Aim: To investigate whether combined adipose-derived mesenchymal-stem-cells (ADMSCs)-derived exosome (EX) and exogenous mitochondria (mito) protect the lung from ARDS complicated by SS.
Methods: study, including L2 cells treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and study including male-adult-SD rats categorized into groups 1 (sham-operated-control), 2 (ARDS-SS), 3 (ARDS-SS + EX), 4 (ARDS-SS + mito), and 5 (ARDS-SS + EX + mito), were included in the present study.
Introduction: EGFR-mutated NSCLC is characterized by an immunosuppressive microenvironment that confers limited clinical effectiveness to anti-PD-1 or PD-L1 antibodies. Despite the discouraging outcomes of immunotherapy, novel immune checkpoints are constantly emerging, among which the specific vulnerability for therapeutic intervention in the context of EGFR-mutated NSCLC remains unresolved.
Methods: Data sets of patient- and cell line-levels were used for screening and mutual validation of association between EGFR mutation and a panel of immune checkpoint-related genes.
Introduction: The literature on de novo EGFR-mutant patients diagnosed with lung cancer is limited, and there is currently no consensus concerning the most effective treatment protocols. This study aimed to investigate the genomic characteristics of de novoEGFR-mutant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and provide insights into its clinical response and resistance mechanism to third-generation EGFR-TKIs.
Methods: Next-generation sequencing was utilized to screen a substantial cohort of 4,228 treatment-naïve patients from the Mygene genomic database to identifythe de novo EGFR-T790M mutation.
Background: There is conflicting evidence on association between quick sequential organ failure assessment (qSOFA) and sepsis mortality in ICU patients. The primary aim of this study was to determine the association between qSOFA and 28-day mortality in ICU patients admitted for sepsis. Association of qSOFA with early (3-day), medium (28-day), late (90-day) mortality was assessed in low and lower middle income (LLMIC), upper middle income (UMIC) and high income (HIC) countries/regions.

The aim of the current study was to compare the number of adult critical care beds in relation to population size in Asian countries and regions before (2017) and during (2022) the pandemic.
Methods: This observational study collected data closest to 2022 on critical care beds (intensive care units and intermediate care units) in 12 middle-income and 7 high-income economies (using the 2022-2023 World Bank classification), through a mix of methods including government sources, national critical care societies, personal contacts, and data extrapolation.
Sepsis remains a critical concern in healthcare, and its management is complicated when patients have pre-existing diabetes and varying body mass indexes (BMIs). This retrospective multicenter observational study, encompassing data from 15,884 sepsis patients admitted between 2012 and 2017, investigates the relationship between peak glucose levels and peak glycemic gap in the first 3 days of ICU admission, and their impact on mortality. The study reveals that maintaining peak glucose levels between 141-220 mg/dL is associated with improved survival rates in sepsis patients with diabetes.

This network meta-analysis (NMA) compared survival outcomes among first-line EGFR-TKIs in different subgroups of East Asian patients with advanced NSCLC.
Methods: This NMA included real-world observational studies reporting outcomes with TKIs in patients aged >65 years, with baseline brain metastasis, with different Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) statuses, or with different common EGFR mutation types.
The study aimed to determine whether using body composition data acquired through bio-electrical impedance analysis (BIA) to adjust diet formulas could improve outcomes in septic patients. There were 132 septic patients in medical intensive care units enrolled in the prospective, randomized, double-blind, interventional study. For the intervention group, dietitians had access to BIA data for adjusting diet formulas according to body composition variables on days 1, 3, and 8.

Rat pulmonary epithelial cell line L2 (PECL2) were categorized into G1 (PECL2), G2 (PECL2 + healthy rat lung-derived extraction/50 mg/ml co-cultured for 24 h), G3 (PECL2 + ARDS rat lung-derived extraction/50 mg/ml co-cultured for 24 h), and G4 (condition as G3 + HUCDMSCs/1 × 10/co-cultured for 24 h). The result showed that the protein expressions of inflammatory (HMGB-1/TLR-2/TLR-4/MAL/TRAM/MyD88/TRIF/TRAF6/IkB/NF-κB/IL-1β/TNF-α), oxidative-stress/mitochondrial-damaged (NOX-1/NOX-2/ASK1/p-MKK4/p-MKK7/JNKs/JUN/cytosolic-cytochrome-C/cyclophilin-D/DRP1), and cell-apoptotic/fibrotic (cleaved-caspase 3/cleaved-PARP/TGF-β/p-Smad3) biomarkers were significantly increased in G3 than in G1/G2 and were significantly reversed in G4 (all 0.

In this study, we aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of apatinib combined with capecitabine as a second-line therapy or beyond for treating RM-NPC patients who failed the first-line platinum-based chemotherapy.
Methods: In this single-arm, phase II study, we enrolled RM-NPC patients who had at least one measurable lesion according to the Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST v1.
Background & Objective: "Anti-angiogenetic drugs plus chemotherapy" (anti-angio-chemo) and "immune checkpoint inhibitors plus chemotherapy" (ICI-chemo) are superior to traditional chemotherapy in the first-line treatment of patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, in the absence of a direct comparison of ICI-chemo with anti-angio-chemo, the superior one between them has not been decided, and the benefit of adding anti-angiogenetic agents to ICI-chemo remains controversial. This study aimed to investigate the role of antiangiogenic agents for advanced NSCLC in the era of immunotherapy.

Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1), the enzyme that catabolizes tryptophan (Trp) metabolism to promote regulatory T cells (Tregs) and suppress CD8 T cells, is regulated by several intrinsic signaling pathways. Here, we found that tobacco smoke, a major public health concern that kills 8 million people each year worldwide, induced IDO1 in normal and malignant lung epithelial cells in vitro and in vivo. The carcinogen nicotine-derived nitrosaminoketone (NNK) was the tobacco compound that upregulated IDO1 via activation of the transcription factor c-Jun, which has a binding site for the IDO1 promoter.
