Background/objectives: Quantification of diamine oxidase (DAO) concentrations in serum has been proposed as an adjunctive diagnostic modality for the evaluation of histamine intolerance (HIT). Limited empirical data exist concerning the influence of dietary patterns on DAO levels.
Subjects/methods: In the context of a prospective study employing a crossover design, 18 individuals diagnosed with HIT were randomized to initiate either a low histamine diet (LHD) or a conventional mixed diet (MXD).
The immune system plays a vital role in controlling liver fibrosis and enhancing the pathogenesis of liver inflammation. Monosodium glutamate is a common flavor-enhancement food additive. This study evaluated the immunomodulatory and hepato-curative effects of the Immuno-Kachiks polyherbal formulation against monosodium glutamate-induced immune suppression and hepatic damage in rats.

Analysis of the enzyme diamine oxidase (DAO) is sometimes used as an additional tool for diagnosis. This study aimed to describe the distribution of DAO in a large representative cohort of adults and to determine the association between DAO activity and possible associated factors.

Since Uganda has no pharmacopeia, safety, efficacy, and plant processing information are not readily available. We documented the plant materials used to manufacture products in Uganda and established evidence of their safety and efficacy and availability of monographs.

This study synthesized evidence on antiviral medicinal plants in Africa which could potentially be further studied for viral infections including Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) treatment. PUBMED, CINAHIL, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Google databases were searched through keywords; antiviral, plant, herb, and Africa were combined using "AND" and "OR".

It is of great interest to review available studies from a country or a region to resort to similarities/discrepancies and data quality. Here, we examined data related to ethnopharmacology and bioactivity of antidiabetic plants used in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

With the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 coinfections, patients with TB are predisposed to being more heavily weighed down by COVID-19 disease and its opportunistic coinfections. The severity of the disease coupled with drug resistance on the currently used drugs warrants for the search for alternative remedies from synthetic agents, semisynthetics and natural products that include plants.

(Aristolochiaceae)to manage malaria in South Sudan traditionally. However, the use and acquired experiences are notwell documented.

After L-DED, the material was hot formed at two different temperatures (930 °C and 1070 °C) and subsequently heat-treated for stress relief annealing. Tensile tests were performed on small sub-samples, taking into account different sample orientations with respect to the L-DED build direction and resulting in very good tensile strengths and ductility properties, similar or superior to the forged material.

Especially with the current implementation of additive manufacturing in the production of TiAl, turbine blades for both hybrid manufacturing and repair new opportunities are enabled. One main issue is the compatibility of the two or more material types involved, which either differ regarding composition or microstructure or both.

The approach enables the digital control of the processing parameters and thus the resulting alloy's microstructure, for example, by using high cooling rates and cyclic re-heating. We recently showed that this cyclic re-heating, the so-called intrinsic heat treatment, can trigger nickel-aluminium precipitation in an iron-nickel-aluminium alloy in situ during laser additive manufacturing.

Although it is well established that dense parts can be produced by AM, the influence of the AM process on the microstructure-in particular the content of retained and reversed austenite as well as the nanostructure, especially the precipitate density and chemistry, are not yet explored. Here, we study these features using microhardness measurements, Optical Microscopy, Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), and Atom Probe Tomography (APT) in the as-produced state and during ageing heat treatment.

Objective: The use of laparoscopic myomectomy as a surgical treatment for uterine leiomyoma is associated with low intraoperative morbidity and short hospitalization. Limited data about the long-term outcome of this surgical approach are available. The aims of this study were to estimate the risk of uterine fibroid recurrence after laparoscopic myomectomy and to identify factors contributing to the rate of fibroid relapse.

Methods: In this single-center retrospective observational study, data were analyzed from 59 women aged 23-42 years with the desire to have children and who underwent LM for symptomatic uterine leiomyoma between January 2001 and December 2006 and subsequently delivered at our hospital.
Results: During a mean follow-up period of 73.
Background: The Kagera region of north western Tanzania has a rich culture of traditional medicine use and practice. Traditional medicines are the mainstay of healthcare in this region and are known to support the management of many illnesses such as malaria, bacterial infections, epilepsy, gynecological problems and others. However, most of the plants being used have either not been documented or evaluated for safety and efficacy or both.

Laparoscopic myomectomy (LM) for patients in the peri- and post-menopause as a surgical alternative to hysterectomy is widely considered to be non-standard treatment. The aim of this study was to analyze safety and outcome of LM beyond the reproductive period.

Among the 50 extracts tested, 32 extracts (64%) showed very low toxicity with LC50 values above 100 microg/ml. Among these 12 (24%) which had LC50 >500 microg/ml can be categorized as being practically non-toxic.
