Parkinson's disease (PD), a common neurodegenerative disease, seriously impacts the quality of life of patients. In recent years, research has revealed that the GABAergic signaling pathway plays an important role in the occurrence and development of PD. GABA is an important inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system (CNS), synthesized through the alpha decarboxylation reaction of glutamate (Glu) under the action of glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) in GABAergic neurons.

Heavy metal pollution, particularly from copper (Cu)-based fungicides, has emerged as a major environmental issue. The extensive and frequent use of these fungicides in agriculture, coupled with their persistent residues on plant surfaces, necessitates a comprehensive evaluation of their effects on surrounding organisms. This study specifically targets Helicoverpa armigera larvae to systematically evaluate changes in their viability and ecological fitness in response to excessive Cu exposure by simulating field-relevant dosages of Cu-containing fungicides.

Background: Plasma beta-amyloid (Aβ) are important biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease and cognitive impairment (CI), but results are controversial. It remains unclear whether hypertension modulates their relationship. This cross-sectional study investigates whether hypertension moderates the relationship between plasma Aβ and cognitive impairment (CI).

The mechanism by which Wnt signaling, an essential pathway controlling development and disease, stabilizes β-catenin has been a subject of debate over the last four decades. Casein kinase 1α (CK1α) functions as a pivotal negative regulator of this signaling pathway, initiating the events that destabilize β-catenin. However, whether and how CK1α activity is regulated in Wnt-off and Wnt-on states remains poorly understood.

The first shikimic acid derived fluorescent carbon dots (SACNDs-FITC) for multi-modal detection and simultaneous removal of Hg is revealed. The fluorescence of SACNDs-FITC centered at 520 nm can be selectively quenched by Hg, while the emission centered at 420 nm remains constant which can be used for self-calibration. Naked-eye distinguishable color change from yellow to colourless under daylight and from green to blue under UV light could be observed for SACNDs-FITC in the real-time detection of Hg.

In this study, we designed a molecularly imprinted polymers-dispersive solid-phase extraction-high-performance liquid chromatography (MIPs-DSPE-HPLC) method, as a simple and efficient platform for the sensitive detection of two sulfonamide antibiotics (SAs) of sulfamethoxine (SMM) and sulfamethoxazole (SMZ) in environmental water samples. Using SMM and SMZ as templates, methacrylic acid as the functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as the crosslinking agent, and azodiisobutyronitrile as the catalyst, the dual-template molecularly imprinted polymers (dt-MIPs) were successfully synthesized via surface imprinting technology and multi-template imprinting strategy. The adsorption properties of the prepared MIPs were characterized, and the adsorption capacities of MIPs towards SMZ and SMM were 27.

Identifying the species and origin of adhesives in criminal investigations aids in narrowing inquiry scope and supporting case detection. This study introduces two advanced combined analytical techniques for distinguishing adhesive species, including attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) combined with Raman spectroscopy, and headspace gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry (HS-GC-IMS) together with multivariate statistical analysis. ATR-FTIR categorized seven adhesives into three groups based on the base materials, with further differentiation achieved via Raman spectra.

Streptococcus thermophilus (S. thermophilus) is a widely used starter culture in dairy fermentation, but most strains are galactose-negative and only metabolize glucose from lactose hydrolysis. In this study, we aimed to uncover the mechanisms underlying the acquisition of a stable galactose-positive (Gal) phenotype in a mutant strain of S.

The process of globalization and industrialization has resulted in a rise in the theft of coal and other related products, thereby becoming a focal point for forensic science. This situation has engendered an escalated demand for effective detection and monitoring technologies. The precise identification of coal trace evidence presents a challenge with current methods, owing to its minute quantity, fine texture, and intricate composition.

Homogenous advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) based on transition metal catalysts toward the activation of HO to hydroxyl radical (•OH) have been widely applied to organic pollutants removal, such as Fenton and Fenton-like processes. These transition metal catalysts mostly flocculate as the pH increases. It's worth noting that the formed transition metal flocs are complex heterogeneous aggregations with active substances, providing diverse reaction spaces and interfaces.

CD73, a cell surface-bound nucleotidase, serves as a crucial metabolic and immune checkpoint. Several studies have shown that CD73 is widely expressed on immune cells and plays a critical role in immune escape, cell adhesion and migration as a costimulatory molecule for T cells and a factor in adenosine production. However, recent studies have revealed that the protumour effects of CD73 are not limited to merely inhibiting the antitumour immune response.

Viscosity and polarity are essential parameters that play critical roles in various physiological processes. Thus, dual-emission fluorescent probes that respond to both polarity and viscosity are highly sought-after tools for studying these processes. In addressing this need, a novel fluorescent probe (L), with dual emissions centered at 460 nm and 780 nm, which can sensitively respond to polarity and viscosity respectively, has been developed.

Magnetic multi-template molecularly imprinted polymers (M-mt-MIPs) were successfully synthesized by surface imprinting and multi-template imprinting strategy, using polydopamine coated magnetic multi-walled carbon nanotubes as supporting materials, five typical chlorophenols (CPs) as templates, methacrylic acid as functional monomer and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as cross-linker. Compared to non-imprinted polymers (NIPs), the as-prepared M-mt-MIPs showed high adsorption capacity (32.58‒80.

Mycelium-based leather substitutes with a three-dimensional reticulated structure have attracted attention owing to the negative environmental impacts of natural and synthetic leather. This study utilised Ganoderma lucidum mycelium to prepare a mycelium-based leather substitute with zinc cross-linking (MF-Zn) and evaluated its physicochemical properties and sensory performance; the conventional Cr tanning method was used as reference. Results demonstrated that Zn and Cr formed cross-links with the -OH and -NHOCH groups in the polysaccharides of chitin, while Zn selectively bonded to a fraction of -NH groups in cystine and phenylalanine.

Most congenital heart defect (CHD) cases are attributed to nongenetic factors; however, the mechanisms underlying nongenetic factor-induced CHDs are elusive. Maternal diabetes is one of the nongenetic factors, and this study aimed to determine whether impaired mitochondrial fusion contributes to maternal diabetes-induced CHDs and if mitochondrial fusion activators, teriflunomide and echinacoside, could reduce CHD incidence in diabetic pregnancy. We demonstrated maternal diabetes-activated FoxO3a increases miR-140 and miR-195, which in turn represses Mfn1 and Mfn2, leading to mitochondrial fusion defects and CHDs.

Amino-functionalized silica@resorcinol-formaldehyde nanocomposites (NH-SiO@RF) were synthesized for the removal of Cr(VI) from aqueous solutions using the sol-gel technique with two simple preparation steps, including the one-pot synthesis of SiO@RF using the Stöber method and (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES) modification. The morphology, particle size, functional group, and thermal stability of the obtained nanocomposites were systematically characterized, with the results indicating a uniform sphericity with a particle size of 200 nm and high thermal stability. The adsorption results demonstrated that the preferred pH value was 2, and the data were well fitted with the Langmuir and Temkin isotherm models and quasi-second-order kinetic equation, indicating a high adsorption capacity.
