Purpose: Despite vaccination, many patients remain vulnerable to COVID-19 infection and poorer outcomes, because of underlying health conditions resulting in sub-optimal vaccine responses. This study aims to demonstrate whether intranasal niclosamide confers additional protection against COVID-19 infection above standard preventative measures including vaccination.
Methods: PROTECT-V (PROphylaxis for paTiEnts at risk of COVID-19 infecTion) is a platform trial testing multiple pre-exposure COVID-19 prophylactic agents in vulnerable patients.
Traditionally, patients with asymptomatic, advanced-stage follicular lymphoma were managed with a watchful-waiting approach until disease progression. The 'Watch and Wait' Phase-3 randomised international trial examined whether rituximab could delay the need for treatment and the effect on quality of life (QoL). In this article, we present the long-term results of the QoL aspect of the trial.

Untreated, 50-60% patients with FSGS progress to end stage kidney disease after 5 years. These diseases respond to immunosuppression with high dose glucocorticoids, but 75% will relapse as the glucocorticoids are withdrawn, leading to significant morbidity associated with prolonged use.

Methods: We designed a multicentre, prospective surgical cohort study (GALA-BIDD) to validate the presence of visible fluorescence as a pragmatic intraoperative surgical biomarker of suspected high-grade disease within a tumour mass in patients undergoing 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) fluorescence-guided cytoreductive surgery.
Results: A total of 106 patients with a suspected high-grade glioma or malignant transformation of a low-grade glioma were enrolled.
Purpose: To detect early response to sunitinib treatment in metastatic clear cell renal cancer (mRCC) using multiparametric MRI.
Method: Participants with mRCC undergoing pre-surgical sunitinib therapy in the prospective NeoSun clinical trial (EudraCtNo: 2005-004502-82) were imaged before starting treatment, and after 12 days of sunitinib therapy using morphological MRI sequences, advanced diffusion-weighted imaging, measurements of R2* (related to hypoxia) and dynamic contrast-enhanced imaging. Following nephrectomy, participants continued treatment and were followed-up with contrast-enhanced CT.
Objective: To explore translational biological and imaging biomarkers for sunitinib treatment before and after debulking nephrectomy in the NeoSun (European Union Drug Regulating Authorities Clinical Trials Database [EudraCT] number: 2005-004502-82) single-centre, single-arm, single-agent, Phase II trial.
Patients And Methods: Treatment-naïve patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) received 50 mg once daily sunitinib for 12 days pre-surgically, then post-surgery on 4 week-on, 2 week-off, repeating 6-week cycles until disease progression in a single arm phase II trial. Structural and dynamic contrast-enhanced magnet resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) and research blood sampling were performed at baseline and after 12 days.
Objective: Thiopurines are widely used as maintenance therapy in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) but the evidence base for their use is sparse and their role increasingly questioned. Using the largest series reported to date, we assessed the long-term effectiveness of thiopurines in ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD), including their impact on need for surgery.
Design: Outcomes were assessed in 11 928 patients (4968 UC, 6960 CD) in the UK IBD BioResource initiated on thiopurine monotherapy with the intention of maintaining medically induced remission.
