The recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after minimally invasive therapy is frequent. Adoptive immunotherapy is thought to be an effective method to lower recurrence and metastasis rates of malignant tumors. Therefore, 85 HCC patients after transcatheter arterial chemoembolization and radiofrequency ablation therapy were randomized to immunotherapy group and no adjuvant therapy group.

Objective: To examine expression of PTEN gene in ovarian cancer cisplatin-sensitive cell line OV2008 cells and cisplatin-resistant cell line C13K cells, and evaluate the effect of wild-type PTEN gene on reversing cisplatin-resistance of C13K cells and underlying mechanisms.
Methods: The expression of PTEN mRNA and protein in OV2008 and C13K cells were detected by semi-quantitative RT-PCR and western blot. Recombinant eukaryotic expression plasmid containing human wild-type PTEN gene was transfected into C13K cells by lipofectamine 2000.
Two novel lanthanide-organic frameworks (LnOFs) with (4(10),6(5))(4(9),6(6)) topology, [Ln(Hbptc)(H(2)O)](n) (Ln = Eu(1), Gd(2); H(4)bptc = 3,3',4,4'-biphenyltetracarboxylic acid) were synthesized via the hydrothermal in situ reaction between lanthanide salts and 3,3',4,4'-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (bpta) under low pH conditions. In complexes 1 and 2, homohelix bundles with opposite chirality are assembled alternately and result in pillar-like 3D extended networks incorporated with coordinated water molecules, which show high thermal stability. The luminescence properties are illustrated by the Eu(III) complex (1) and its Gd-doped compound, which are intensive red emitters.

Methods: In present study, we investigated Bmi-1 expression and its prognostic significance in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) by performing immunohistochemical analysis, using a total of 137 HCC clinical tissue samples.
Results: High Bmi-1 expression (Bmi-1 2+ or 3+) was shown in 29.
Purpose: Previous poor results of liver transplantation (LT) have been confirmed in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Adenovirus-mediated delivery of herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase (ADV-TK) therapy is an established adjuvant treatment in cancer, and we evaluated its potential as an adjuvant treatment for HCC patients who underwent LT.
Experimental Design: Forty-five HCC patients with tumors >5 cm in diameter participated in the study over a follow-up period of 50 months.
The aim of this study was to clarify the function of non-homologous end-joining (NHEJ) in tumorigenesis and chemoresistance, and to explore the potential of DNA-PK as a target of reversal of chemoresistance and enhancing the sensitivity of cells to chemotherapeutic agents. Plasmid vectors pSIREN-Ku70shRNA and pSIREN-DNA-PKcssh-RNA, which coded small interfering RNA of Ku70 and DNA-PKcs, were constructed and transfected into human cervical cancer cell line HeLa. The relationship between the down-regulation of Ku70 or DNA-PKcs and tumor cell proliferation and the sensitivity of cells to chemotherapeutic agents were analyzed.

However, the signal transduction mechanisms underlying K+ channel-dependent tumor cell proliferation or apoptosis remains elusive. Using HeLa and A2780 cells as study models, we tested the hypothesis that apoptotic proteins are linked with K+ channel-dependent tumor cell cycle and apoptosis.

Precision telescopic attachments allow for rigid connection between removable prostheses and abutments. However, it is still unknown whether implants can bear similar long-term loading forces as teeth when telescopic crowns are used as retention devices. It was the aim of this prospective clinical study to observe maxillary removable partial dentures that were retained by telescopic crowns on two endosseous implants in the canine regions.

In the present study, we investigated whether MC-LR stimulated ROS generation in the liver of mice and the role of ROS in the pathogenesis of MC-LR-induced liver injury in vivo. MC-LR treatment (60 microg/kg of body weight) for 12h prompted large amount of ROS generation in mice liver, upregulated the expression of Bax and Bid, caused the mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) loss and hepatocyte apoptosis as well as liver injury.

Background: Changes to TNM staging criteria for breast cancer, introduced in 2003, have resulted in stage re-classification for some tumors. The most frequently implemented change has resulted in tumors associated with more than three positive axillary nodes being upstaged. We hypothesize these TNM staging changes would result in more TNM Stage IIB, IIIA, and IIIB tumors and that disease-specific survival estimates would change under the new staging system.

Therefore, the accuracy of HER2 status is essential to determine which patients should or should not receive Herceptin. Although HER2 results obtained by FISH and IHC are often in agreement, there is a persistent group of cases in which results are discordant, particularly among tumors with intermediate results.
