Objectives: To evaluate the following: (1) baseline knowledge, attitudes, and behavioral intentions about Medicaid managed care (MMC) among seniors and people with disabilities (SPD) receiving Medicaid benefits; (2) SPD Medicaid beneficiaries' use of and satisfaction with a user-designed MMC guidebook; and (3) guidebook effects on changes in MMC knowledge, attitudes, and intended behaviors of SPD beneficiaries.

Data Sources/study Setting: Survey data collected between February and May 2008 from a random sample of SPD receiving Medicaid benefits in three California counties.

Study Design: This randomized controlled trial of 319 intervention and 373 control SPD Medicaid beneficiaries used pre- and postintervention telephone surveys to compare changes in MMC knowledge, attitudes, and intended behaviors.

Objectives: There is a critical need for effective, large-scale health communication programs to support parents of children aged 0-5 years. We evaluated the effectiveness of the Kit for New Parents, a multimedia health and parenting resource now distributed annually to 500000 parents in California.

Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, 462 mothers in the intervention group and 1011 mothers in the comparison group, recruited from prenatal and postnatal programs, completed a baseline interview about health-relevant parenting knowledge, and mothers in the intervention group received the kit.

Public health leadership development programs have proliferated since the release of the Institute of Medicine's call for strengthened public health leadership. Little has been documented, however, about the impact of these programs. This article presents results of an eight-year retrospective evaluation of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/University of California Public Health Leadership Institute, the nation's first year-long leadership development program serving senior public health leaders.
