Background: The evolution of NAFLD, MAFLD, and MASLD underscores significant advancements and nomenclatural shifts in the realm of chronic liver disorders. This study primarily aimed to investigate the possible link between serum selenium levels and the occurrence of MASLD.
Methods: Utilizing data from NHANES for the years 2017 through 2020, we performed an in-depth analysis.
Background: Maxillary canine impaction can result in malocclusion, temporomandibular joint complications, and esthetic concerns, thus influencing craniofacial development. Although cases of impacted canines are not uncommon in clinical practice, the likelihood of simultaneous bilateral impaction is extremely low; very few reports have documented cases of bilaterally symmetrical, inversely impacted canines.
Case Presentation: This paper reports a rare case of maxillary canine impaction, a condition characterized by the abnormal eruption of teeth.
Infectious intestinal diseases (IIDs) pose a significant health and economic burden worldwide. Recent observations at the Tri-Service General Hospital, Taiwan, suggest a potential association between IIDs and neurodegenerative diseases, prompting an investigation into this relationship. This study explored interactions between IIDs and neurodegenerative diseases.

However, the updated Sensititre YeastOne (SYO) version YO10C excluded species for susceptibility testing. Uncorrelation of antifungal susceptibility patterns by SYO and therapeutic outcomes had been recently reported.

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of anti-severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccines in preventing the post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC), commonly known as long COVID, and reducing all-cause mortality among older patients. A retrospective cohort study was conducted using the TriNetX database. The study cohort consisted of older patients (age ≥ 65 years) with their first COVID-19 illness between January 1, 2022, and May 31, 2024.

While certain anti-seizure medications have been linked to urinary tract infections, limited information exists on the occurrence and risk factors of asymptomatic bacteriuria (ASB) in individuals with epilepsy. This study aims to investigate the prevalence and factors associated with ASB in patients with epilepsy.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAmorphous oxide semiconductors (AOS) are pivotal for next-generation electronics due to their high electron mobility and excellent optical properties. However, InO, a key material in this family, encounters significant challenges in balancing high mobility and effective switching as its thickness is scaled down to nanometer dimensions. The high electron density in ultra-thin InO hinders its ability to turn off effectively, leading to a critical trade-off between mobility and the on-current (I)/off-current (I) ratio.

Herein, a multifunctional DNA nanoassembly (RCA product-aptamer-DNAzyme, RAD) was constructed for cancer cell detection and targeted delivery of doxorubicin (DOX) and DNAzyme. Briefly, the rolling circle amplification (RCA) product was employed as a scaffold, and each repeated sequence was designed to combine with three single-stranded DNA (ssDNA), which carried the aptamer AS1411 sequence, fluorescent group, and DNAzyme sequence, respectively.

This study investigates the effectiveness of a preventative approach using intermediate-dose prophylaxis with standard half-life FVIII products in reducing bleeding rates and enhancing the quality of life for patients with severe HA.
Methods: A 4-year prospective longitudinal study followed 35 patients with severe HA (without FVIII inhibitors) who transitioned from a reactive treatment approach to intermediate-dose prophylaxis in Taiwan from 2014 until 2018.
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is one of the most frequent forms of acute leukemia and the second most common leukemia subtype in adults. In 2020, the incidence of AML in the United States was estimated to be ~4 cases per 100,000 adults. The FMS-like tyrosine kinase 3 () internal tandem duplication (ITD) and tyrosine kinase domain (TKD) mutation are major prognostic indicators of AML.

Septic lung injury is strongly associated with polarization of M1 macrophages and excessive cytokine release. Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signaling plays a role in both processes. However, the impact of FGF2 deficiency on macrophage polarization and septic acute lung injury remains unclear.

Hepatoma up-regulated protein (HURP), a microtubule-associated protein displaying heightened expression across various cancer types, reduces cancer cells' sensitivity to vinca-alkaloid drugs upon overexpression. However, the molecular basis behind this drug resistance remains unknown.

However, it is a challenge to efficiently manufacture soft robots with complex functions. In recent years, 3D printing technology has greatly improved the efficiency and flexibility of manufacturing soft robots.

Singlet fission (SF), as an effective way to break through the Shockley-Queisser limit, can dramatically improve energy conversion efficiency in solar cell areas. The formation, separation, and relaxation of triplet-pair excitons directly affect the triplet yield, especially triplet-pair separation; thus, how to enhance the triplet-pair separation rate becomes one of the key points to improve SF efficiency; the decay mechanism where the singlet state is converted into two triplet states is significant for the study of the SF mechanism. Herein, we employ ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy to study the singlet-fission process of nano-amorphous 6, 13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl)-Pentacene (TIPS-pentacene) films in a diamond anvil cell (DAC).

In this study, citric acid was incorporated into the synthesis process of NiFe-LDH, resulting in the NiFe-LDH-CA catalyst with superior OER performance. The catalytic efficacy was evaluated using linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), which demonstrated a significant reduction in the overpotential for OER from 320 mV to 240 mV at a current density of 100 mA cm.

Both chemotherapy (CT) and endocrine therapy (ET) play important roles in the systemic treatment of breast cancer (BC). However, previous studies have shown an antagonistic effect when CT and ET are administered simultaneously. Therefore, sequential administration is more effective than combined administration.

This study aimed to estimate the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in adults diagnosed with obesity, with or without CHM.
Methods: Patients with obesity aged 18 to 50 years were identified using diagnostic codes from Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database between 2008 and 2018.
Dimerization of delocalized polycyclic hydrocarbon radicals is a simple and versatile method to create diradicals with tailored electronic structures and accessible high-spin states. However, the synthesis is challenging, and the stability issue of the diradicals remains a concern. In this study, we present the synthesis of a stable non-Kekulé 1,1'-biolympicenyl diradical using a protection-oxidation-protection strategy.

Objectives: This study evaluated the treatment preferences among patients and caregivers for moderate or severe hemophilia A in Taiwan.
Methods: This cross-sectional study used a discrete choice experiment approach to assess treatment preferences among patients with hemophilia A and their caregivers. Respondents chose between 2 hypothetical treatments defined by 7 attributes including no bleeding episode, treated events of joint bleeding, long-term safety, type of treatment and risk of thromboembolic events, administration frequency, consumption route, and monitoring dosing options.
