Operating theatres are steeply hierarchical, and yet the hierarchy between surgeons and anaesthetists is unclear, even blurry. Both the steep hierarchy and the blurriness at the top can present a risk to patient safety through inhibiting speaking up with concerns and negotiating safe patient care. A recent study in the British Journal of Anaesthesia explores hierarchy in the surgeon-anaesthesia dyad in China, in particular, the effect of increased seniority gap between surgeons and anaesthetists on anaesthesia-related adverse outcomes.

Understanding phenology and its regulation is central for the agronomic adaptation of chickpea. We grew 24 chickpea genotypes in 12 environments to analyse: the environmental and genotypic drivers of phenology; associations between phenology and yield; and phenotypes associated with allelic variants of three flowering related candidate loci: CaELF3a; a cluster of three FT genes on chromosome 3; and an orthologue of the floral promoter GIGANTEA on chromosome 4. A simple model with 3 genotype-specific parameters explained the differences in flowering response to daylength.

This study aims to analyze the incidence, preoperatively collectable risk factors and necessity of perioperative external ventricular drainage placement after posterior fossa metastasis surgery.

Single-step genomic BLUP (ssGBLUP) effectively models small cattle populations: lessons from the Israeli-Holstein Herdbook.

Background: Routine genomic-estimated breeding values (gEBVs) are computed for the Israeli dairy cattle population by a two-step methodology in combination with the much larger Dutch population. Only sire genotypes are included. This work evaluated the contribution of cow genotypes obtained from the Israeli Holstein population to enhance gEBVs predictions via single-step genomic best-linear unbiased prediction (ssGBLUP).

Methods: Using TriNetX, a multi-institutional electronic health record and insurance claims network, we conducted a retrospective cohort study of adults with secondary hyperparathyroidism who underwent parathyroidectomy with or without thymectomy from 2005 to 2023.

Aim: Through exploring Māori experiences when presenting acutely to hospital, we aimed to identify specific aspects of culturally safe care that we could incorporate into healthcare professionals' training and hospital processes.

Methods: Using Kaupapa Māori approaches, we undertook semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis to collect and analyse data from diverse groups of Māori participants.
