Emerging evidence suggests that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) serve a key role in malignant transformation, tumor progression and metastasis. Increased expression of lncRNA p53 upregulated regulator of P53 levels (PURPL) has been reported to promote tumorigenicity in colorectal cancer; however, the role and potential mechanisms of PURPL in the development of liver cancer remain unclear. We employed reverse transcription‑quantitative polymerase chain reaction to detect PURPL and p53 mRNA expression in liver cancer tissues and cell lines.

Increasing risk of congenital anomalies associated with seasonal pattern of air pollution: Differences by maternal comorbidities.

To interpret the relationship of the seasonal pattern of air pollution exposure associated with increased risk of congenital anomalies (CA) and the trimester-specific effects. In this work, 55,428 hospital records with 847 doctor-diagnosed CA from July 2013 to December 2016 were collected in Hohhot, China. Maternal exposure to critical air pollutants (SO, CO, PM, O, NO and PM) were estimated using an inverse distance weighted (IDW) method on the basis of the ambient air quality monitoring stations.

A feasible study on using multiplexed sensitivity-encoding to reduce geometric distortion in diffusion-weighted echo planar imaging.

Purpose: Single-shot (SS) echo planar imaging (EPI) is commonly used for diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in radiation treatment planning. The geometric distortion of single-shot diffusion-weighted EPI (SS-DWEPI) limits its utility in precision radiotherapy. We aimed to investigate the use of multiplexed sensitivity-encoding DWEPI (MUSE-DWEPI) to reduce the geometric distortions to allow its use in brain radiotherapy.

Background: In cell-based therapy, the transmission of communicable diseases imposes a substantial threat to recipients. In this study, we investigated whether cell-based screening could detect hepatitis B virus (HBV) in human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (HUMSCs) isolated from HBV-infected donors to understand the susceptibility of HUMSCs to HBV infection.

Methods: HBV assay was performed in HUMSCs derived from healthy and HBV-infected donors with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), fluorescence quantitative PCR (FQ-PCR) assay, and droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) assay.

Uptake and Transport Mechanism of Dihydromyricetin Across Human Intestinal Caco-2 Cells.

The aim of this study was to investigate the uptake and transport mechanism of DMY in human intestinal Caco-2 cells. DMY was detected using a liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method.

[Clinical Efficacy of Decitabine-Based Chemotherapy Regimens in the Treatment of Newly Diagnosed Elderly Patients with Acute Myeloid Leukemia].

Objective: To investigate the safety and efficacy of decitabine combined with CAG regimen in the treat-ment of newly diagnosed elderly patients with acute myeloid leukemia(AML).

Methods: Fourty-nine patients with newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (except M3) who were admitted to our hospital were selected. All the patients were older than 50 years old, and allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation could not be performed for various reasons.

An Isolable Diphosphene Radical Cation Stabilized by Three-Center Three-Electron π-Bonding with Chromium: End-On versus Side-On Coordination.

Two salts (2 and 4) containing the radical cations of complexed diphosphenes have been isolated and characterized by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The P-P bond is coordinated to the Cr center either in an end-on (in 2) or a side-on (in 4) fashion. The spin density of the radical is delocalized over the Cr atom and the two P atoms in 2 whereas the unpaired electron is mainly localized on the Cr atom in 4.

Forkhead box N1 (FOXN1) belongs to the FOX family of transcription factors, which comprises a diverse group of winged-helix proteins. FOXN1 is a ubiquitously expressed member that has been implicated in the embryo development, metabolism, aging and cancer. However, little is known regarding the role of FOXN1 in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

The data mining results are always evolving with the newly generated data. Obviously, for the clustering task, it is better to incrementally update the new clustering results based on the old data rather than to recluster all of the data from scratch.

Interactions of Dihydromyricetin, a Flavonoid from Vine Tea (Ampelopsis grossedentata) with Gut Microbiota.

Unlabelled: Dihydromyricetin (DMY) is the main bioactive constituent in vine tea (Ampelopsis grossedentata), which was predominantly distributed in the gastrointestinal tract and showed poor oral bioavailability. Our aim was to systematically investigate the interactions of DMY with gut microbiota. Through the metabolism study of DMY by fecal microflora in vitro, it was found that DMY could be metabolized into three metabolites by fecal microflora via reduction and dehydroxylation pathways, and the dehydroxylation metabolite was the dominant one.

FBXW7 deletion contributes to lung tumor development and confers resistance to gefitinib therapy.

Gefitinib, an epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI), is an effective treatment for non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with EGFR activating mutations, but inevitably, the clinical efficacy is impeded by the emergence of acquired resistance. The tumor suppressor gene FBXW7 modulates chemosensitivity in various human cancers. However, its role in EGFR-TKI therapy in NSCLC has not been well studied.

Background: The polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common metabolic and endocrine disorder with pathological mechanisms remain unclear. The following study investigates the ovarian hyperfibrosis forming via transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) signaling pathway in Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA)- induced polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) rat model. We furthermore explored whether TGF-βRI inhibitor (SB431542) decreases ovarian fibrosis by counterbalancing the expression of fibrotic biomarkers.

Avian Influenza (H7N9) Viruses Co-circulating among Chickens, Southern China.

In April 2017, three avian influenza (H7N9) viruses were isolated from chickens in southern China. Each virus had different insertion points in the cleavage site of the hemagglutinin protein compared to the first identified H7N9 virus. We determined that these viruses were double or triple reassortant viruses.

The projected increases in sea levels are expected to affect coastal ecosystems. Tropical communities, anchored by mangrove trees and having experienced frequent past sea level changes, appear to be vibrant at present. However, any optimism about the resilience of these ecosystems is premature because the impact of past climate events may not be reflected in the current abundance.
