Purpose: Emergency resuscitative thoracotomy (ERT) is a final salvage procedure for critically injured trauma patients. Given its low success rate and ambiguous indications, its use in blunt trauma scenarios remains highly debated. Consequently, our study seeks to ascertain the overall survival rate of ERT in blunt trauma patients and determine which patients would benefit most from this procedure.

Objective: To investigate the association between 1 adrenergic receptor autoantibodies (1-AA) and angiotensin II type-1 receptor autoantibodies (AT1-AA) and cardiac function in patients with hypertension complicated with left ventricular diastolic function limitation.

Methods: A total of 120 patients with essential hypertension who were not taking drug treatment and were hospitalised in the Department of Cardiology at the authors' hospital from April 2018 to December 2018 were enrolled in this study and divided into a diastolic dysfunction group (65 cases) and a normal diastolic group (55 cases) according to their left ventricular diastolic function. The levels of cardiac parameters, 1-AA, AT1-AA, and other indicators were compared.

Introduction: A keloid is a type of benign fibrotic disease with similar features to malignancies, including anti-apoptosis, over-proliferation, and invasion. Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a crucial mechanism that regulates the metastatic behavior of tumors. Thus, identifying EMT biomarkers is paramount in comprehensively understanding keloid pathogenesis.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of stereotactic aspiration surgery compared to conventional treatment for primary brainstem hemorrhages in 137 patients.
  • Results showed a significantly lower 30-day mortality rate and better neurological recovery after 90 days for the stereotactic surgery group, although overall prognosis was similar to the conventional treatment group.
  • The conclusion highlights that stereotactic aspiration surgery can notably decrease mortality and enhance neurological function in certain patients with primary brainstem hemorrhage.

Objective: To compare the clinical efficacy between herbal-moxa plaster and moxa-box moxibustion for diarrhea type irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) of spleen and kidney deficiency.

Methods: Eighty patients with IBS-D of spleen and kidney deficiency were randomly divided into a herbal-moxa plaster group and a moxa-box moxibustion group, 40 cases in each group. The patients in the two groups were treated with conventional acupuncture at Baihui (GV 20), Yintang (GV 24), Zhongwan (CV 12) and bilateral Tianshu (ST 25), Yinlingquan (SP 9), and Taixi (KI 3), etc.

Pompe disease, also known as glycogen storage disease type Ⅱ, is a rare autosomal recessive disease. With the application of enzyme replacement therapy, more and more patients with Pompe disease can survive to adulthood, and nervous system-related clinical manifestations gradually emerge. Nervous system involvement seriously affects the quality of life of patients with Pompe disease, and a systematic understanding of the clinical manifestations, imaging features and pathological changes of nervous system injury in Pompe disease is of great significance for the early identification and intervention of Pompe disease.

Backgrouds And Objective: Keloids are defined as overrepairing products that develop after skin lesions. Keloids are characterized by the proliferation of fibroblasts and the overaccumulation of extracellular matrix components (mainly collagen), leading to a locally hypoxic microenvironment. Hence, this article was aimed to review hypoxia in pathogenesis of keloids.

Purpose: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is common in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) patients and is related to worse adverse prognosis in HCM patients. However, there are no acknowledged warning characteristics to help to identify OSA in HCM patients.

Methods: Seventy-one HCM patients and forty-nine hypertensive (HTN) patients as control group underwent polysomnography (PSG) examination at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University from January 2015 to December 2019 patients were consecutively enrolled.

Timely identification of respiratory pathogens guides specific treatment, reduces hospital costs and minimizes the excessive use of antibiotics. A new multiplex real-time PCR panel was developed based on an automatic molecular detection and analysis system (AutoMolec system), consisting of three separate internally controlled assays. Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia pneumoniae, adenovirus, human metapneumovirus, influenza B virus, respiratory syncytial virus and human parainfluenza virus 1-3 may be directly detected in original samples.

Background: The optimal extent of lymph node (LN) dissection in the management of N1b papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) is still under debate in clinical practice, so we aimed to identify the risk factors associated with multilevel lateral lymph node metastasis (LLNM) with regard to the extent of LN dissection.

Methods: The clinical data of 182 N1b PTMC patients between January 2019 and June 2021 at Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital were retrospectively reviewed. The frequency pattern and distribution of LLNM were analyzed for risk factors.

Background: 2,3-Dihydro-3,5-dihydroxy-6-methyl-4(H)-pyran-4-one (DDMP) and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) are two main enolization products in the Maillard reaction and found in some foodstuffs. For many years, whether they are functional or noxious to human health has been a matter of debate. Thus, insight into their formation pathways is important to manage Maillard reaction products.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a new therapy for treating cancer with less toxicity, high selectivity, good cooperativity, and repetitive usability. However, keloid treatment by PDT is mainly focused on clinical appearance, and few studies have been conducted on the mechanisms of PDT. In this study, key factors of the classical mitochondrial apoptosis signaling pathway were measured to assess the effect of a new PDT photosensitizer (p1).

Polymer dielectric capacitors are widely utilized in pulse power devices owing to their high power density. Because of the low dielectric constants of pure polymers, inorganic fillers are needed to improve their properties. The size and dielectric properties of fillers will affect the dielectric breakdown of polymer-based composites.

Purpose: The social support theory suggested that involving older people in social activities could increase their level of social participation and interaction, which in turn improved their well-being. However, there has been a heated controversy about whether participating in volunteer services could enhance the well-being of older people, especially for the Chinese sample.

Method: Based on the data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) in 2013, this paper used an ordered probit model to examine the impact of older people's participation in volunteer services on their well-being, as well as the differences in the impact across groups and the specific transmission mechanism.

Proliferation is an important characteristic of life, and many signaling pathways participate in this complicated process. The MAPK/Erk pathway is a classic pathway in cell proliferation. In this study, expression levels of key factors in the MAPK/Erk pathway were measured to assess the proliferation level among normal skin, physiological scar, and keloid tissue.

Background: Geriatric hip fracture patients receiving clopidogrel are a surgical challenge. In China, most of these patients undergo delayed surgical treatment after clopidogrel withdrawal for at least 5 to 7 days. However, delayed surgery is associated with increased complications and mortality in the older adults.

Exercising was reported by several studies to bring great benefits to heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), which reduced the hospitalization and the mortality of heart failure. However, the underlying mechanism of exercising on HFpEF remains unclear. In the present study, we designed and constructed a device that can perform early passive leg movement (ePLM) in rats and further observed whether treatment of ePLM exerts protective effects on HFpEF of rats.
