Revealing the sources, composition and fate of riverine dissolved organic matter (DOM) is fundamental to understanding the biogeochemical cycles of aquatic ecosystems. This study aimed to reveal the impact of land uses and wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) on riverine DOM. Spatiotemporal variations in molecular characteristics of riverine DOM in the river network containing 15 tributaries in the mainstream of upper Hanjiang River were studied.

Methods: We retrospectively analysed 157 cases of fetal RAA diagnosed via prenatal ultrasound in our hospital from October 2017 to October 2022. RAA features were characterised by comparing prenatal ultrasound data with anatomical casting results after pregnancy termination or postnatal imaging and surgical intervention to analyse the prognosis and misdiagnoses of fetal RAA.
Purpose: To evaluate the predictive accuracy of 11 intraocular lens (IOL) calculation formulas in eyes with an axial length (AL) less than 22.00 mm.
Methods: New-generation formulas (Barrett Universal II [BUII], Emmetropia Verifying Optical [EVO] 2.
Pyroptosis is linked to the development of acute lung injury (ALI), and circular RNAs (circRNAs) play a role in ALI-related inflammation. However, the mechanisms by which circRNAs contribute to macrophage pyroptosis in ALI remain unclear. This study constructed an in vitro ALI model by inducing THP-1 cells with phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS).

Introduction: This study evaluates the clinical value of a deep learning-based artificial intelligence (AI) system that performs rapid brain volumetry with automatic lobe segmentation and age- and sex-adjusted percentile comparisons.
Methods: Fifty-five patients-17 with Alzheimer's disease (AD), 18 with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), and 20 healthy controls-underwent cranial magnetic resonance imaging scans. Two board-certified neuroradiologists (BCNR), two board-certified radiologists (BCR), and three radiology residents (RR) assessed the scans twice: first without AI support and then with AI assistance.
Objective: This study aims to analyze the value of prenatal ultrasound in the screening, diagnosis, and treatment of double aortic arch (DAA) malformations.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 31 fetal cases with double aortic arch anomalies over a 12-year period from June 1, 2011 to June 1, 2023. The assessment included combined measurements of fetal tracheal internal diameter Z-score and DAA pinch angle, along with ultrasonographic findings, associated anomalies, genetic abnormalities, postnatal CTA images, and long-term postnatal outcomes.
Rapid Commun Mass Spectrom

Rationale: The development of analytical screening techniques for pesticides is crucial for preventing and mitigating environmental contamination. Mass spectrometry-based screening methods differ based on the complexity of the sample matrix and the diversity of the target compounds. One of the major challenges is balancing cost reduction in the extraction process with the optimization of analytical results.

Methods: To determine the role of SIRT3 in osteoclast mitochondria, we used mice with conditional loss of Sirt3 in osteoclast lineage and mice with germline deletion of either Sirt3 or its known target Pink1.
Results: SIRT3 stimulates mitochondrial quality in osteoclasts in a PINK1-independent manner, promoting mitochondrial activity and osteoclast maturation and function, thereby contributing to bone loss in female but not male mice.
To enhance the remediation effect of heavy metal pollution, organic fertilizers with different maturity levels were added to cadmium-contaminated soil. The remediation effect was determined by evaluating the form transformation and bioavailability of cadmium in heavy metal-contaminated soil. -Results showed that when the maturity was 50%, although the soil humus (HS) content increased, it didn't contribute to reducing the bioavailability of soil Cd.

Methods: A total of 668 patients from one hospital were enrolled in the study (542 non-BA and 126 BA). The independent and combined diagnostic efficacy of PHLNs, triangular cord (TC) thickness, and gallbladder morphology were assessed by drawing the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and counting the area under the ROC curve (AUC), sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV).
Surgical site infection (SSI) significantly affects patient recovery time, health outcomes and quality of life which is closely associated with the use of implants or mesh. Sutures are the most frequently used implants that play a significant role in the development of SSI. Studies have demonstrated that the administration of effective bactericidal and anti-inflammatory treatments can significantly decrease the incidence of SSI.

The hallmark of a high level of hydrogen peroxide (HO) and acidic extracellular environment of the hypoxia solid tumor can underpin therapeutic and tracking performance. Herein, this work provides an activatable wintersweet-like nanohybrid consisting of titanium (Ti) doped cerium vanadate nanorods with the modification of polypyrrole (PPy) nanoparticles (CeVO-Ti@PPy) for combinatorial therapies of breast carcinoma.

Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) offers a rapid, comprehensive alternative for identifying diverse pathogens, including rare and mixed infections. Thus, we assessed the diagnostic performance of mNGS in pulmonary infections, compared the findings with those of traditional pathogen detection methods, and explored its potential to enhance clinical diagnostics and patient care.

Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted in Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Guangzhou, China.
Phytoplankton are primary producers in aquatic ecosystems and their diversity directly affects the community stability and primary productivity. However, the commonly used diversity indices (such as Shannon and Pielou indices) were originally derived from other fields rather than ecology and did not have a direct biological explanatory function. There is still a need to incorporate biological explanatory functions into diversity evaluation methods and theories to bridge the gap between phytoplankton biodiversity and biological characteristics.
