Background: Colorectal signet-ring cell carcinoma (SRCC) is a rare subtype of malignant adenocarcinoma, accounting for approximately 1 % of colorectal cancer (CRC) cases. Its biomarkers and molecular characteristics remain controversial, and there are no specific therapeutic targets or strategies for its clinical treatment.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted between January 2010 and December 2021.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how certain conditions like pregnancy, transplantation, and blood transfusions trigger the production of platelet antibodies, particularly in male patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who have no such histories.
  • It reveals that the use of antitumor medications may be an independent risk factor for positive platelet antibody results, suggesting a link between cancer treatment and immune responses.
  • The research indicates that monitoring platelet antibody levels in HCC patients could be crucial in preventing complications like anemia and bleeding related to their treatment, especially when they exhibit a decrease in blood cell counts.

Introduction: The insertion of a double-lumen tracheal tube may cause a transient but more intense sympathetic response. We examined the effects of esketamine vs. dexmedetomidine as an adjuvant to anesthesia induction to blunt double lumen tracheal (DLT) intubation induced cardiovascular stress response.

Purpose: To compare the effect of Dural puncture epidural (DPE) and conventional epidural (EP), in conjunction with programmed intermittent epidural bolus (PIEB) and low-concentration ropivacaine strategy.

Methods: After written informed consent was obtained, healthy nulliparous women with singleton pregnancies, vertex presentation at 38-42 weeks' gestation, cervical dilation of 3-5 cm, and a desire for pain relief were randomly assigned to DPE or EP group. Dural matter was puncture with 25G Whitacre needle in DPE group.

Breast cancer (BC) is a heterogeneous disease characterized by significant differences in prognosis and therapy response. Numerous prognostic tools have been developed for breast cancer. Usually these tools are based on bulk RNA-sequencing (RNA-Seq) and ignore tumor heterogeneity.

Background: Dural mater is punctured by using a spinal needle without drugs administrated into intrathecal space directly in dural puncture epidural (DPE) analgesia.

Objective: This study aimed to summarize the evidence of benefits and risks of DPE analgesia with 25-G spinal needles for labor pain relief.

Methods: DPE analgesia with EP analgesia for labor pain relief were systematically searched.

Introduction: S-ketamine plays an important role in reducing postoperative pain, but its impact on the quality of recovery in breast cancer has not been clarified. We designed this trial to explore the effects of s-ketamine on the quality of postoperative recovery and inflammatory response in modified radical mastectomy.

Methods: A total of 138 patients were randomly assigned to group C (group control), group K1 (group of s-ketamine dose 1) and group K2 (group of s-ketamine dose 2).

The contraction/expansion laminar flow containing rodlike particles in power-law fluid is studied numerically when the particles are in a dilute phase. The fluid velocity vector and streamline of flow are given at the finite Reynolds number (Re) region. The effects of Re, power index and particle aspect ratio on the spatial and orientation distributions of particles are analyzed.

A system of emotion recognition and judgment (SERJ) based on a set of optimal signal features is established, and an emotion adaptive interactive game (EAIG) is designed. The change in a player's emotion can be detected with the SERJ during the process of playing the game. A total of 10 subjects were selected to test the EAIG and SERJ.

To explore the interaction mechanism of pseudo-lignin (PL) with cellulase and its influence on cellulose hydrolysis, different PLs were extracted from pretreated bamboo holocellulose (HC) using different organic solvents. Meanwhile, the real-time interaction of PL and cellulase was analyzed using surface plasmon resonance (SPR). The results showed that the extraction effect of the tetrahydrofuran and 1, 4-dioxane/water solution on PL was more effective than the ethanol/water solution.

Background: It is uncertain whether an association exists for decreases in driving pressure and the occurrence of postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) in patients undergoing selective lung resection surgery. Thus, we designed this study to determine whether the positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) titration to the lowest driving pressure compared with conventional low PEEP level during one-lung ventilation (OLV) in patients undergoing selective lung resection surgery decreases PPCs.

Methods: This single-centre, randomised trial approved by the Ethical Committee of the Sun Yat-Sen University Cancer Center involved patients who signed written consent.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection may affect all tissues and organs of the body. Little is known about the impact of this entity on its systematic incorporation in patients with gastric cancer (GC). This study enrolled a total of 113 GC patients with EBV infection (EBVaGC) and 167 GC patients without EBV infection (EBVnGC).

In this paper, the interactive application of data gloves based on emotion recognition and judgment system is investigated. A system of emotion recognition and judgment is established based on the set of optimal features of physiological signals, and then a data glove with multi-channel data transmission based on the recognition of hand posture and emotion is constructed. Finally, the system of virtual hand control and a manipulator driven by emotion is built.

Background: Curcumin has attracted much attention due to its wide range of therapeutic effects. In this study, we used serum collected from patients undergoing one-lung ventilation (OLV) to establish an in vitro acute lung injury (ALI) model to explore the potential protective mechanism of curcumin on ALI. Our study provides a new reference for the prevention and treatment of ALI induced by OLV.

To elucidate the structure-activity relationship between lignin and various cellulase domains, four lignin fractions with specific structures and molecular weight were prepared from bamboo kraft lignin (BKL) and used to investigate the adsorption mechanism between different cellulase domains by fluorescence spectroscopy and SDS-PAGE. Endo-cellulase 6B exhibited a higher affinity to BKL fractions than the carbohydrate-binding module (CBM4A) of cellulase, which is positively correlated to molecular weight. The thermodynamic mechanism showed that the adsorption between BKL fractions and endo-cellulase 6B was dominated by van der Waals and electrostatic forces, while hydrophobic force is the driver for BKL fractions to adsorb CBM4A.

()--chlorophenyl-1,2-ethanediol (CPED) is an important intermediate for the synthesis of ()-eliprodil that is widely applied in the treatment of ischemic stroke. To prepare ()-CPED with high enantiomeric excess ( ) and yield via the enantioconvergent hydrolysis of racemic styrene oxide (CSO) at high concentration, the bi-enzymatic catalysis was designed and investigated by a pair of epoxide hydrolases, a mutant (EH1) of EH1 and a mutant (EH) of EH Firstly, the maximum allowable concentration of -CSO was confirmed. Subsequently, the addition mode and the weight ratio of two cells were optimized.

As a valuable versatile building block, L-phenyllactic acid (L-PLA) has numerous applications in the fields of agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and biodegradable plastics. However, both normally chemically synthesized and naturally occurring PLA are racemic, and the production titer of L-PLA is not satisfactory. To improve L-PLA production and reduce the high cost of NADH, an coenzyme regeneration system of NADH was achieved using the glucose dehydrogenase variant GDH and introduced into the L-PLA production process.
