Children with special health care needs (CSHCN)-ie, children who are at increased risk for, or currently manage, persistent physical and mental health conditions-require more health care resources than children without special health care needs. Furthermore, CSHCN who identify as racial/ethnic minorities disproportionately encounter unmet needs, according to reports from their caregivers. However, the reasons for their unmet needs are relatively unknown.

SARS-CoV-2 NSP14 MTase activity is critical for inducing canonical NF-κB activation.

Upon SARS-CoV-2 infection, patients with severe forms of COVID-19 often suffer from a dysregulated immune response and hyperinflammation. Aberrant expression of cytokines and chemokines is associated with strong activation of the immunoregulatory transcription factor NF-κB, which can be directly induced by the SARS-CoV-2 protein NSP14. Here, we use NSP14 mutants and generated cells with host factor knockouts (KOs) in the NF-κB signaling pathways to characterize the molecular mechanism of NSP14-induced NF-κB activation.

The COVID-19 pandemic has catalyzed unprecedented scientific data and reagent sharing and collaboration, which enabled understanding the virology of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and vaccine development at record speed. The pandemic, however, has also raised awareness of the danger posed by the family of coronaviruses, of which 7 are known to infect humans and dozens have been identified in reservoir species, such as bats, rodents, or livestock. To facilitate understanding the commonalities and specifics of coronavirus infections and aspects of viral biology that determine their level of lethality to the human host, we have generated a collection of freely available clones encoding nearly all human coronavirus proteins known to date.

Oral complications in a paediatric graft versus host disease (GVHD) clinic: A retrospective study.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the oral health status among allogeneic transplant recipients who were seen in a multidisciplinary graft-versus-host disease paediatric clinic at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of patients who underwent allogeneic transplants and were seen in the graft-versus-host disease paediatric clinic between January 2010 and September 2021. Assessing workforce diversity is an increasing area of evolution. A comprehensive assessment of socioeconomic diversity is important in that it can help identify needs and enable planned inclusion across a range of students. Subsequently, a more comprehensive set of background indicators is needed.

Teaching Trauma Content in Higher Education: A Systematic Literature Review.

Higher education must prepare future mental health providers to work with individuals who have been exposed to trauma. This is vital to the success of students' practice, many of whom would benefit from trauma reduction strategies in their own lives. The purpose of this systematic review is to summarize the knowledge base on teaching methods that may reduce the potential that trauma content in the classroom could cause: (a) re-traumatization; (b) vicarious traumatization; or (c) secondary traumatic stress (collectively "adverse consequences") in higher education students.

We detected a highly divergent SARS-CoV-2 Alpha variant in an immunocompromised person several months after the latest detection of the Alpha variant in the Netherlands. The patient was infected for 42 weeks despite several treatment regimens and disappearance of most clinical symptoms. We identified several potential immune escape mutations in the spike protein.

Inclusion of Older Adults Who Experience Homelessness in Laboratory-Based Audiology Research: a Feasibility Study.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to recruit older adults who experience homelessness into a feasibility study on laboratory-based audiology research.

Design: Using best practices for recruiting individuals who experience homelessness into research, we aimed to recruit 25 participants over the course of six months. The protocol included hearing health history and hearing test.

Objective: The purpose was to explore preceptors, residency program directors (RPDs), and residents' beliefs and intentions in participating in multicenter pediatric resident research projects (PRRPs).

Methods: This exploratory qualitative study used the theory of planned behavior to explore beliefs, attitudes, and intentions toward participation in a multicenter PRRP. Two focus groups were formed: RPDs/preceptors and pharmacy residents.

A Pilot Evaluation of the Possible Association of Metronidazole With Neurodevelopmental Outcomes in Premature Neonates.

Objective: Metronidazole is recommended as a first-line treatment of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in neonates. Metronidazole-associated neurotoxicity has been reported, but long-term neurodevelopmental effects in neonates have not been explored. The primary objective was to evaluate the relationship of cumulative metronidazole dose with each Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development, Third Edition (Bayley-III) composite score in neonates with NEC.

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are a potential alternative to classical antibiotics that are yet to achieve a therapeutic breakthrough for treatment of systemic infections. The antibacterial potency of pleurocidin, an AMP from Winter Flounder, is linked to its ability to cross bacterial plasma membranes and seek intracellular targets while also causing membrane damage. Here we describe modification strategies that generate pleurocidin analogues with substantially improved, broad spectrum, antibacterial properties, which are effective in murine models of bacterial lung infection.

Plant hormones coordinate responses to environmental cues with developmental programs, and are fundamental for stress resilience and agronomic yield. The core signalling pathways underlying the effects of phytohormones have been elucidated by genetic screens and hypothesis-driven approaches, and extended by interactome studies of select pathways. However, fundamental questions remain about how information from different pathways is integrated.

Safety and effectiveness in explantation and re-implantation of hypoglossal nerve stimulation devices.

Purpose: Since 2001, hypoglossal nerve stimulators have been implanted in patients with obstructive sleep apnea around the world, initially in trial situations but more recently also in regular care settings. Medium term data indicate effectiveness and tolerability of treatment. However, when assessing the safety of the procedure, the safe feasibility of explantation or reimplantation must also be considered.
