Article Synopsis
  • The study explores brain-bone crosstalk, which is the communication between the brain and bones, and how disruptions can lead to conditions like osteoporosis.
  • Researchers found that Staphylococcus aureus lipoteichoic acid activates specific receptors in the brain, which affects the production of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and influences bone health.
  • PGE2 enhances the secretion of growth hormone, which helps counteract age-related bone loss, highlighting the importance of understanding these interactions for bone disease management.

Background: Adipogenic differentiation stands as a crucial pathway in the range of differentiation options for mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), carrying significant importance in the fields of regenerative medicine and the treatment of conditions such as obesity and osteoporosis. However, the exact mechanisms that control the adipogenic differentiation of MSCs are not yet fully understood.

Materials And Methods: We procured datasets, namely GSE36923, GSE80614, GSE107789, and GSE113253, from the Gene Expression Omnibus database.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examines the effects of soybean fermentation broth with saponin (SFBS) on male mice consuming either a high-fat-fructose diet or a normal diet, highlighting SFBS's potential to reduce weight gain, hyperlipidemia, and hyperglycemia.
  • - SFBS supplementation led to a shift in gut microbiota, decreasing harmful pathogens and promoting beneficial probiotics, indicating a positive reprogramming of the gut environment.
  • - The research suggests that SFBS may help improve metabolic disorders linked to unhealthy diets and could serve as a nutritional supplement for various populations.

Antenatal corticosteroid therapy (ACT) has been shown to reduce morbidity and mortality rates in preterm delivery, but the fetus is more likely to face the risk of low bone mineralization and low fetal linear growth. However, the mechanism of ACT inducing low bone mineralization remains largely unknown. Pre-osteoclasts, which play an important role in angiogenesis and osteogenesis, are specifically regulating type H vessels (CD31Emcn) and vessel formation by secreting platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB).

Background: Bone marrow adipocyte (BMA), closely associated with bone degeneration, shares common progenitors with osteoblastic lineage. However, the intrinsic mechanism of cells fate commitment between BMA and osteogenic lineage remains unclear.

Methods: Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) dataset GSE107789 publicly available was downloaded and analyzed.

Objective: This study was performed to compare the oncologic and functional outcomes in patients with benign submandibular gland (SMG) tumours after harmonic scalpel-assisted minimally extracapsular dissection (HS-MECD) or total gland excision (TGE).

Methods: In total, 133 consecutive patients who were preoperatively diagnosed with benign SMG tumours (pleomorphic adenoma, Warthin’s tumour, basal cell adenoma, or lymphoepithelial cyst) from 2013 to 2016 were included in this two-centre retrospective study. Sixty-four patients underwent HS-MECD and 69 patients underwent TGE.

Ameloblastoma is the most common odontogenic tumor of epithelial origin. These tumors are benign in nature but have a high rate of recurrence and possible malignant development when treated inadequately. However, recurrent ameloblastomas in bone grafts are rare.

Objective: To investigate the factors influencing the quality of life (QOL) of children with phenylketonuria (PKU) in Anhui Province, China.

Methods: A total of 104 PKU children who were diagnosed and treated in three major maternal and child health hospitals in Anhui Province were enrolled as study subjects. The PedsQL™ 4.

In this study, we assessed the anti-asthmatic effects of heat-inactivated Lactobacillus kefiranofaciens M1 (HI-M1) and its fermented milk using different feeding procedures and at various dosage levels. The possible mechanisms whereby HI-M1 has anti-allergic asthmatic effects were also evaluated. Ovalbumin (OVA)-allergic asthma mice that have been orally administrated the HI-M1 samples showed strong inhibition of production of T helper cell (Th) 2 cytokines, pro-inflammatory cytokines, and Th17 cytokines in splenocytes and bronchoalveolar fluid compared to control mice.

We assayed the effects of velvet antler (VA) of Formosan sambar deer (Cervus unicolor swinhoei) and its extracts on the anti-infective activity against pathogenic Staphylococcus aureus in vitro and in vivo in this study. In vitro data indicated that the VA extracts stimulated the proliferation of resting splenocytes and macrophages in a dose-dependent manner up to the highest concentration used (150 μg mL(-1)). The production of proinflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, IL-12) by lipoteichoic acid was significantly suppressed after being cocultured with the VA extracts in a dose-dependent manner.

This study demonstrated that oral feeding of heat-inactivated Lactobacillus (L b.) kefiranofaciens M1 from kefir grains effectively inhibited immunoglobulin (Ig) E production in response to ovalbumin (OVA) in vivo. The pattern of cytokine production by splenocyte cells revealed that the levels of cytokines produced by T helper (Th) 1 cells increased, and those of cytokines produced by Th2 cells decreased in the heat-inactivated M1 feeding group.
