Objective: To assess associations between the extent of fibrotic interstitial lung disease (ILD) and forced vital capacity (FVC) at baseline and change in FVC over 52 weeks in patients with systemic sclerosis-associated ILD (SSc-ILD) in the SENSCIS trial.

Material And Methods: We used generalized additive models, which involve few assumptions and allow for interaction between non-linear effects, to assess associations between the extent of fibrotic ILD on high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT), and the interplay of extent of fibrotic ILD on HRCT and FVC % predicted, at baseline and FVC decline over 52 weeks.

We performed whole genome sequencing on SARS-CoV-2 from 59 vaccinated individuals from southwest Pennsylvania who tested positive between February and September, 2021. A comparison of mutations among vaccine breakthrough cases to a time-matched control group identified potential adaptive responses of SARS-CoV-2 to vaccination.

HIV but Not CMV Replication Alters the Blood Cytokine Network during Early HIV Infection in Men.

Objective: CMV coinfection contributes to sustained immune activation in people with chronic HIV. In particular, asymptomatic CMV shedding in semen has been associated with increased local and systemic immune activation, even during suppressive antiretroviral therapy (ART). Anomalously high lower stratospheric temperatures were recorded for 4 months at highly statistically significant levels. Here, we use a combination of satellite and surface-based remote sensing observations to derive a time-series of stratospheric biomass burning aerosol optical depths originating from intense SouthEastern Australian wildfires and use these aerosol optical depths in a state-of-the-art climate model.

There is a need for clinical trial end-points to better assess how patients feel and function, so that interventions can be developed which alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life. Use of 6-min walk test (6MWT) outcomes as a primary end-point in interstitial lung disease (ILD) trials is growing, particularly for drugs targeting concurrent pulmonary hypertension. However, 6MWT outcomes may be influenced differentially by interstitial lung and pulmonary vascular components of ILD, making interpretation complicated.

The effect of interval and continuous work on markers of acute kidney injury in a hot environment.

Purpose: To examine the effect of high-intensity interval work (HIIW) and moderate-intensity continuous work (MICW) on markers of acute kidney injury (AKI) and kidney function in a hot environment.

Methods: Nine males completed 2 h of work (2 × 60 min with 10 min passive rest) in a hot environment (40 °C and 15% relative humidity) as either HIIW [2 min at 80% peak oxygen consumption (VOpeak) and 3 min at 30% VOpeak] or MICW (matched for total work of HIIW). Blood and urine samples were collected immediately before (Pre), after (Post), 1 h (1 h Post), and 24 h after (24 h Post) the trials.

This study evaluated changes in physical activity and sitting in response to the first COVID-19 lockdown in England and factors associated with these changes. A cross-sectional online survey-based study collected data from 818 adults between 29 April and 13 May 2020.
