Objective: Charcot arthropathy is characterized by varying degrees of sensory loss and rapidly progressive joint destruction. Historically, limited studies indicated that Charcot arthropathy of the hip joint may be a contraindication for total hip arthroplasty (THA). Yet, some recent studies have shown that good clinical results and acceptable survival rate.

Article Synopsis
  • Most patients with varicocele (VC) are asymptomatic and are often identified due to male infertility, prompting the need for early detection by healthcare providers.* -
  • A retrospective study analyzed clinical data from 423 patients, grouping them into VC and non-VC categories, to identify risk and protective factors for VC using various statistical methods.* -
  • The findings indicated that systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) are significant risk factors for VC, while a higher body mass index (BMI) serves as a protective factor, with combined metrics showing improved prediction accuracy for VC.*

Introduction And Importance: Graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) is a rare but severe complication following liver transplantation (LT), occurring in 1-2 % of cases with a mortality rate exceeding 80 %. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) used pretransplant are associated with increased allograft rejection risk, but their impact on GvHD in LT remains unclear. Dominant one-way donor-recipient human leukocyte antigen (HLA) matching is a known risk factor for GvHD.

Liver transplantation (LT) is an ideal therapeutic option for selected patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The selection criteria of HCC for LT have evolved in recent decades. Downstaging therapy is a promising strategy for patients with tumor burden beyond transplant criteria to increase the chance of receiving LT and improve posttransplant survival.

Article Synopsis
  • * Analyzed 53 cases of diagnosed fetal IAA alongside 53 normal fetuses, finding that this method identified various types of IAA and provided dynamic visualization for better prenatal diagnosis.
  • * Concluded that combining HD-flow with STIC significantly improves diagnostic accuracy for fetal IAA, highlighting its clinical importance.

Introduction: Megalencephaly-polymicrogyria-polydactyly-hydrocephalus (MPPH) syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant disorder characterized by megalencephaly (i.e., overgrowth of the brain), polymicrogyria, focal hypoplasia of the cerebral cortex, and polydactyly.

Background: Both closed platform and open platform robotic-assisted total hip arthroplasty (THA) have recently been recommended as a viable treatment option for achieving accurate positioning of components. Yet, limited studies paid attention to the differences between the closed platform robotic system and the open platform robotic system. Hence, this study aimed to investigate clinical outcomes, radiographic outcomes, complication rates and learning curve of two systems.

Introduction: To explore the diagnostic value of spatiotemporal image correlation (STIC) for different types of fetal conotruncal defects (CTDs).

Methods: The clinical data and STIC images of 174 fetuses with CTDs diagnosed via prenatal ultrasound were analyzed retrospectively.

Results: Among the 174 cases of CTDs, 58 were tetralogy of Fallot (TOF); 30, transposition of great arteries (TGA) (D-TGA, 23 cases; cc-TGA, 7 cases); 26, double outlet of the right ventricle (DORV); 32, persistent arterial trunk (PTA) (type A1, 15 cases; type A2, 11 cases; type A3, 5 cases; type A4, 1 case); and 28, pulmonary atresia (PA) (ventricular septal defect, 24 cases; ventricular septal integrity, 4 cases).

Background And Aims: Patients with persistent positive hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), even with a low HBV-DNA load, have a higher risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) than those without HBV infection. Given that tumor stemness has a critical role in the occurrence and maintenance of neoplasms, this study aimed to explore whether HBsAg affects biological function and stemness of HCC by regulating microRNA, and to explore underlying mechanisms.

Methods: We screened out miR-203a, the most significant down-regulated microRNA in the microarray analysis of HBsAg-positive samples and focused on that miRNA in the ensuing study.

The cellular origin of hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC) and the role of Notch1 signalling in HCC initiation are controversial. Herein, we establish Notch1 as a regulator of HCC development and progression. Clinically, high Notch1 expression correlates with enhanced cancer progression, elevated lung metastasis, increased cancer stem cell (CSC)-like cells' gene signature expression, and poor overall survival in HCC patients.

Background: Patients with poliomyelitis underwent total hip arthroplasty (THA) are known to be at higher risk of dislocation on account of muscular atrophy. This study aimed to investigate clinical outcomes, radiographic outcomes, complication rates, and survivorship of dual mobility THA in displaced femoral neck fractures of elderly with poliomyelitis.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively included 17 patients (17 hips) with residual poliomyelitis who underwent THA with dual mobility articulation.

Background: Performing postoperative laboratory tests following joint arthroplasty is a regular practice. However, the role of routine postoperative laboratory tests in primary hip arthroplasty is currently in doubt. This study aimed to assess the role of routine postoperative laboratory tests for femoral neck fractures in elderly patients who underwent hip hemiarthroplasty and to evaluate the risk factors for postoperative laboratory testing abnormalities and related interventions.

Background: Intestinal dysbiosis has been shown to be associated with the pathogenesis of alcoholic liver disease (ALD), which includes changes in the microbiota composition and bacterial overgrowth, but an effective microbe-based therapy is lacking. () CGMCC 7049 is a newly isolated strain of probiotic that has been shown to be resistant to ethanol and bile salts. However, further studies are needed to determine whether exerts a protective effect on ALD and to elucidate the potential mechanism.

  • A study analyzed 74 confirmed COVID-19 cases with gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms in Zhejiang province, focusing on their epidemiological, clinical, and virological characteristics.
  • Out of 651 patients, 11.4% exhibited GI symptoms like nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, with a notable correlation to more severe illness and family clustering.
  • The study highlights the need for healthcare providers to pay attention to non-classical COVID-19 symptoms, as GI-related symptoms can indicate more severe cases and were associated with specific risk factors.

Introduction: Internal fixation (IF) with cannulated screws is the most widely accepted operation method for nondisplaced femoral neck fractures (FNFs) in elderly patients. However, there were higher rate of reoperation, severe complications and poorer functional outcomes reported in these patients treated with IF. The purpose of this research is to compare the prognosis, complications, reoperation and mortality of bipolar hemiarthroplasty (HA) with IF of cannulated screws in elderly patients.

Dysregulation of dickkopf-related protein 1 (DKK1) expression has been reported in a variety of human cancers. We previously reported that DKK1 was upregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the role of DKK1 in HCC remains unclear.
