Antibiotic resistance has been recognized as one of the most prevalent public health problems. The bioaerosol-mediated spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) is an important but underrated pathway. Therefore, this work investigated the comprehensive resistome and pathogen-induced risk in bioaerosols released from anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) process under antibiotic stress.

Phosphorus (P) is vital for plant growth, but its agricultural use is limited by soil fixation and environmental loss. This study developed an organic ligand-responsive phosphate release system by hybridizing magnesium-iron-layered double hydroxides (Mg-Fe LDH) with pectin from apple and citrus (pectin-A/C). Structural properties and phosphate (PO) release of LDH hybrids with different concentrations of metal precursors (0.

Advancements in off-world food and fiber production should seek to utilize regolith as a source of nutrients and prepare it for use as a solid plant growth substrate. Towards this goal, aeroponic biowaste streams containing both inorganic nutrients and root system efflux from plants provide an opportunity for accelerated weathering and enhancement of extraterrestrial soils. To test this hypothesis, an aeroponic system was built that contained Martian simulant (Mars Mojave Simulant-2; MMS-2), inert sand, and a no-filter control to evaluate the in-line filters for simultaneous mineral weathering and recycling of biowastes from wheat.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares the effectiveness and safety of radiation-emitting metallic stents (REMS) combined with hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) versus self-expandable metallic stents (SEMS) with HAIC for patients with unresectable perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (pCCA).
  • Results showed that patients using REMS-HAIC had a median overall survival of 10.2 months, significantly longer than the 6.7 months for SEMS-HAIC.
  • Additionally, REMS-HAIC demonstrated better time to symptomatic progression and stent patency, while having an acceptable safety profile, with no major differences in jaundice relief or severe adverse events between the two groups.

Background: In many clinical situations, it is critical to exclude or identify abnormally lymph nodes (LNs). The nature of superficial abnormally LNs is closely related to the stage, treatment, and prognosis of the disease. Ultrasound (US) is an important method for examining superficial LNs due to its cheap and safe characteristics.

  • Image-guided thermal ablation shows similar long-term disease progression and survival rates as lobectomy for patients with solitary papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC).
  • * In a study involving 1,021 patients, no significant differences in complications, hospital stay, procedure time, or costs were found after matching the two treatment groups.
  • * Ablation had lower complication rates and required less time and resources, suggesting it may be a viable option for patients unwilling to undergo surgery.

  • * A new ion chromatography method was developed to analyze multiple organic amines simultaneously without complex preparation, using specific conditions to enhance separation efficiency.
  • * The method showed excellent accuracy with high linear correlation for the eight tested amines, having low detection limits and good recovery rates, indicating it could reliably be used for analyzing desulfurization solutions.

Background: Despite regional brain structural changes having been reported in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP), the topological properties of structural covariance networks (SCNs), which refer to the organization of the SCNs, remain unclear. This study applied graph theoretical analysis to explore the alterations of the topological properties of SCNs, aiming to comprehend the integration and separation of SCNs in patients with CLBP.

Methods: A total of 38 patients with CLBP and 38 healthy controls (HCs), balanced for age and sex, were scanned using three-dimensional T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging.

Background: Neuroimaging studies have suggested a pivotal role for the amygdala involvement in chronic low back pain (CLBP). However, the relationship between the amygdala subregions and CLBP has not yet been delineated. This study aimed to analyze whether the amygdala subregions were linked to the development of CLBP.

Plasma circulating P-selectin glycoprotein ligand-1 (PSGL-1) levels and its clinical correlation in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) are unknown. The study determined plasma PSGL-1 levels in EOC patients and investigated its relationship with clinicopathological factors and prognosis. Plasma PSGL-1 levels were measured using ELISA in 69 patients with EOC, 34 patients with benign ovarian cystadenoma, and 36 healthy controls.

Our objective was to investigate the status and influence of myopia among primary school students in Fushun, Liaoning Province, China. We aimed to provide a theoretical and epistemological basis for implementing myopia prevention initiatives. We employed cluster sampling and surveyed 5216 primary school students from grades 1-6 across eight primary schools in Fushun City.

  • Researchers identified sheep as an unusual intermediate host for the Echinococcus multilocularis parasite, which causes alveolar echinococcosis, in Gansu Province, China.
  • The study involved collecting cyst-like samples from sheep and performing genetic analysis to confirm their identity as E. multilocularis, showing high genetic similarity to known sequences.
  • This finding highlights the need for increased monitoring and surveillance of the parasite in the region due to its high zoonotic potential.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) plus camrelizumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting programmed death-1, and apatinib for patients with intermediate and advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in a real-world setting.

Methods: A total of 586 HCC patients treated with either TACE plus camrelizumab and apatinib (combination group, n = 107) or TACE monotherapy (monotherapy group, n = 479) were included retrospectively. Propensity score matching analysis was used to match patients.

Aim: Accurate preoperative prediction of cervical lymph node metastasis (LNM) in patients with mPTMC provides a basis for surgical decision making and the extent of tumor resection. This study aimed to develop and validate an ultrasound radiomics nomogram for the preoperative assessment of LN status.

Methods: A total of 450 patients pathologically diagnosed with mPTMC were enrolled, including 348 patients in the modeling group and 102 patients in the validation group.

Scientific evaluation of ecological environmental quality is the premise of realizing regional ecological sustainable development. Taking Landsat series satellite images from 1990 to 2020 as the data source, on the basis of the entropy remote sensing ecological index (E-RSEI), combining the Mann-Kendall significance test, Theil-Sen Median analysis, Hurst exponent, and stability analysis, the spatial-temporal variation characteristics of ecological environmental quality in typical ecological areas of the Yellow River Basin were analyzed in the context of multi-spatiotemporal scales. In addition, the effects of eight environmental and human factors on the change in E-RSEI were quantified using a geodetector.

  • This study evaluates the combined effectiveness of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) with PD-(L)1 inhibitors and molecular targeted treatments (MTT) compared to TACE alone in treating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
  • It involved 826 patients, with 376 receiving the combination treatment and 450 undergoing TACE monotherapy, and measured outcomes like progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS).
  • Findings indicated that the combination treatment significantly improved PFS (9.5 months vs. 8.0 months) and OS (19.2 months vs. 15.7 months) while maintaining a manageable safety profile, especially in patients with advanced HCC.
