signaling. The C2-domain ABA-related (CAR) proteins have been reported to play a crucial role in recruiting ABA receptor PYR1/PYL/RCAR (PYLs) to the PM. However, the molecular details of the involvement of CAR proteins in membrane-delimited ABA signal transduction remain unclear.

Self-healing elastomers usually show poor mechanical properties and environmental stability, and they cannot self-report mechanical/chemical damage. Herein, an innovative design strategy is reported that combines symmetric/asymmetric chain extenders to create large yet disordered hard domains within polyurethane (PU) elastomers, enabling the integration of mechanical robustness and self-reporting and self-healing capabilities to overcome both mechanical and chemical damage. Specifically, large yet disordered hard domains were created by governing the molar contents of asymmetric fluorescent 2-(4-aminophenyl)-5-aminobenzimidazole (PABZ) and symmetric 4-aminophenyl disulfide (APDS).

Recently, many tough synthetic hydrogels have been created as promising candidates in fields such as smart electronic devices. In this paper, we propose a simple strategy to construct tough and robust hydrogels. Two-dimensional TiCT MXene nanosheets and metal ions were introduced into poly(acrylamide-co-acrylic acid) hydrogels, the MXene nanosheets acted as multifunctional cross-linkers and effective stress-transfer centers, and physical cross-links were formed between Fe and carboxylic acid.
