Co-contamination of heavy metals and chlorobenzenes (CBs) presents a significant environmental challenge, yet the impact of metal ions on CB biodegradation remains unclear. This study investigates the effects of Cd²⁺, Hg²⁺, Zn²⁺, and Fe³⁺ on the CB degradation ability of strain TF-2. The results indicate that metal ions inhibit CB biodegradation, with the most pronounced inhibitory effects observed at concentrations of 10.

As a crucial member of the gene family involved in the biosynthesis of strigolactones, plays an important regulatory role in plant branching and root development, which is essential for field management and yield increase in peppers ( L.). To comprehensively understand the characteristics of the pepper gene family, we identified three genes.

Imbibition of fracturing fluid in deep shale nanopores has a significant effect on shale gas production. One of the key parameters affecting imbibition is the interfacial tension of the methane-water system. However, studies on the methane-water interfacial tension in nanopores are very limited, and obtaining the accurate value of the methane-water interfacial tension at the nanoscale is difficult and time-consuming.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the connection between anatomical variations and the occurrence of antrochoanal polyp (ACP), aiming to clarify its unclear etiology.
  • It analyzes data from 127 patients with unilateral ACPs, assessing parameters like maxillary sinus volume and nasal anatomy through 3DSlicer software.
  • Significant findings include differences in maxillary sinus measurements between the affected and non-affected sides, with larger volumes and specific anatomical lengths linked with the presence of ACP, particularly notable in males and children.

Objectives: Nasal polyp (NP) and inverted papilloma (IP) are two common types of nasal masses. And their differentiation is essential for determining optimal surgical strategies and predicting outcomes. Thus, we aimed to develop several radiomic models to differentiate them based on computed tomography (CT)-extracted radiomic features.

Vegetation root exudates have the ability to shape soil microbial community structures, thereby enhancing CH bio-oxidation capacity in landfill cover systems. In this study, the CH oxidation capacity of indigenous vegetation rhizosphere microorganisms within operational landfill covers in Chongqing, China, was investigated for the first time, with the objective of identifying suitable plant candidates for CH mitigation initiatives within landfill cover systems. Furthermore, a multi-omics methodology was employed to explore microbial community structures and metabolic variances within the rhizospheric environment of diverse vegetation types.

Due to its large specific surface area and great hydrophobicity, microplastics can adsorb polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), affecting the bioavailability and the toxicity of PAHs to plants. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of D550 and D250 (with diameters of 550 μm and 250 μm) microplastics on phenanthrene (PHE) removal from soil and PHE accumulation in maize (Zea mays L.).

The widespread occurrence of bisphenol A (BPA), a typical endocrine-disrupting compound, poses potential threat to ecosystem and public health. Carotenoids are essential natural pigments, playing important roles in photosynthesis and antioxidant defense of plants. This study aimed to verify the value of carotenoids in enhancing plant tolerance to BPA stress and improving phytoremediation efficiency of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.

China is accelerating green and low-carbon transformation and promoting high-quality economic development. To effectively contribute to the improvement of global environmental quality and enhance enterprises' awareness of environmental responsibility in the process of outbound investment, China strongly advocates that enterprises should comply with the environmental protection laws and regulations of host countries and try to strengthen local environmental protection as investing abroad. However, inadequate attention has been paid to the factors influencing green preferences in corporate outbound investment.

As an important corporate governance mechanism, directors' and officers' liability insurance is theoretically associated with corporate financialization because it directly affects incentive constraints and risk preference of enterprise managers. However, whether there is a causal relationship in fact has not been sufficiently empirically investigated. Using a sample of Chinese non-financial listed companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen A-shares from 2008 to 2020, this paper empirically analyzes how corporate subscription to directors' and officers' liability (D&O) insurance affects corporate financialization and examines the mediating role played by risk-taking, financing constraints, and audit quality.

The coexistence of di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), Cd, and Zn poses a serious challenge to soil ecosystems. This study aimed to evaluate the phytoremediation potential of rice assisted with a plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) consortium for the remediation of DEHP, Cd, and Zn co-contaminated soil. The consortium consisted of four bacterial strains, all of which exhibited Cd-Zn resistance and DEHP degradability.

Benzophenone-3 (BP-3) is an emerging environmental pollutant used in personal care products, helping to reduce the risk of ultraviolet radiation to human skin. The BP-3 removal potential from soil by tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) assisted with Methylophilus sp. FP-6 was explored in our previous study.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an emerging organic pollutant, widely distributed and frequently detected in soil in recent years. BPA toxicity is a problem that needs to be solved in terms of both human health and agricultural production. Up to now, the toxic effect of BPA and its mechanism of action on plants, as well as the possibility of using plants to remediate BPA-contaminated soil, remain to be explored.

Cadmium (Cd) and zinc (Zn) in contaminated soil inhibit rice yield and produce toxic effects on human body through rice accumulation. Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) assisted phytoremediation is an effective ecological measure to improve the remediation efficiency of heavy metal contaminated soil. The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficiency of the combination of rice and Cd/Zn-tolerant PGPR strain Bacillus sp.

Article Synopsis
  • Postoperative delirium (POD) affects elderly patients after surgery, and effective pain management, like Thoracic Paravertebral Block (TPVB), can help reduce its occurrence.* -
  • A study with 338 elderly patients showed that those receiving TPVB experienced less POD (16.5%) compared to those receiving standard pain management (28%), and had better overall recovery at day 7.* -
  • The findings suggest TPVB not only lowers POD risk but also may reduce inflammation, making it a more effective option for pain relief and recovery in this age group.*

This study aimed (i) to complement existing research by focusing on body image disturbance issues in Chinese Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) patients; (ii) to investigate how Chinese patients make sense of disease diagnosis and perceived cultural influences within the context of their SLE. A total of 118 SLE patients underwent standardized laboratory examinations and completed several questionnaires. Independent sample t-test, Mann-Whitney U-test, Chi-square test, and multivariate analysis using backward stepwise logistic regression model were used to analyze these data.
