Prior research has suggested an inverse correlation between dried fruit intake and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), yet the causal link remains uncertain. This study seeks to investigate the potential causal impact of dried fruit intake on T2DM, covering cases both with and without various complications, as well as glycaemic traits, using a two-sample Mendelian randomisation (MR) approach. Using MR analysis with genome-wide association study summary statistics, the primary analysis investigated the causal relationship between dried fruit intake and T2DM, both with and without complications, as well as glycaemic traits, employing the inverse variance weighted method.

Calcium ions (Ca) participate in the regulation of cellular apoptosis as a second messenger. Calcium overload, which refers to the abnormal elevation of intracellular Ca concentration, is a factor that can lead to cell death. Here, based on the unique biological effects of Ca, hollow mesoporous calcium peroxide nanoparticles (HMCPN) were developed by a facile hydrolysis-precipitation method for drug-free tumor calcicoptosis therapy.

is the largest succulent genus in Crassulaceae. Because of predominant maternal inheritance, little recombination, and slow evolution, plastomes can serve as powerful super barcodes for inter- or intra-species phylogenetic analyses. While previous research has focused on plastomes between species, intra-species studies are scarce.

Previous large-sample postmortem study revealed that the expression of miR-1202 in brain tissues from Brodmann area 44 (BA44) was dysregulated in patients with major depressive disorder (MDDs). However, the specific in vivo neuropathological mechanism of miR-1202 as well as its interplay with BA44 circuits in the depressed brain are still unclear. Here, we performed a case-control study with imaging-genetic approach based on resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data and miR-1202 quantification from 110 medication-free MDDs and 102 healthy controls.

The cancer cell metastasis is a major death reason for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Although researchers have disclosed that interleukin 17 (IL-17) can increase matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) induction causing NSCLC cell metastasis, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. In the study, we found that IL-17 receptor A (IL-17RA), p300, p-STAT3, Ack-STAT3, and MMP19 were up-regulated both in NSCLC tissues and NSCLC cells stimulated with IL-17.

The optimization of storage space and material composition can significantly improve the generation rate and storage capacity of methane hydrate, which is important for the industrial application of solidified natural gas (SNG) technology. In our report, the effects of the presence of SDBS (sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate), GO (graphene oxide), 3D-rGO (3D-reduced graphene oxide) and 3D-rGO/SDBS (3D-reduced graphene oxide/sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate) on the methane hydrate generation process are investigated. The results show that the heterogeneous effect on the solid-phase surface of 3D-rGO/SDBS and its interconnected three-dimensional (3D) structure can achieve rapid nucleation.

MiR-134 has emerged as a potential molecular biomarker for the detection and management of major depressive disorder (MDD). Nevertheless, the specific effects of miR-134 as a regulatory element on brain function and its implications for the clinical presentation of MDD are not yet fully understood. In order to investigate the potential neural mechanisms that contribute to the relationship between miR-134 and MDD, we employed a parallel two-stage cross-scale multi-omics approach.

Rat Thy-1 nephritis (Thy-1N) is an experimental model for studying human mesangioproliferative glomerulonephritis (MsPGN), and its pathological features are glomerular mesangial cell (GMC) proliferation and extracellular matrix (ECM) accumulation. Although we have confirmed that renal lesions of Thy-1N rats are sublytic C5b-9-dependent, and ECM accumulation is related to tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase (TIMP) inhibiting matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity, whether sublytic C5b-9 can induce TIMP production by GMC in Thy-1N rat and the underlying mechanism remains unclear. In the study, we proved that the expressions of TIMP3, krϋppel-like transcription factor 5 (KLF5) and tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 6 (TRAF6) were simultaneously up-regulated both in the renal tissues of Thy-1N rats (in vivo) and in the GMC exposed to sublytic C5b-9 (in vitro).

Interleukin-17 (IL-17), a potent proinflammatory cytokine, can trigger the metastasis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the underlying mechanism involved in IL-17-induced NSCLC cell metastasis remains unclear. In this study, we found that not only the expression of IL-17, IL-17RA, and/or general control nonrepressed protein 5 (GCN5), SRY-related HMG-BOX gene 4 (SOX4), and matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9) was increased in the NSCLC tissues and in the IL-17-stimulated NSCLC cells, but also IL-17 treatment could enhance NSCLC cell migration and invasion.
