Objective: To describe a novel Small Fragment Removal System (SFRS) which is hypothesized to improve stone fragment removal during flexible ureteroscopy in patients with urolithiasis. The SFRS consists of three parts: a Syphon Ureteric Access Sheath (SUAS), a Dual Action Pump (DAP) and an Agitator. This bench assessment aims to assess the SFRS's impact on intra-renal pressure (IRP), irrigant flow rate and stone fragment removal compared to a traditional UAS.

Several complications of retrograde intrarenal surgery have been attributed to inadvertent increases in intrarenal pressure. We recently described the development of an innovative isoprenaline-eluting guidewire (IsoWire). The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of this IsoWire on the intrarenal pressure and evaluate its safety.

Retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) is associated with complications, many of which are related to the intrarenal pressure (IRP). We aim to describe the design of a novel isoprenaline-eluting guidewire ("IsoWire") and present the results from the first release studies and the first animal studies showing its effect on IRP. The IsoWire comprises a Nitinol core surrounded by a stainless-steel wire wound into a tight coil.

Wastewater surveillance of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) commonly applies reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) to quantify severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) RNA concentrations in wastewater over time. In most applications worldwide, maximal sensitivity and specificity of RT-qPCR has been achieved, in part, by monitoring two or more genomic loci of SARS-CoV-2. In Ontario, Canada, the provincial Wastewater Surveillance Initiative reports the average copies of the CDC N1 and N2 loci normalized to the fecal biomarker pepper mild mottle virus.

The tick-borne obligatory intracellular bacterium infects humans as well as domesticated and wild animals, causing a febrile disease collectively called granulocytic anaplasmosis. The epidemiology and the host species specificity and zoonotic potential of strains remain unclear. In this study, (encoding ankyrin A) and gene sequences of were determined in clinical specimens from horses in Ohio and compared with those found in strains from various hosts and geographic regions.

Intuitively, experience playing against one mixture of opponents in a given domain should be relevant for a different mixture in the same domain. If the mixture changes, ideally we would not have to train from scratch, but rather could transfer what we have learned to construct a policy to play against the new mixture. We propose a transfer learning method, , that starts by learning -values against each pure-strategy opponent.

Orthopedic surgeons face significant physical and psychosocial stressors during their training as surgical residents and throughout their career. Aside from occupational hazards intrinsic to the profession, two notable and treatable concerns are musculoskeletal pain and emotional burnout, which have a reported prevalence as high as 97% and 56%, respectively, among orthopedic residents. Management of musculoskeletal pain and burnout is essential for promoting surgeon well being, education, and longevity as well as avoiding medical errors and compromises to patient care.

Research on previvors, individuals with a genetic predisposition to develop hereditary breast and ovarian cancer but who have not yet been diagnosed with breast or other cancers, examines online information gathering and community support to alleviate uncertainty. However, research exploring online content published by previvors themselves is limited. We examined content published to Instagram and TikTok to explore how breast cancer previvors discussed their lived experience which included, but was not limited to, genetic testing, diagnosis with a pathogenic (i.

Lactating rats show changes in the secretion of hormones and brain signals that promote hyperphagia and facilitate the production of milk. Little is known, however, about the role of ghrelin in the mechanisms sustaining lactational hyperphagia. Here, we used Wistar female rats that underwent surgery to sever the galactophores to prevent milk delivery (GC rats) and decrease the energetic drain of milk delivery.
