High-entropy materials (HEMs) are extremely popular for electrochemical energy storage nowadays. However, the detailed effects of four core factors of high entropy on the electrochemical properties of HEMs are still unclear. Here, a high-entropy LaCePrNdNbO (HE-LaNbO) oxide is prepared through multiple rare-metal-ion substitution in LaNbO, and uses HE-LaNbO as a model material to systematically study the effects of the four core factors of high entropy on electrochemical energy-storage materials.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the characteristics and treatment outcomes of patients with gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN) who initially present with lung lesions and high hCG levels but without visible pelvic lesions.
  • The analysis included 40 patients from a larger group of 2358, revealing that most had solitary lung tumors, primarily epithelioid trophoblastic tumors (ETT), and those treated with only chemotherapy faced higher recurrence rates.
  • It concludes that surgical removal of lung lesions is critical, and if chemotherapy is used, it should involve a multidrug approach to reduce the risk of relapse.

  • Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PanNETs) show a wide range of invasiveness, and existing genomic knowledge sheds some light on this variability, especially between different types like insulinomas and other PanNET variants.
  • Researchers used a 2D classification system based on RNA sequencing of PanNETs from both mouse models and humans to categorize these tumors primarily into benign insulinomas and various invasive subtypes.
  • By integrating the 2D classification, specific mutation status (DAXX/ATRX), and tumor size, they identified a subset of PanNETs with low recurrence risk, helping to clarify the complexity of these tumors and enhance their prognostic evaluation.

The diagnosis of solid pseudopapillary neoplasm of the pancreas (SPN) can be challenging due to potential confusion with other pancreatic neoplasms, particularly pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), using current pathological diagnostic markers. We conducted a comprehensive analysis of bulk RNA sequencing data from SPNs, NETs, and normal pancreas, followed by experimental validation. This analysis revealed an increased accumulation of peroxisomes in SPNs.

Prostate cancer detected by autopsy is named latent prostate cancer. As the repertoire of clinical prostate cancer, latent cancer may better reflect the disease burden. Unlike clinical prostate specimens, which are obtained exclusively from biopsy-positive cases, prostate specimens obtained through autopsy provide information on biopsy-negative cases, helping calculate the true sensitivity of prostate biopsy.

To tackle microbial contamination and spoilage during pork storage, transportation, and sales, a novel packaging film with exogenously driven controlled release behavior was designed through the demand-directed preparation of the emulsion of shellac-encapsulated cinnamaldehyde nano-capsules (SNCs) and the ingenious integration of chitosan (CS) film matrix. Among them, the SNCs were synthesized using the solvent exchange method, allowing controlled release of cinnamaldehyde (CA) in response to volatile alkaline substances present in the meat. The electrostatic interaction between SNCs and CS molecules improved the thermal stability, water resistance, tensile strength, and viscosity of the film-forming solution, while the CA in SNCs enhanced UV resistance and antimicrobial properties of the film.

Pancreatic cancer is a highly lethal form of malignancy that continues to pose a significant and unresolved health challenge. Doublecortin-like kinase 1 (DCLK1), a serine/threonine kinase, is found to be overexpressed in pancreatic cancer and holds promise as a potential therapeutic target for this disease. However, few potent inhibitors have been reported currently.

Rapid decrease in antibacterial efficacy of existing active packages is difficult to promisingly prevent microbial infection during the storage of perishable products. Here, we pioneered an advanced ZnO-doped hollow carbon-encapsulated curcumin (ZHC-Cur)-chitosan (CS) slow-release film (ZHC-Cur-CS) with "nano-barricade" structure through demand-oriented tailoring of the structure and components of zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) carrier. Such an exquisite structure realized the effective sustained release of Curcumin through the dual complexity of diffusion pathway by the disordered hierarchical pore structure and steric hindrance.

Niobate Li -storage anode materials with shear ReO crystal structures have attracted intensive attention due to their inherent safety and large capacities. However, they generally suffer from limited rate performance, cyclic stability, and temperature adaptability, which are rooted in their insufficient interlayer spacings. Here, sodium niobate (NaNb O ) micron-sized particles are developed as a new anode material owning the largest interlayer spacing among the known shear ReO -type niobates.

Niobates are very promising anode materials for Li-storage rooted in their good safety and high capacities. However, the exploration of niobate anode materials is still insufficient. In this work, we explore ~1 wt% carbon-coated CuNbO microparticles (C-CuNbO) with a stable shear ReO structure as a new anode material to store Li.

Article Synopsis
  • Ectopic secretion of parathyroid hormone (PTH) can cause hypercalcemia, a rare occurrence in patients with cancer, as demonstrated in a 56-year-old woman with endometrial carcinoma.
  • The patient's life-threatening hypercalcemia was linked to PTH production by the tumor, and was alleviated following cytoreductive surgery (CRS) that confirmed the cancer as MMR-deficient.
  • Despite chemotherapy and immunotherapy, the woman's condition worsened, leading to multiple organ failure and her death roughly five months after the surgery, marking a unique case of hypercalcemia from a specific type of cancer with an unusual complication.

Kras-activating mutations display the highest incidence in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. Pancreatic inflammation accelerates mutant Kras-driven tumorigenesis in mice, suggesting high selectivity in the cells that oncogenic Kras transforms, although the mechanisms dictating this specificity are poorly understood. Here we show that pancreatic inflammation is coupled to the emergence of a transient progenitor cell population that is readily transformed in the presence of mutant KrasG12D.

In the present study, the fatigue life and fatigue fracture characteristics of annealed 7005 aluminum alloy plates subjected to different pre-tensile deformations were investigated. The results obtained upon increasing the pre-tensile deformation of the alloy plate to 20% revealed that the second-phase particles did not show any obvious changes, and that the thickness of the thin strip grain slightly decreased. The dislocation distribution in the alloy matrix varied significantly among the grains or within each grain as the dislocation density gradually increased with increasing pre-tensile deformation.
