Article Synopsis
  • * A new strategy was developed using β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) to attach to cell membranes without harming membrane protein functions, creating a more efficient nanoparticle system.
  • * This approach leads to the synthesis of supramolecular cell membrane-magnetic nanoparticle conjugates (CDM@AMNPs), which have more active binding sites and improved performance for future nanomedical applications.

Article Synopsis
  • Escherichia coli O157:H7 is a significant threat to human health, and traditional ELISA tests lack the sensitivity needed for its detection.
  • A new method was created that enhances the detection of E. coli by utilizing a more efficient scaffold for alkaline phosphatase, resulting in improved fluorescence ELISA testing.
  • The new fluorescence ELISA showed a detection limit of 3.75 × 10 cfu/mL and performed 6.16 times better than traditional methods, making it suitable for identifying dangerous bacteria in milk samples.

A simple and rapid colorimetric method for the detection of melamine in milk samples is described. Polythymidine oligonucleotide was adsorbed on to the surface of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), protecting it from aggregation. In the presence of melamine, polythymidine oligonucleotide combined with melamine formed a double-strand DNA-like structure, allowing AuNPs aggregation.

The carrier dynamics of lead sulphide quantum dot (PbS QD) drop cast films and closely packed ordered Langmuir-Blodgett films are studied with ultra-fast femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy. The photo-induced carrier temperature is extracted from transient absorption spectra and monitored as a function of time delay. The cooling dynamics of carriers in PbS QDs suggest a reduction of the carrier energy loss rate at longer time delays through the retardation of the longitudinal optical (LO) phonon decay due to partial heating of acoustic phonon modes.
