Metabolomics comparison of four varieties apple with different browning characters in response to pretreatment during pulp processing.

Browning commonly appeared in apple processing, which varied in different apple varieties. Present work investigated the metabolomics of four varieties apple of Yataka, Gala, Sansa, and Fuji, which possessed different browning characteristics and related enzymes. Sansa as browning insensitive apple variety, exhibited the least chroma change with the lowest PPO activity and the highest SOD activity among the four apple varieties.

Revealing the structural changes of lignin in Chinese quince (Chaenomeles sinensis) fruit as it matures.

Chinese quince fruits (Chaenomeles sinensis) contain substantial amounts of lignin; however, the exact structure of lignin remains to be investigated. In this study, milled wood lignins (Milled wood lignin (MWL)-1, MWL-2, MWL-3, MWL-4, MWL-5, and MWL-6) were extracted from fruits harvested once a month from May to October 2019 to investigate their structural evolution during fruit growth. The samples were characterized via High-performance anion exchange chromatography (HPAEC), Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), thermogravimetric (TGA), pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) and NMR (2D-heteronuclear single quantum coherence (HSQC) and P).

Long-term outcomes in health-related quality of life influence chronic disease management in patients with pulmonary hypertension.

Background: Significantly improved survival in patients with pulmonary hypertension (PH) has raised interest in maintaining a good quality of long-term survivorship. In this study, health-related quality of life (HRQOL) measurement was used to assess the long-term changes of physical and mental outcomes.

Methods: A total of 559 consecutive inpatients with PH completed generic HRQOL (Short Form-36) who were diagnosed with PH by right heart catheterization.

A randomized, parallel control and multicenter clinical trial of evidence-based traditional Chinese medicine massage treatment VS External Diclofenac Diethylamine Emulgel for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis.

Background: Both massage and topically administered NSAIDs are safe and effective treatments for knee osteoarthritis (KOA); however, different massage technique sects in China caused assessment difficulties for the treatment of KOA. In order to standardize the massage techniques and procedures, we organized multi-disciplinary experts in China to acquire an evidence-based traditional Chinese medicine massage treatment of knee osteoarthritis. The purposes of this study will be to provide clinicians a complementary and alternative therapy for patients and to evaluate the efficacy and safety of evidence-based traditional Chinese medicine massage treatment of KOA compared to External Diclofenac Diethylamine Emulgel.

Vector optical field with the polarization varying along an arbitrary circular trajectory on the Poincaré sphere.

As an inherent feature of vector optical field, the spatial distribution of polarization brings additional degrees of freedom to engineer the optical field and control the interaction between light and matters. Here we focus on the variation of polarization in single vector optical field, which can be defined by the trajectory on the Poincaré sphere. Based on the amplitude-phase-polarization joint modulation method we propose, vector optical field, whose variation of polarization follows arbitrary circular trajectory on the Poincaré sphere, can be generated.

Structural Changes in Milled Wood Lignin (MWL) of Chinese Quince () Fruit Subjected to Subcritical Water Treatment.

Subcritical water treatment has received considerable attention due to its cost effectiveness and environmentally friendly properties. In this investigation, Chinese quince fruits were submitted to subcritical water treatment (130, 150, and 170 °C), and the influence of treatments on the structure of milled wood lignin (MWL) was evaluated. Structural properties of these lignin samples (UL, L130, L150, and L170) were investigated by high-performance anion exchange chromatography (HPAEC), FT-IR, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), TGA, pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS), 2D-Heteronculear Single Quantum Coherence (HSQC) -NMR, and P-NMR.

An osteoclast-like giant cell tumor embedded in the mural nodule of a pancreatic mucinous cystic neoplasm: A case report and literature review.

Rationale: Mucinous cystic neoplasms (MCNs) are relatively rare lesions, accounting for 2%-5% of all exocrine pancreatic neoplasms. MCNs mainly occur in women (female:male ratio = 20:1), with a peak incidence in the 5th decade of life. Osteoclast-like giant cell tumors (OGCTs) are rare and relatively aggressive neoplasms, comprising <1% of all pancreatic carcinomas.

Partitioning of polybrominated biphenyl ethers from mother to fetus and potential health-related implications.

Presently, knowledge on the partitioning of polybrominated biphenyl ethers (PBDEs) from mother to fetus and the relationship between PBDE exposure and the levels of thyroid hormones (THs) needs to be extended further. In the present study, we investigated the concentrations of PBDEs in paired mother-fetus samples from 72 pregnant women in Wenling, China. The detection of PBDE concentration suggested that the expectant women living in Wenling for over 20 years might be highly exposed to PBDEs, which is largely ascribed to e-waste recycling activities in the local environment.

Gamma-H2AX upregulation caused by Wip1 deficiency increases depression-related cellular senescence in hippocampus.

The PP2C family member Wild-type p53-induced phosphatase 1 (Wip1) critically regulates DNA damage response (DDR) under stressful situations. In the present study, we investigated whether Wip1 expression was involved in the regulation of DDR-induced and depression-related cellular senescence in mouse hippocampus. We found that Wip1 gene knockout (KO) mice showed aberrant elevation of hippocampal cellular senescence and of γ-H2AX activity, which is known as a biomarker of DDR and cellular senescence, indicating that the lack of Wip1-mediated γ-H2AX dephosphorylation facilitates cellular senescence in hippocampus.

Primary advanced esophago-gastric melanoma: A rare case.

Primary esophageal or gastric melanoma is a very rare disease with early metastasis. Due to its atypical symptom and less efficiency of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, the prognosis of esophageal or gastric melanoma is still very poor. Surgical resection remains the preferential treatment for esophageal or gastric melanoma.

Deletion of TRIM32 protects mice from anxiety- and depression-like behaviors under mild stress.

Chronic stress causes a variety of psychiatric disorders such as anxiety and depression, but its mechanism is not well understood. Tripartite motif-containing protein 32 (TRIM32) was strongly associated with autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder based on a study of copy number variation, and deletion of TRIM32 increased neural proliferation and reduced apoptosis. Here, we propose that TRIM32 is involved in chronic stress-induced affective behaviors.

Placental transfer of dechlorane plus in mother-infant pairs in an e-waste recycling area (Wenling, China).

It has been reported that breastfeeding can expose newborns to dechlorane plus (DP), but transplacental transfer of DP has not been documented. We measured DP and its dechlorinated analogs in matched maternal blood-placenta-cord blood samples from 72 residents of the e-waste recycling area of Wenling, China. DP was detected in cord sera, indicating the occurrence of prenatal DP exposure and the transfer of DP across the placenta.

[Clinical observation of jianpi bushen formula to prevent collapse of osteonecrosis of femoral head].

To observe the clinical effect of Jianpi Bushen formula to prevent the collapse of osteonecrosis of femoral head (ONFH) of type phlegm and blood stasis obstructing the collaterals. 50 cases (including 73 hips) of non-collapse ONFH (ARCO I, II, III a) were selected from the out-patient department of orthopedic in Guang'anmen Hospital attached to China Academy of Chinese Medical Science. All the cases fit for diagnostic criteria were given Jianpi Bushen formula and followed up.

PEITC reverse multi-drug resistance of human gastric cancer SGC7901/DDP cell line.

Gastric cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death in the world and nearly all patients who respond initially to cisplatin later develop drug resistance, indicating multi-drug resistance is an essential aspect of the failure of treatment. Phenethyl isothiocyanate (PEITC) has been implicated in inhibiting metastasis of several types of human cancer. However, the effect and potential mechanism of PEITC reversed multi-drug resistance of human gastric cancer is not fully clear.

[Meta-analysis on efficacy and safety of external use of tradition Chinese medicines and western medicines in treating knee osteoarthritis].

Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of the external use of tradition Chinese medicine (TCM) in treating knee osteoarthritis.

Method: By computer retrieval of MEDLINE, CNKI and VIP database on data from the establishment of database to May 2011,all of the randomized controlled trials on the external use of TCMs in treating knee osteoarthritis with western medicines as the control drugs were collected to screen out literatures in line with the inclusion standards. The quality of the included literatures was strictly assessed, and a meta-analysis was conducted by RevMan 5.

Dechlorane Plus and its dechlorinated analogs from an e-waste recycling center in maternal serum and breast milk of women in Wenling, China.

We measured Dechlorane Plus (DP) and its dechlorinated analogs in the blood and milk from women living in e-waste recycling sites in Wenling of Taizhou region, China (n = 49). Both syn-DP and anti-DP were detected in all samples. Another compound, Cl(11)-DP, was detected in 45% and 84% of milk and serum samples, respectively.

Methods: Ten adult Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into Sham group and TSCI group, 5 rats in each group. Rats from Sham group and TSCI group at 1 day after surgery were sacrificed for harvesting T₁₃-L₂ spinal tissue specimens.

[A brief introduction to Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation II].

Clinical practice guidelines play an important role in practitioner and patient decisions regarding appropriate clinical health care and in health policy formation. In the guideline development process, inappropriate methodologies and development strategies significantly influence the quality of guidelines; therefore, research and evaluation of guidelines have great significance. The original Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation (AGREE) instrument was published in 2003 by a group of international guideline developers and researchers.

A comparative study of ipsilateral intertrochanteric and femoral shaft fractures treated with long proximal femoral nail antirotation or plate combinations.

Objective: To compare the results of long proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA-long) and plate combinations in the treatment of ipsilateral intertrochanteric and femoral shaft fractures.

Methods: Between March 2004 and April 2009, 23 patients with ipsilateral intertrochanteric and femoral shaft fractures were treated with PFNA-long or plate combinations. The patients were divided into two groups.

Ipsilateral basicervical femoral neck and shaft fractures treated with long proximal femoral nail antirotation or various plate combinations: comparative study.

Background: Although many treatment methods have been developed, controversy exists regarding the optimal management of ipsilateral femoral neck and shaft fractures. The purpose of this retrospective study was to compare the results of long proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA-long) and various plate combinations in the treatment of ipsilateral basicervical femoral neck and shaft fractures.

Methods: Between January 2004 and May 2008, a total of 21 patients with ipsilateral basicervical femoral neck and shaft fractures were treated with PFNA-long or various plate combinations.
