Colitis-associated colorectal cancer (CAC) is fatal and can develop spontaneously or as a complication of inflammatory bowel diseases. Although co-administration of azoxymethane/dextran sulfate sodium (AOM/DSS) is a classic method for CAC modeling, its limitations need to be addressed. Accordingly, we aimed to optimize the AOM/DSS model to study CAC extensively and further investigate its pathogenic mechanisms relative to microbiota and metabolism.

  • Mineral precipitation from fluid mixing poses challenges in various fields such as carbon mineralization and geothermal energy, with fluid flow dynamics still not fully understood.
  • Our research combines microfluidic experiments and simulations, revealing that fluid inertia significantly influences mineral precipitation and clogging at flow intersections, with different behaviors observed at varying Reynolds numbers.
  • Uneven injection rates lead to unexpected flow bifurcations that enhance precipitation in downstream channels, and our findings extend to rough channel networks, highlighting the broader implications for optimizing mineral precipitation processes.

Purpose: Many studies have shown that the imbalance of the intestinal flora and metabolite can lead to the development of ulcerative colitis (UC), but their role in recurrent-UC is still unclear. We studied the intestinal flora and metabolites associated with recurrent-UC to elucidate the mechanism and biomarkers of recurrent-UC.

Methods: Ulcerative colitis (UC) models in active, remission, and recurrence stages were established, and the abundance of intestinal flora was determined by 16 S rRNA sequencing.

The diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is chronic kidney disease caused by diabetes and one of the most common comorbidities. It is often more difficult to treat end-stage renal disease once it develops because of its complex metabolic disorders, so early prevention and treatment are important. However, currently available DKD therapies are not ideal, and novel therapeutic strategies are urgently needed.

This study investigated the measurement invariance of school and teacher Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) readiness among 57 countries that participated in the (PISA) 2018 assessment. School and teacher ICT readiness scale is 11-item scale with two subfactors: school ICT readiness and teacher ICT readiness subscales (Bozkus, (3), 1560-1579, 2021). With the novel alignment optimization method, we revealed that the school ICT readiness subscale was invariant for unbiased country comparisons but overall noninvariance was identified for the teacher ICT readiness subscale.

Article Synopsis
  • The stem bark of Magnolia officinalis is used in traditional Chinese medicine for treating abdominal issues like dyspepsia, and its pharmacokinetic properties were studied in rats.
  • The study found that five active compounds, including two lignans (honokiol and magnolol) and three glycosides, were absorbed and eliminated quickly, but their effective residence time decreased in rats with functional dyspepsia.
  • Metabolic profiling revealed that honokiol and magnolol predominantly undergo sulfation and glucuronidation, with significant interactions from coexisting compounds affecting their absorption and distribution in the body.
