Rapid and ultrasensitive point-of-care RNA detection plays a critical role in the diagnosis and management of various infectious diseases. The gold-standard detection method of reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) is ultrasensitive and accurate yet limited by the lengthy turnaround time (1-2 days). On the other hand, an antigen test offers rapid at-home detection (typically ~15 min) but suffers from low sensitivity and high false-negative rates.

However, the structural characterization of MCM8/9 for DNA binding/unwinding remains unclear. Here, we report structures of the MCM8/9 complex using cryo-electron microscopy single particle analysis.

Increasing the weight ratio of oligomer in the resin system is an effective approach to enhance the mechanical properties, yet the viscosity of the UV-curable resin increases dramatically; this hinders its printing. In this study, a linear scan-based vat photopolymerization (LSVP) system which can print high-viscosity resins is implemented to 3D print the oligomer-dominated UV-curable resin via a dual-curing mechanism.

Chondrocyte senescence is an important mechanism underlying osteoarthritis in the senile population and is characterized by reduced expressions of the extracellular matrix proteins. The involvement of glycolysis and the tricarboxylic acid cycle in the development of osteoarthritis is inclusive. The present study aims to investigate the role of the glycolytic enzyme M2 isoform of pyruvate kinase (PKM2) in chondrocytes in senescence and inflammation.

Recently, air-stable 2D selenium nanosheet FETs with a gate length of 5 µm were experimentally produced. In this study, we used an ab initio quantum transport approach to simulate sub-5 nm gate-length double-gate monolayer (ML) selenene FETs.

Methods: The prenatal ultrasonic data of 88 heterotaxy syndrome fetuses were analyzed retrospectively as left isomerism (LI) and right isomerism (RI). Prenatal ultrasound compared with the anatomical casting of the fetal body after labor induction, and the confirmatory postnatal diagnosis after delivery.
The current printing mechanism of the bottom-up vat photopolymerization 3D printing technique places a high demand on the fluidity of the UV-curable resin. Viscous high-performance acrylate oligomers are compounded with reactive diluents accordingly to prepare 3D printable UV-curable resins (up to 5000 cps of viscosity), yet original mechanical properties of the oligomers are sacrificed. In this work, an elaborated designed linear scan-based vat photopolymerization system is developed, allowing the adoption of printable UV-curable resins with high viscosity (> 600,000 cps).

However, the best treatment for HSFs still remains controversial. We performed a network meta-analysis to explore which should be the best method for HSFs.

The high specific capacity and relatively low volume expansion of silicon suboxide (SiO) highlight its potential as one of the most promising anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. Nevertheless, the traditional binder of polyacrylic acid (PAA) still cannot adapt to enormous stress during the repeated volume expansion/contraction owing to its intrinsic rigid backbone. Inspired by the "soft and hard composite body armor", we herein design a double-wrapped binder consisting of PAA with a high internal Young's modulus (hard part) and polyurethane (DOU) with a low external Young's modulus (soft part).

Methods: A total of 26 AOFPA cases were retrospectively analyzed from January 2014 to January 2023. The features of the AOFPA were characterized by comparing the prenatal ultrasonic data with the results of anatomical casting after pregnancy termination or postnatal imaging and surgical intervention.
Aqueous zinc batteries are ideal candidates for grid-scale energy storage because of their safety and low-cost aspects. However, the production of large-format aqueous Zn batteries is hindered by electrolyte consumption, hydrogen gas evolution and accumulation, and Zn dendrites growth. To circumvent these issues, here we propose an "open" pouch cell design for large-format production of aqueous Zn batteries, which can release hydrogen gas and allow the refilling of the electrolyte components consumed during cell cycling.

Using the metabolomic, lifestyle, and heart failure data of the UK Biobank, we identified and validated healthy lifestyle-related metabolites in a matched case-control and cohort study, respectively. We then evaluated the association of healthy lifestyle-related metabolites with heart failure (HF) risk and the added predictivity of these healthy lifestyle-associated metabolites for HF.

Understanding the intrinsic essence for ideal ECL generation remains a fundamental challenge. Here, based on the molecular orbital theory, we reported an energy level engineering strategy to regulate the ECL performance by using ligand-protected gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) as luminophores and ,-diisopropylethylamine (DIPEA) as a coreactant.

Background: Results of previous studies about the prognostic roles of histone H4 lysine 16 acetylation (H4K16ac) and histone H4 lysine 20 trimethylation (H4K20me3) in breast cancer were inconsistent. Cellular experiments revealed the interplays between H4K16ac and H4K20me3, but no population study explored the interaction between them on the prognosis.
Methods: H4K16ac and H4K20me3 levels in tumors were evaluated by immunohistochemistry for 958 breast cancer patients.
To achieve long-term increases in soil organic carbon (SOC) storage, it is essential to understand the effects of carbon management strategies on SOC formation pathways, particularly through changes in microbial necromass carbon (MNC) and dissolved organic carbon (DOC). Using a 14-year field study, we demonstrate that both biochar and maize straw lifted the SOC ceiling, but through different pathways. Biochar, while raising SOC and DOC content, decreased substrate degradability by increasing carbon aromaticity.

In this study, we propose a novel method for the detection of aflatoxin B (AFB) using a dual-signal readout approach within a unified system. This method employs dual channel modes, namely visual fluorescence and weight measurements, as the signal readouts.

Naturally-derived aerogels have attracted considerable attention owing to their good biocompatibility, biodegradability and sustainability, but their weak mechanical properties largely limit their applications in various fields. Herein, we proposed the use of a directional freeze-drying method to prepare an anisotropic honeycomb three-dimensional porous aerogel with water-soluble chitosan (CS) as a rigid skeleton and water-soluble biobased epoxy resin as cross-linked hard segments, which had low volume shrinkage and density of 13.9 % and 34.

Objective: To investigate the correlation between early-stage blood pressure indexes and prognosis in sepsis patients.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted on the medical records of patients diagnosed with sepsis from 2001 to 2012 in the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care-III (MIMIC-III) database. Patients were divided into survival group and death group according to the 28-day prognosis.
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is widely used to relieve symptoms of menopause with proven efficacy. However, there has been significant controversy surrounding the use of HRT because of its potential link with an increased risk of cancer, particularly female reproductive organ cancers. That HRT increases the risk of melanoma is also disputed, and several cohort studies have produced variable results.

The effect of ultrasonic treatment on emulsifying properties of wheat germ protein (WGP) was studied in this paper. WGP was subjected to low frequency (20 kHz), high intensity ultrasonic treatment at different power (200, 400, 600, 800 W) for 10 min, or different time (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 15, 20 min) at 400 W. The emulsifying activity index and emulsion stability index of WGP were significantly improved, and the emulsion droplet was smaller and more uniform after ultrasound treatment.
