The Use of Solitaire AB Stents in Coil Embolization of Wide-Necked Cerebral Aneurysms.

Background: The Solitaire AB stent is one of many assistant stents used for treating wide-necked cerebral aneurysm, and has been used since 2003. However, large sample studies on its safety and effectiveness are lacking. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of the Solitaire AB stent in the coil embolization of wide-necked cerebral aneurysms.

Unusual presentation of primary orbital microcystic adnexal carcinoma.

Microcystic adnexal carcinoma (MAC) is a rare and locally aggressive malignancy that occurs on the face, can invade deep tissue, and can rarely invade the orbit via perineural spread. It has been reported most often in the form of a cutaneous lesion. Although there have been 3 prior case reports of an orbital presentation of MAC, all have been from undiagnosed cutaneous or subcutaneous lesions.

Intracranial malignancies occurring more than 20 years after radiation therapy for pituitary adenoma.

A 37-year-old woman developed a left third cranial nerve palsy 28 years after radiation for a nonsecreting pituitary adenoma. Imaging disclosed a left parasellar mass and a midbrain/pontine signal abnormality. Biopsy of the parasellar mass revealed a malignant sarcoma.

A novel genetic locus for familial febrile seizures and epilepsy on chromosome 3q26.2-q26.33.

Febrile seizures (FS) are common in children, and the incidence is 2-5% before the age of 5 years. A four-generation Chinese family with autosomal dominant febrile seizure and epilepsy was studied by genome-wide linkage analysis. Significant linkage was identified with markers on chromosome 3q26.

[Determination of trace beryllium in geological samples by oxygen doped air-acetylene flame atomic absorption spectrometry].

A new method for the determination of trace beryllium in geological samples by oxygen-air-acetylene flame atomic absorption spectrometry is reported in the present paper. The optimum determination conditions were selected. When suitable amounts of 8-hydroxyquinoline are added, the interference effect from the coexisting elements can be minimized and the sensitivity for the determination of beryllium can be increased.

Functional and structural outcomes following lensectomy for ectopia lentis.

Purpose: High refractive errors and optical aberrations reduce vision when the lens edge bisects the pupil. We studied outcomes of eyes with ectopia lentis following lensectomy.

Methods: Charts of 11 consecutive patients with bilateral ectopia lentis who underwent lensectomy-anterior vitrectomy in at least one eye from 1985 to 2004 were reviewed.

[Determination of zinc in mineral by FAAS after phase separation and extraction].

Non-ion surface active agent can be separated from its solution of water by heating to its cloud point. A new method for the determination of zinc in mineral samples by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer after phase separation and extraction making use of its cloud point was studied in this paper. The conditions of phase separation and extraction such as using Triton X-100 as phase separation agent, and octanol to drop the cloud point, and the influence of acidity and the number of times for oscillating were discussed.

Ophthalmic manifestations of Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome.

Purpose: Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome is caused by partial deletion of the short arm of chromosome 4 (4p-). Common features include developmental delay, microcephaly, seizures, craniofacial anomalies, mental retardation, and cardiac defects. This article further describes the ocular manifestations of this rare disorder.
