Incorporating perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) into poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) is an effective method to improve the performance of PVDF-based piezoelectric nanogenerators (PENGs). The conventional techniques are typically performed via a two-step process, namely, the synthesis of PNCs and then introducing them into the PVDF matrix. Here, we report the exploration of flexible PENG with boosted performance by in situ growth of Zr-doped CsAgNaInCl double perovskites (ZCDP) within the PVDF matrix (PENG).

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores how transpiration is influenced by soil moisture, root distribution, and stomatal behavior in two different karst habitats where two tree species coexist: Mallotus philippensis and Celtis biondii.
  • It was found that the rock-dominated (RD) habitat had significantly lower soil moisture than the soil-dominated (SD) habitat, impacting how each species transpired, with observations of species-specific water regulation traits.
  • M. philippensis exhibited lower transpiration due to its isohydric behavior and limited root distribution, while C. biondii, with deeper rooting and anisohydric behavior, was able to transpire more effectively due to greater access to water

Shikonin, derived from the herb Lithospermum erythrorhizon (Purple Cromwell), is extensively utilized in traditional Chinese medicine as an anti-inflammatory agent; however, its effect on the intestinal flora is not yet known. Herein, we demonstrate that, compared to a blank control group, the intragastric administration of shikonin suppressed the swelling rate of ears in a mouse model of acute inflammation in a dose-dependent manner via animal experiments; furthermore, the 20 mg/kg shikonin treatment exhibited the highest inhibitory effect. In formal animal experimentation, we discovered that the inhibitory effect of shikonin with 20 mg/kg on inflammation was closely linked to the intestinal flora, whereby the microbiota phylum was altered in feces through a 16S rDNA sequencing analysis, implying that shikonin improves gut microbiota structures and compositions to counteract inflammation.
