Background: Doxorubicin (DOX) is a highly effective broad-spectrum antitumor agent, but its clinical administration is limited by self-induced cardiotoxicity. Dihydromyricetin (DHM) is a flavonoid compound extracted from the Japanese raisin tree. Evidence that DHM has neovascular protective properties makes it a candidate for studying cardiotoxicity prevention strategy.

A chemical investigation on the 90% EtOH extract of the fruiting bodies of led to the isolation of three new lanostane triterpenoids, designated as 25-methoxy-11-oxo-ganoderiol D (), 3-oxo-25-methoxy-24,26-dihydroxy-lanosta-7,9(11)-diene (), and 3-acetyloxy-lucidone H (). Structural elucidation of all the compounds were performed by spectral methods such as 1 D and 2 D (HH COSY, HMQC, and HMBC) NMR spectroscopy. All the triterpenoids were evaluated for their antimicrobial activities against six pathogenic microorganisms.

In addition, the isolated limonoids were tested for antimicrobial potentials against 5 pathogenic microorganisms. Consequently, compounds exhibited antimicrobial activity against the tested Gram negative bacteria at the minimum inhibitory concentration values less than 40 μg/ml.

The structures of the isolated compounds were established based on 1D and 2D (HH COSY, HMQC, and HMBC) NMR spectroscopy, in addition to high resolution mass spectrometry. The isolated compounds were tested in vitro for cytotoxic activity against seven tumor cell lines and antibacterial activities against two Gram-positive bacteria and five Gram-negative bacteria.
