The grain boundary diffusion process employing a mixed diffusion source, comprising heavy rare-earth elements and low-melting metals, significantly enhances the coercivity (H) of sintered Nd-Fe-B magnets. In the present study, Tb and Ga were deposited onto the surface of Nd-Fe-B magnets to serve as a diffusion source for improving hard magnetic properties. The effects of varying deposition sequences of Tb and Ga on the magnetic properties and microstructure of the magnets were analyzed.

Aryl quinolone derivatives can target the cytochrome bc complex of Plasmodium falciparum, exhibiting excellent in vitro and in vivo antimalarial activity. However, their clinical development has been hindered due to their poor aqueous solubility profiles. In this study, a series of bioisosteres containing saturated heterocycles fused to a 4-pyridone ring were designed to replace the inherently poorly soluble quinolone core in antimalarial quinolones with the aim to reduce π-π stacking interactions in the crystal packing solid state, and a synthetic route was developed to prepare these alternative core derivatives.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy and mechanisms of cardio-cerebral stasis transforming medicines (CCSTM) against cerebral infarction (CI) and myocardial infarction (MI). CI modeling was conducted using the refined Longa suture-occluded technique, while MI modeling was accomplished through the occlusion of the anterior descending branch of the left coronary artery. We found that compared with the model groups, CCSTM decreased the infarct size in models of CI and MI in a dose-dependent manner.

The feasibility of soil washing for remediating PFAS-contaminated clay soil using various water-organic solvents was systematically investigated based on the combination of batch and column tests. Batch tests using 22 types of solvents highlighted that 0 % (water) and 5 % solvents could effectively extract PFCAs (≤ C9), while long-chain PFCAs (≥ C10) and PFSAs required 80 % solvents for optimal extraction, with efficiency in the order of EtOH ≤ MeOH < Acetonitrile (ACN), suggesting a strong correlation with carbon chain lengths and functional head groups. Column tests with six selected washing solutions indicated rapid desorption of PFOA and PFOS initially, peaking at liquid-to-solid (L/S) ratios of 3-4 for 0 % and 5 % solutions, and at an L/S ratio of 1 for 80 % solutions.

The fate and behavior of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in decentralized household wastewater treatment facilities (DHWWTFs) are unclear. In this study, targeting on a representative DHWWTF that receive all wastewater from a residential complex having 150 households, the transfer, elimination and accumulation of tetG, tetM, sul1, sul2 and intl1 were quantitively studied through real-time PCR-based quantification, mass balance evaluation and the existing state analysis based on size fractionation. Significant abundance changes of the genes were observed in involved biological reactions and the sedimentation process due to microbial growth and decomposition as well as the accumulation of the genes to sludge.

Lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs) with ultra-high energy density (2600 W h kg) and readily available raw materials are emerging as a potential alternative device with low cost for lithium-ion batteries. However, the insulation of sulfur and the unavoidable shuttle effect leads to slow reaction kinetics of LSBs, which in turn cause various roadblocks including poor rate capability, inferior cycling stability, and low coulombic efficiency. The most effective way to solve the issues mentioned above is to rationally design and control the synthesis of the cathode host for LSBs.

Elucidating the cellular organization of the cerebral cortex is critical for understanding brain structure and function. Using large-scale single-nucleus RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomic analysis of 143 macaque cortical regions, we obtained a comprehensive atlas of 264 transcriptome-defined cortical cell types and mapped their spatial distribution across the entire cortex. We characterized the cortical layer and region preferences of glutamatergic, GABAergic, and non-neuronal cell types, as well as regional differences in cell-type composition and neighborhood complexity.
