Background: MELAS (Mitochondrial Encephalomyopathy, Lactic Acidosis, and Stroke-like episodes) is a common subtype of mitochondrial encephalomyopathy. However, few studies have explored the relationship between biochemical markers and prognosis. This study aimed to explore the relationship between clinical and biochemical markers and prognosis of patients with MELAS.

Aims: We aimed to measure serum insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) levels in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients and assess their correlation with non-motor symptoms (NMS).

Background: Emerging evidence suggests that abnormal levels of IGF-1 play a crucial role in the development of PD.

Objective: Further systematic research is needed to explore the potential roles of abnormal IGF-1 levels in NMS of PD.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is often absent or at low levels in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of patients with previous SARS-CoV-2-associated Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS). This has led to speculation that SARS-CoV-2-associated GBS is more likely mediated by post-infectious immunity or a parainfection. This understanding has influenced the development of treatment regimens for SARS-CoV-2-associated GBS.

Objective: Stroke is the leading cause of mortality and disability worldwide. However, there is no study on the relationship between red blood cell distribution width and the prognosis of small artery occlusion, which is a stroke subtype. This study aimed to assess the association of red blood cell distribution width at admission with outcomes among patients with small artery occlusion.

Background: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been reported to serve pivotal roles in tumorigenesis. This study sough to assess the expression and clinical significance of microRNA-1298 (miR-1298) in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and explore the functional role of miR-1298 in tumorigenesis.

Methods: One hundred and twenty-one NSCLC patients were recruited in this study.

Both nerve growth factor (NGF) and heme oxygenases-1 (HO-1) promotes neuron survival from cerebral ischemic lesions. NGF protects neurons from oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD), and HO-1 expression can be induced by some growth factors like NGF. This work attempted to identify the contribution of HO-1 on the neuroprotection role of NGF in OGD model, which is an injury simulation of ischemic neuron in vitro.
