- Thalidomide shows improved overall and progression-free survival rates in elderly patients with multiple myeloma when combined with standard treatments compared to those receiving only standard therapy.
- A total of seven trials with 1821 subjects indicated a significant benefit in the complete response rate for patients treated with thalidomide.
- Despite a higher incidence of severe adverse events with the thalidomide combination therapy, there was no significant difference in thrombotic event rates or mortality related to adverse events between the treatment groups.
