Aberrant autophagy in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) is associated with the progression of vascular remodeling diseases caused by neointimal hyperplasia. Platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB)-induced vascular remodeling is accompanied by autophagy activation, however, the involvement of circular RNAs (circRNAs) remains unclear. Here, we show the role of PDGF-BB-regulated hsa_circ_0001304 (circ-1304) in neointimal hyperplasia and its potential involvement in VSMC autophagy, while also elucidating the potential mechanisms.

Scalp-electroacupuncture (scalp-EA) is an effective traditional Chinese medicine characteristic therapy for ischemic stroke and frequently employed in clinical practice, but there is still lack of normative standard of stimulation parameters. After searching the relevant articles, we summed up the stimulation parameters of scalp-EA for ischemic stroke from 5 aspects: 1) stimulating frequency (Low frequency is better when continuous waveform is used, and high frequency is better when dense-sparce waveform or discontinuous waveform employed), 2) waveform (Dense-sparce or discontinuous waves are better than continuous waves), 3) intensity (A tolerable stimulation strength may result in better outcomes), 4) needle retention time (In general, the needle retention time is 30 min, but still needing being determined), treatment course (Some studies showed that once a day EA for 3 continuous days is effective, 7 days, significantly effective, 14 days, further enhanced in the therapeutic effect), and 5) intervention time window (Generally, EA intervention within 6 h was mostly effective, shown by animal study). However, these parameters do not exist independently, and they can influence and interact with each other.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is an aging-associated form of dementia characterized by the pathological deposition of toxic misfolded proteins in the central nervous system (CNS), which is closely related to the clearance impairment of meningeal lymphatic vessels (mLVs). Thus, enhancement dural meningeal lymphatic drainage to remove amyloid-β (Aβ) is usually considered as a potential therapeutic target for AD.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the mechanisms of Jiawei Xionggui Decoction (JWXG) to attenuate cognitive dificits in APP/PS1 mice with impaired meningeal lymphatic drainage.

Article Synopsis
  • When a mouse observes a familiar female in pain, it displays various social behaviors like allolicking and huddling, with females showing more allolicking than males but less allogrooming.
  • The study found that changes in ovarian estrogen through ovariectomy affected these behaviors, reducing allolicking and altering self-grooming while diminishing the social support usually provided during pain.
  • Additionally, treatment with estrogen (but not progesterone) restored allolicking behaviors and confirmed that both caring behavior and the experience of socially transferred pain are influenced by estrogen levels.

Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease is closely correlated with elevated low density lipoprotein-cholesterol. In feeding state, glucose and insulin activate mammalian target of rapamycin 1 that phosphorylates the deubiquitylase ubiquitin-specific peptidase 20 (USP20). USP20 then stabilizes HMG-CoA reductase, thereby increasing lipid biosynthesis.

Herein, a versatile highly regioselective three-component annulation of simple aromatic ketones and methylamines using a hypervalent iodine reagent for polyarylated 1-pyrrolines has been described in good to excellent yields. Meanwhile, unsymmetrical 1-pyrroline isomers could be realized and synthesized. Such an intriguing one-pot two-step tandem assembly strategy with green conditions and high regioselectivity shows predictable inspiration in related annulation reactions.
